New RNC ad: Being a friend to Hispanics means supporting amnesty

posted at 7:54 pm on August 22, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

And so, after two years of pounding Geraldo Rivera for reducing a complex issue to its lowest, crudest, most demagogic common denominator, we find that our own party leadership agrees with him. Do you have Hispanic friends? No you don’t, not if you’re one of the 69 percent who prioritizes border enforcement over, ahem, “comprehensive immigration reform.” The boss has an English translation but I’d like confirmation from our Spanish-speaking readers, as I simply can’t believe the RNC would stoop to this. Is this an accurate rendering of the beginning?

How do you know someone is a friend?

You know because they stand up and defend you when it is hard.

When Hispanics needed a friend in Congress during the immigration debate… Who stood up? Who spoke out?

John McCain.

Note: This isn’t Michelle’s translation, it’s the version that the RNC’s sending around, so it expresses their intent even if the Spanish version doesn’t precisely match. Exit question: What’s the difference between the insinuation here and the insinuation … here?

My mistake, I thought you were talking about the illegals.

carbon_footprint on August 22, 2008 at 8:32 PM

And that is precisely my point. Why the hell doesn’t McCain address Hispanic voters in English, instead of pandering to the larger Hispanic community which includes so many illegals, and non-English speakers. That’s what annoys me, and what others have said. It pre-supposes that American citizens of Hispanic backgrounds favor illegal immigration, favor not learning English, etc.

JiangxiDad on August 22, 2008 at 8:36 PM

True, especially when I keep hearing that legal Mexican immigrants do not care too much for the illegal Mexican immigrants and the pass that they seem to be getting.

carbon_footprint on August 22, 2008 at 8:39 PM

I married a Venezuelan and I support border enforcement. Try calling me racist against Latinos.

Here’s the main thing I hate about McCain. This is why I realy don’t want to vote for him but if it means keeping the game show host out of the office, then I’ll do it.

Iran’s been on the verge of a nuke for a couple of years and we’ve done d*ck about it; I’m not happy with our current President’s policy on Iran. Obama is going to suck on pretty much everything but I don’t trust McCain to be any tougher than Bush has been on Iran, which is to say not at all. So let’s not get lathered about what McCain might do. You think McCain is going to roll into Georgia with tanks, and chicks and firetrucks? Somehow I doubt it. Both parties have lost their will for confrontation. No, I’m not saying I want Obama, but let’s not fantasize about McCain as some modern day General Patton.

Even 55% of the Mexicans residing in the Southwest Territories during the negotiations of THE TREATY in 1848, chose to be Americans and NOT Mexicans…figure it out.

carbon_footprint on August 22, 2008 at 8:27 PM

that’s not true. This is a pander to Mexicans not all “hispanics”.

Puerto Ricans are well assimilated and could care less about amnesty as an issue and they vote overwhelmingly democrat since they’ve thrown their lot in with blacks

Cubans are well assimilated are the most affluent group of hispanics and also could care less about amnesty as an issue and they vote overwhelmingly Republican. They want the borders closed

Other hispanics like the South Americans, my family is Colombian, assimilate and also could care less about amnesty. They overwhelmingly want the borders closed too.

David J. Stoddard, 27 year veteran of the Border Patrol said -

“Illegal aliens generally do NOT want U.S. citizenship. Americans are very vain thinking that everybody in the world wants to be a U.S. citizen. Mexicans want to remain citizens of their home country while obtaining the benefits offered by the United States such as employment, medical care, in-state tuition, government subsidized housing and free education for their offspring. Their main attraction is employment and their loyalty usually remains at home. They want benefits earned and subsidized by middle class Americans. What illegal aliens want are benefits of American residence without paying the price.

Mexico is NOT a friend of the United States. Since 1848 Mexicans have resented the United States. During World War I, Mexico allowed German spies to operate freely in Mexico to spy on the U.S.. During World War II, Mexico allowed the Axis powers to spy on the U.S. from Mexico. During the Cold War Mexico allowed spies hostile to the U.S. to operate freely. The attack on the Twin Towers in 2001 was cheered and applauded all across Mexico. Today, Mexican school children are taught that the U.S. stole California, Arizona, new Mexico and Texas. If you don’t believe it, check out some Mexican textbooks written for their schoolchildren.”

