Maybe no one wanted the gig?

This entire exercise in announcing a running mate for Barack Obama has provided one puzzlement after another. The campaign at first said that they would announce Obama’s selection in the week before the convention — a wise choice, given Obama’s steep drop in the polling and the limited amount of time between the Democratic convention and that of the GOP the following week. Obama had an opportunity to demonstrate his gravitas and wisdom with the most important decision he has to make in this race, and enjoy a media blackout of McCain’s suddenly powerful campaign.
Their first fumble came when Team Obama decided to gimmick the announcement by texting it to the world. As a campaign strategy, it resembled late-night advertising for dating services. It hardly lent any dignity to the Obama campaign, and made this critical decision into a cheap marketing strategy.
But even that looks wise next to the strangely delayed rollout — now at least day later than Team Obama led people to believe. Instead of gaining extra media attention, they have wound up burying the story on the weekend. The VP announcement will gain Obama little earned media, and most people will have other activities keeping them busy rather than paying much attention to the move. That makes perfect sense as a strategy — if Obama’s embarrassed about his pick.
In fact, one has to wonder whether Obama really had made up his mind, or whether his first or even second choice didn’t turn him down. That would explain the delays in the announcement, and the apparent disorganization of Team Obama in handling an event that should have underscored the seriousness of their candidate. After all, they set the expectation that the running mate announcement would come this week, and they missed their own target.
Not only has Obama turned this into a game show, he has also now built up expectations to the point where almost any selection would be a letdown. The two rumored picks, Joe Biden and Evan Bayh, do not scream excitement. They don’t have the kind of star status that would justify this kind of NFL Draft Day engineering. Only Hillary Clinton or Al Gore might approach that kind of celebrity. Hillary would be better announced at the convention than on a Saturday afternoon, and Gore has already done the VP gig for eight years.
Obama has made a mess out of this announcement, and blown a natural opportunity to demonstrate his leadership. He also has given John McCain a wide opening to handle his own running-mate announcement in a manner which will demonstrate the Gravitas Gap which has widened considerably this month between the two candidates.

I agree.
I think they are trying to keep Obama’s image so intact they are losing sight of the campaign. They missed a ton of media hype for the convention. If Obama announced it a week ago, he could have done a week long tour with his VP, right up to the convention. Stupid.
Oh well, I’m hoping he crashes and burns. Maybe there will be a balloon malfunction or Obama’s teleprompter cuts off half way through his “historic” speech.

It’s all about hype, with a second motive of keeping McCain from raining on his VP announcement parade. The weekend is also going to make any McCain pounce not get coverage.

Obama has unwittingly revealed his followers to be what they really are.
Think of Heaven’s Gate cult members looking up into the ether waiting for an electronic signal from the mother ship. That’s what Obama has done to his followers this week. Clutching their Blackberries and iPhones as if salvation itself were imminent. Cursing the void!
It’s gotta be so humiliating to be an Obama follower right now.

One would think the The One being such a politically savvy voice of the new, and not a shill for old and tired, would have had dozens and dozens of potential VP hopefuls flocking to Him, willingly placing themselves at the beck and call of The One…you, know, Hope and Change.
The past week or so with this public vetting, marking off the list and such…if it is indeed Biden, do you suppose that Biden was the last possible VP candidate on the list? The only one who didn’t say “No.”

Since The One has 300 foreign policy advisers, I am shocked that he did not request a change in the Constitution so he could have 2 Veeps.

Which she could, but it won’t happen. The Democrats would lose their “Unity” meme. I’m even backing off from the Obama/Hillary possibility as Obama is becoming a huge liability.
I’ve been saying for over a month now that Dems with a brain don’t want to run with the guy. He’s too far left and has amassed too much baggage in a very short time. They don’t want to be associated with his “friends” in any way, shape, or form.

I don’t think Hillary has given up hopes of being the nominee. The libtard talking heads can say what they want on television, each week that goes by, Obama looks weaker and weaker. The bloom is off the rose. Unless McCain blows it, Barry has no chance to win. Once again, the Dems have bought a pig in a poke. But I bet right now there are some angry folks in libland who are plotting Hillary’s resurrection.

Hmmm . . . . If you’re vetting candidates for the VP spot on the ticket, wouldn’t your first question be: In the event this position is offered to you, are you willing to accept it? After all, what’s the point of asking a candidate any other questions if the answer to that question is “no”?

By the way, I’m not predicting Hillary’s rise. I’m predicting that Hillary is still trying like hell to to come up with a way to emerge from the convention as the nominee. As for me, I could care less who their nominee is. My only hope is for maximum convention chaos.

She’s probably more interested in getting her $20+ million in campaign debit paid off- most of which is out of her own pocket. I imagine that Hillary’s level of support will be proportional to the amount of debt he helps pay off.

Why would anyone want to be on a sinking ship?
There must be other people Obama wanted but was turned down. There are too many negatives attached to Obama especially for democrat politicians to get attached to during hotly contested seats.
This is supposed to be a democrat year, but they put that in the crapper by electing a know-nothing candidate and objecting to drilling.
Also, this notion that most Americans hate the president is so false as Rush Limbaugh said. I believe a majority of Americans like President Bush and are content with their lives. The constant negatives thrown at Bush by the libs and MSM are wearing thin.

Breaking: Weekly Standard says Democratic source claims Biden as VP choice of Obama.
carbon_footprint on August 22, 2008 at 10:50 PM
As Ed points out, if the whole thing just comes down the underwhelming fellow speech-copyist from Delaware, what was the point of this overextended build-up? Just to collect more phone numbers? Demeaning. There are a lot of Democrats expressing their boredom and impatience, and the text message plan is also being undermined by claims of certainty that it is Biden, alongside exclusions of Bayh and Kaine. So either the news has leaked, and it’s boring, or people are lying, and a surprise pick is being rolled out in a way that complicates his or her introduction.
And by now, if it’s not Biden, there will be a lot of Democratic operatives explaining why they lied – and having to expose and/or make up embarrassing stories. If it isn’t Biden, people will wonder what the point was of keeping the political junkies of the world on the edges of the seats all day and over night. Even if it’s a surprise pick, it already feels unseemly.
And the Clintonites, already so schooled in hoping against hope, are not being won over by all this. Numerous hints and prognostications were being circulated that got their attention, and the “not even on the short list” story is a slap in the face – no doubt about it.
Remember the big Hillary endorses Barack speech? It was impossible to ignore the sense that she was chewing tinfoil. The Dem Convention is set up to be at a minimum two days of tinfoil-chewing on the part of fake-happy Clintonites. No one will believe they mean the nice things they say. Every blink and grin will be micro-examined for secret signals.
Even all of this has been the most massive contrived headfake in the history of VP-choosing, and Hillary was chosen, the delay would raise questions. Regardless of how it all turns out, there’s a point at which head-fakery and hesitation begin to stink of unpleasant secrets and dishonesty.
