The DNC’s anti-Semitism

posted at 8:45 am on August 21, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

How many times can the DNC mention that Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) is a Jew?  In their pre-emptive attack website on every potential candidate for John McCain’s running mate, they manage to work it into their text five times in six paragraphs.  They even helpfully note that disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff is also Jewish, just in case Democrats missed that key point about his guilt:

Cantor Was Actually Around a Lot of Suspicious Abramoff Events

Cantor Co-Hosted Improper Signatures Fundraiser With Abramoff. Jack Abramoff and House Deputy Republican Whip Eric Cantor co-hosted a fundraiser for then Rep. David Vitter at Abramoff’s Signatures restaurant. In April 2005, Vitter admitted to the Federal Elections Commission that he failed to pay for the expenses for the fundraiser. According to the Times Picayune, Rep. Eric Cantor was “the marquee guest” at the event which sought to raise money from the Jewish community. Both Abramoff and Cantor are Jewish [emphasis mine -- Ed]. [New Orleans Times Picayune, 4/16/05, NRCC Events List, www.nrcc.org]

They’re both … Jewish?? Must be a cabal!  Next thing you know, they’ll be conspiring to change good-old American white bread with that Hebrew egg bread, because it gives them special powers or something.  Hey, wait a minute …

All that Corruption Sure Works Up an Appetite

At Fundraiser, Jack Abramoff Named Sandwich After Eric Cantor — Cantor Asked To Switch Sandwiches. “At a January 2003 fundraiser for Cantor, who had just become chief deputy whip, Abramoff unveiled the Eric Cantor sandwich, ‘a tuna-based stacker,’ which, lamentably, was ‘not quite [the] power lunch befitting’ the only Jewish Republican in the House. Hence a request by Cantor … to switch his eponymous sandwich to roast beef on challah, ‘a deli special that exudes Jewish power.’” [The Hill, 1/18/2006]

Those sneaky you-know-whats!

I guess Barack Obama was right after all.  This election will see dirty smears based on identity politics.  He just got the party wrong.  This didn’t come from a blogger or an e-mail kook — this comes from the DNC itself.  In 660 words, they manage to use a derivative of the word Jew five times in attacking Cantor.  They never explain why this forms such a strong theme in their opposition of Cantor, but apparently they believe that Democrats won’t need an explanation to oppose Jews.

When will Barack Obama attack this real racism from his own party with the same amount of vigor that he falsely accused Republicans of engaging in it?

Addendum: Defenders of the DNC could say, “Well, hey, all of these are just quotes from newspapers like The Hill and the Picayune” — which would be true.  The DNC, however, just managed to pick five quotes that contain five references to Cantor and/or Abramoff’s religion?  Let’s imagine the response that would erupt on the Left if the RNC did the same thing to Obama.  Even Bill Clinton’s single reference to Jesse Jackson’s win in South Carolina got him branded as a race-card player — and that didn’t involve tying Obama to a criminal on the basis of his skin color.

Heck, we don’t have to imagine this at all.  Remember all the cries of “racism” when the subject of Jeremiah Wright finally aired?

Mark Levin is right, the left is completely obsessed with sex and race.

Obama is doing what comes naturally in Chicago politics, the most dirty kind of identity politics by his minions and then he lays the blame on them and say essentially, I’m a minority, I can’t be racist.

That is the lowest among low to attack Cantor in this fashion.

jencab on August 21, 2008 at 8:50 AM

I believe it’s called projection.

Believing your opponent is guilty of the sins you find most disgusting in yourself.

If McCain would pick Cantor the vast majority of jews would still vote for obamanation…..however not this yid. I do not understand the jewish infactuation with the dimmicrats….

robo on August 21, 2008 at 8:53 AM

I really don’t understand why anyone would care about religon or skin color.

Being a Jew is no different that anyone else, usually. Just different practicing lifestyles with a common goal. People whom make a big deal about it make me wonder what is wrong with them.

The DNC excuse will be, “the person who created this website is Jewish so it okay to make fun of ourselves you right-wing anti-semite”

Good job libs, keep the stereotypes alive. Also, that picture of Cantor was all so classy. Suggestion, next time you want to make someone look more stereotypical you should make there nose more hook-like while his arms are wrap around the globe.