Bush has sucked on Russia. McCain’s been warning about it for a while now. Who do you think is more likely to deter Russia from striking elsewhere: McCain or Obama? Bush was too wishy-washy with his whole “I looked into Putin’s eyes” attitude.

As for Iran, it’s been pursuing nukes for years. We’re talking about it being close soon.

What I have done in the past was to counter the people who deliberately lied about McCain, and claim that he is a democrat, or that he is exactly like Obama. Both of which are false. McCain never tried to pass him off as conservative as Thompson, or the guy who sat on the loveseat next to Nancy Pelosi to tell us all how real global warming is.

Please do me the courtesy of waiting for me to say something and either agree or disagree with my opinion or statement of fact before you smear me with more things I never said. Do you think you can do that?

MB4 on August 22, 2008 at 8:47 PM

That’s very true. In the 1986 amnesty 2 million illegals were eligible to legalize and only 200,000 did.

why?

for one thing, because they can keep more of the money they earn instead of having to fork it over to the government.

(i worked with him at a machine shop) this guy was really cool he was a workout fanatic and ate like a horse! he was ALWAYS EATING AND HUNGRY! LOL! BUT he was in great shape because we both lifted weights etc.. anyhow, we went to my parents house and my mom had enchiladas on the stove my parents we sleeping i asked him if he wanted some he was like, “SURE I’M STARVED!” got him a plate loaded it up warmed it up in the micro handed it to him then he took a bite of it then all of a sudden i remembered that he was Muslim!

i yelled “spit it out! now, it has pork in it!”

OMG!!! you should have seen his face!!!! LMAO!!!! he was like what??? you said it’s deer meat! then i said.. well.. yes.. but.. it has pork fat mixed into it.. oh man he was happy that he didn’t swallow it.. >:D

then i showed him a tube of deer meat what i was talking about.. you see deer meat is very dry or to get the fat you either need pork fat or beef fat.. the next day i asked my dad what kind of fat was in the meat and it was beef fat…

sheesh.. better to be safe than sorry.. :}

And he’s going to be relying on the Democrats in the house to help him pass it, along with the Republicans who don’t want to abandon their President. And keep in mind, amnesty isn’t Backdoor John’s only bad issue that he can hose us with: remember, he’s another global warming nutjob..and I’ll bet you he’ll drop drilling as soon as he can. Man, I didn’t think this would hit the fan until after he was sworn in. Oh well. At least we have the Clinton shenanigans at the DNC convention to look forward to.

austinnelly on August 22, 2008 at 8:31 PM

The anti Wise_man! I agree completely that McCain thinks he can abandon the GOP and run on his personality (and positions) to gather enough moderate Democrats that he can literally give social conservatives the middle finger he’s been giving them ideologically since 2000 when they derailed his liberal agenda. I’m not fooled about what we get with McCain unlike many of those willing to ignore the real McCain.

Both McCain and Obama will attempt to bring amnesty, so I’d rather fight McCain on it and get the national security aspects at the same time.

amerpundit on August 22, 2008 at 8:33 PM

You make a good point and I’d probably agree with you if it were just amnesty. Unfortunately McCain has a habit of joining with Democrats on virtually every issue but national security. What’s the point of keeping Iraq safe from Iran if we elect a liberal who destroys the nation with his “bipartisan” agenda (which means do whatever Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi want)?

Some of McCain’s positions the nose holders refuse to understand about McCain’s legacy:

1. No questions asked amnesty for illegals and draining the social security system as McCain’s new citizens are allowed to retroactively claim social security benefits.

2. Business-crushing corporate taxes for global warming and caps on corporate profits (particularly in the oil industry but that would just be the start). The second and third order effects of McCainomics will be even worse.

