New Obama ad: Hey, McCain’s old
posted at 3:24 pm on August 22, 2008 by Allahpundit
Yes, ostensibly it’s another shot at McCain for owning two more homes than John Kerry does, but you don’t need your Josh Marshall Secret Subtext Decoder Ring to figure out what forgetfulness plus the need for motorized transport around the golf course means. I’m honestly curious to see what this line of attack does for Obama in the polls; I think it’s doomed to fail, thanks partly to Maverick’s POW suit of armor and partly to the Dems’ exposure from having nominated a near-billionaire last time (assuming the RNC ever gets around to reminding the public of that), but we’ll see. Hopefully we’ll get some weekend polls about it, otherwise the numbers will be distorted by the convention. Speaking of which, McCain’s team claims it expects a 15-point bounce for Obama. I’m thinking more like eight.
Exit question: What’s the conservative counterpart to liberals’ perennial attacks on the GOP nominee as being “out of touch”? Attacks on lefty patriotism, I guess?

I’ll take old and wise over young and arrogant any day.
Obama is an arrogant, affirmative-action, activist A**!

RNC always rolls out “tax and spend” – too bad the RNC is more in agreement with that concept these days.

When it comes to decision-making, old beats young and stupid. Even auto insurance companies know this fact.

Is the “how many houses” argument really important to anyone? This is silly. What’s sadder is that McCain seems to be on the defensive about it.
Nice commercial though.

Um, when did McCain say everyone making less than $5M is middle class? I think those hacks in Obambi land need to clean out their ears. That commerical is WEAK! I don’t like McCain, but that ad certainly wouldn’t make me run over to the Marxist’s tent.

How are things going for me?
A hell of a lot better than they’ll be going if an ignorant, inexperienced, economically-illiterate Marxist named Barry Obama gets elected President and starts taxing the hell out of everybody so that he can vastly increase the size of our already bloated and inefficient federal government, so that he can institute his “social justice” welfare and affirmative action/racial preference programs.

McCain said anyone making over $5 million is rich – or something like that.
Democrats only see 3 types of people. Poor, middle class and rich. So if $5 million+ is rich, less than that must be middle class. It’s an easy transfer for them to make. They’ve been doing it for decades.

I would say: if our conservative/GOP is “out of touch” than so is more than 1/2 the country. If being “out of touch” means not sneering at America, hating the troops and sipping a latte in a limousine, then count me “out of touch”.

lorien 1973 is right. At the Saddleback forum, Rick Warren asked the candidates for their definition of “rich” — the context of the question was raising taxes on the “rich.”
Obama said people making more than $250k are rich. McCain said he doesn’t want to punish the rich, because he wants everybody to be rich. Then he made the joke about people making an annual income of $5 million being rich.

Repeating myself here, but I’d like to see how long Osama Obama could have put up with the treatment McCain endured for five years in Vietnam.

Well………. could be better.
If it wasn’t for politicians, like Democrats, that caused the financial collapse of the housing market by forcing banks to lend money to people who couldn’t pay for them in the first place, like illegal aliens, and then used my tax dollars to bail out those banks…….
Or politicians, like Democrats, that have put restrictions on our country’s efforts to become energy independent by harvesting our own oil, coal, and shale supplies of energy, but instead burning our food in an uneconomical and inefficient way, raising the prices of EVERYTHING across the board enough to make you say “Ouch”………
Or politicians, like Democrats, that support Environmental Extremist and push the “Climate Change” hoax propaganda on us and our children, while imposing new fees, regulations, and taxes to support their socialist political agendas…..
Or politicians, like Democrats, who want to take more and more of my freedom away, and destroy this county by turning it into a Marxist socialist state…..
……… other than that, I’m doing all right.

It is embarrassing that our country has become so intellectually inept that a naive puppet like Obama could seriously be considered for the presidency. It exposes a shallowness that can be easily be exploited by propaganda and innuendo that is anti-American and erodes the basic values that our country was founded on.

The only part of McCain’s age that has potential to scare the me is;
1) His choice for VP (Not just as a possible successor, but Pelosi’s only 2 heartbeats away from POTUS too, don’t forget)
2) Dementia/Parkinson’s/Alzheimer’s/Stroke(s) etc (see #1)
As for his POW “suit of armor”… that is non-existent as far as I am concerned.

Maybe McCain should remind Obama that the unemployment rate is about the same now as it was under the middle of the Clinton administration? I don’t remember anyone saying the entire economy was broken then. I find it hard to take a candidate seriously when they’re constantly tuned in to the Doom and Gloom Channel. The economy isn’t robust and on the gravy train, but it’s not like we’re headed for a Great Depression, either.
Historically speaking, things are quite alright in the US economy. Perhaps only McCain is old enough to realize that.

Why is no one focusing on the lies/distortions about McCain’s “$5 million” comment. The funny part is, when he made the joke at Saddleback, he predicted it would be used this way. But this particular ad took it to another level… Setting aside the fact that they’re being dishonest in other ads for saying that he really believes “rich” is defined as having $5 million… this ad says that McCain classifies all people making less than $5 million as “middle class”. This is a flat out lie.