3. Gay marriage in all 50 states. McCain’s refusal to defend the covenant of marriage says all that needs to be said.

4. No defense of life by seeking to challenge Roe v. Wade as a matter for the states and the further erosion of protecting life by expanding federal funding of embryonic stem cell lines.

5. Finally, the further rescinding of Constitutional rights as McCain joins with Democrats to pass the Fairness Doctrine which is nothing more than phase II of the rights McCain took away in the name of campaign finance reform.

The United States performed no better (than “old Europe”). Scorned for his aggressive behavior in the past, President Bush spent the first crucial days of the Georgia crisis as a bewildered observer reluctant to recognize the gravity of the problem. Putin went to war and the American president went to a basketball game–reinforcing the Kremlin’s conviction that it could do as it pleased and get away with it. (Bush’s gravest flaw is that he’s a dreadful judge of character, stubbornly trusting undeserving men, from Iraqi schemer Ahmed Chalabi, through the incompetent Alberto Gonzales, to Vladimir Putin, who played Bush for a fool.)

The American president is furious now, but it’s too late. High noon came and went, and the much-derided cowboy-president wasn’t there when he was needed.

Illegal immigrants are returning home to Mexico in numbers not seen for decades — and the Mexican government may have to deal with a crush on its social services and lower wages once the immigrants arrive.

I know it’s wrong in saying that there’ll be a crush on the Mexican government’s social services, because we all know that illegals are a net positive in that regard.

The McCainiacs are just like the Obamanites: They don’t like what people say about thier guy; they can’t really defend him through the application of logic and common sense, so they seek to censor them…. Or use the ‘race card’ when discussion of illegal immigration isn’t going the way they want it.

Or accuse them of being Democrat operatives, when it is obvious to everyone with half a brain that they are hard core conservatives.

It is very fitting that they use the same tactics that the left uses: When there is little of value to the guy they are shilling for, all they can do is either censor them, demonize them, or use ‘the big lie’ tactics.

But McCain refused to rule out the idea of raids on illegal immigrants, saying, “The United States has to have secure borders sir, and that’s necessary, even if you disagree.”

He’s targeting Obama with the add………. He stood before LaRaza and told them he was still going to secure the borders, while Obama pandered and called our Federal Agents “terrorists”.

But he has never supported amnesty.
Conservatives would be more credible if we used words accurately.

jgapinoy on August 22, 2008 at 7:58 PM

I agree wholeheartedly. Amnesty means no fine, no jail time.
Since McCain proposes a $3000 fine, his plan is not amnesty.

But amnesty doesn’t include KEEPING THE STOLEN GOODS!

McCain is able to claim that his bill (defeated 3 times in 2 years) wasn’t amnesty because he makes illegal aliens pay a fine of $3000 or so. No jail time, but a really stiff fine for attaining permanent residency and a pathway to American citizenship via the Z visa.

I wonder what legal immigrants pay their lawyers? More than $3000? I wonder what illegal invaders pay coyotes? More than $3000? $3000 sounds like a good deal to me!!

McCain’s plan REWARDS illegal aliens with the ill-gotten goods they came here to steal in the first place – residency in our country.

Using McCain’s twisted logic, he would award convicted burglars with the stolen jewels – as long as they pay a $3000 fine. Are you advocating McCain’s logic for all crimes? Watch crime (or illegal entry) skyrocket.

McCain lost me forever with his cynical “one business day” waiting period for a Z visa in the 2007 version of his bill.
Compared to the 2006 version’s 90 days, the one business day was a slap in the face to all law-abiding American citizens and patient legal immigrants.

Attrition through enforcement is working just fine so far in several states – we just need it at the national level – the SAVE Act!

You know, weak_man, it’s funny. You’re the only person on this site that calls me a troll. You, meanwhile, are legendary for your cheerleading skills.
misterpeasea on August 22, 2008 at 9:17 PM

That’s because you constantly troll me with something that I have never said for weeks, or something around more than a month. And I never did this to you as you are now doing to me. You are acting like a troll, and I am telling you this is your behavior. And you do this to me, repeatedly.

I used to think that the whole “repeatedly” thing was what I was allegedly doing. But now, it’s happening … but I am not doing this. I was given a warning, and I stopped. And you began doing this, repeatedly, and you haven’t stopped. You’ve done this, repeatedly. So in you childish and internet trolling behavior, you are what you do. You are a troll when you do this, repeatedly. Sorry if you don’t like it when I point out your trolling behavior.

Should I vote for Obama? Is that what you want me to do? If Obama wins, not McCain is Obama going to secure our borders, and be a hostile president to illegal immigration? Is obama going to be in favor, or against sanctuary cities, such as the sanxtuary city that he began his political career as a community organizer.

Are you going to be one of those “he’s not my president” types

Nope, never have, even when that swine, Komrade Klinton, was in power. What I am saying is I am through with your republican party and their lame candidate. I identify as a conservative. The Republican Party has abandoned conservative values so, in my view, I am no longer obliged to support them or their open border nominee. It matters not to me who wins this election, either way, as Michelle says, “We’re Screwed 08″.

Exactly. Some here are going to think that the primaries are still ongoing, even after election day.

I won’t stay long, because all these people seem to want to do is do to me, what they think I am doing to them, despite any evidence to that claim of theirs. If they want to ask an actual question, and not tell me what I think or what position I have on this subject, then I’d like to answer them. But if all they want to do is this, then they can enjoy ‘Ernest Borgnine’ing eachother all night for all I care.

Illegal Immigration is a Crime
Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, “Improper Entry by Alien,” any citizen of any country other than the United States who:
• Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or
• Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
• Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact;
has committed a federal crime.

Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense.

OOOPS! Not there either…

DfDeportation on August 22, 2008 at 9:31 PM

Heh. I know a TON of first and second generation Mexican and Columbian immigrants from when I lived back in Charlotte that were visibly upset about the fact that they waited in line to come in legally (and in some cases still have friends and family waiting in line to come in legally) and paid their dues while these people (illegals) just come in and act like they owned the place. In some cases, Hispanics are the MOST angry about illegal immigration. Many would like to see the border secured while allowing more legal immigrants thorough. The backlog to get in is ridiculous. But the reality is, if you’re listening to Spanish language radio, you’re probably pro-amnesty. And while Obama is a little to left of McCain on this issue, McCain can use the fact that his name has been attached to the pro-amnesty movement to his advantage. If we’re stuck with McShamnesty as our nominee, might as well try to find the silver lining. But the real baffling question is…if McCain so pro-amnesty, why is he doing worse than Bush (who is also pro-amnesty, but holds a much lower profile with it) did in this demo?

malan89 on August 22, 2008 at 9:31 PM

DfDeportation on August 22, 2008 at 9:27 PM

So your issue is really that politicians are giving money to these people and not the people themselves?

It’d be easier to press your politician to vote against giving away tax dollars to them. If that’s your issue.

Government incentives are one of the reasons they come here illegally – free medical care, cheap housing and jobs. Take away the incentive and the problem is solved. Seems like that’s the smarter strategy to me.

If you agree, vote that way. I don’t see any value in trying to lobby to send 12 million people home – when there is no political will to do so.

“Wiseman” isn’t my nickname. It’s my last name. Is your nickname your last name in real life? No? I see. If you have more complaints about the login name I choose for myself, please keep them to yourself. Thanks.

Lieberman was kicked out of the democrat party. But he caucuses with them. He does not have a “D” next to his name. If you don’t believe me, then go look at his official website.

McCain said that He wasn’t almost Kerry’s VP. Kerry, Kerry’s people and other democrats claim that he was. You decide to trust democrat’s version of events. It’s your decision to believe them. I can’t help it if thats your decision. You keep bringing it up. Implying that this claim of Kerry’s is true. McCain said that it is false. If you continue, knowing that it has been disavowed, then you are helping the democrats version of events to stay in the minds of others here. I don’t want my actions to benefit the democrats, but you seem to enjoy doing this a lot. Again, I can’t help you to see that what you are doing, on their behalf on a conservative site. If you choose to make the democrats happy as you do, then you have to accept your actions.