Despicable…

Someone asked the other day what reason, beside the war, did Lieberman have for breaking with the Dems. This is the other reason.

JiangxiDad on August 21, 2008 at 8:58 AM

The DNC is populated by far-left lunatics, the exact sort of stinky hippies who donned kuffiyehs during A.N.S.W.E.R. rallies against the Iraq War.

That the far-left and Islamic militants have made common cause to destroy western civilization is no secret.

The far-left hates Jews every bit as much as Islamic militants do. It’s just that the far-left is too lazy, disorganized and gutless to organize or perpetrate pogroms on their own, but they will shamelessly cheer lead for those who do.

If there was a slim ray of “hope” is that Lieberman take his head out of his butt and just become a Conservative. Flip Flopping hasn’t hurt the dems. But then the methane may have affected his brain by this time.

upinak on August 21, 2008 at 9:01 AM

I read what the DNC had to say about Cantor. It was rather thin gruel for attack politics. The title seems to say it all, “The Next Cheney”. Frankly, I believe that they mention the Jewish identity more to cement the neo-con charge than any antisemitism. Admittedly, there may be some weird relation between paranoia about neo-cons and antisemitism. Still, there any many non-Jewish neo-cons like the satanic puppet master Cheney.

While I may be willing to give a pass the Democrats now, it is essential that we start now monitoring the situation in the event Cantor is the nominee. I believe that antisemitism is the one racism many people still feel safe in expressing in polite company.

thuja on August 21, 2008 at 9:01 AM

Technically it’s not racism, Ed, just plain old antisemitism and theophobia. They Dems have no problem with non-Jewish jews, they have no quarrel with the Reform and otherwise self-hating kind. Only when a Jew actually behaves like one – then he becomes a mortal enemy of mankind.

Democrats are so boring, every election the same old junk. They may have a young “exciting” front man but their shtick is a hundred years old.

Cindy Munford on August 21, 2008 at 9:03 AM

In 660 words, they manage to use a derivative of the word Jew five times in attacking Cantor.

I quickly browsed through their dossiers on the other potential VP candidates: Bobby Jindal, Mitt Romney, John Thune, Tom Ridge, Tim Pawlenty, Carly Fiorina, Charlie Crist, and Fred Smith. In not one of them did I see a single reference to the person’s religion.

aunursa on August 21, 2008 at 9:03 AM

And Cantor is really really cheap. Did they add that one in their little rant about Republican Joos? And maybe some crap about how he is probably a Zionist and would sell American values out for Israel (too bad Israel and America have basically the same values).

Geez, they missed out on a couple of the talking points about Jews. Back to your copy of the Protocols, Democrats!!!

JammieWearingFool on August 21, 2008 at 9:11 AM

At what point does the Democrats’ embrace of Islam, their tepid (if any) support for Israel, and their increasing tolerance and/or complicity in antisemitism result in Jewish voters leaving the Democratic party and coming over to the GOP? I understand that democratic socialism is the dominant political philosophy within Judaism, which explains the loyalty to the Democratic party, but I can’t imagine Jewish voters rolling over on Israel in quite the same way as black voters have historically rolled over on their issues…

Outlander on August 21, 2008 at 9:12 AM

The Republican Party is obsessed with Israel. (1) The public is starting to realize that the US government is a puppet government of Israel, and that they are being asked to fight wars for Israel. As people become aware, the issue of who is Jewish will become more widespread. My mother-in-law is Jewish. Do you know who she fears being persecuted by? Americans. She knows that Israel controls US foreign policy, and worries what US citizens will do when it dawns on them that this is the case. She doesn’t have to worry about people on this blog. Nothing will ever dawn on you.

Oh come on. Israel doesn’t “control” American politics. In fact, there’s a lot of back-and-forth between the two countries. We have an investment in Israel because we want functioning democracies in the Middle East.

What irritates me about Israel is that it has taken hostile action against us on several occasions (I think Israel is second only to Russia in terms of the number of spies the U.S. captured who were working in our government, and don’t forget Israel’s unprovoked attack on the USS Liberty). You don’t see the British, the Aussies, or the Japanese spying on us.

Anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia…they do it all. The party of inclusiveness and compassion will rip and tear at any perceived “weakness” with which they think they can bring down a Republican – e.g., the Kerry campaign’s ridiculous attempt in ‘04 to “out” Dick Cheney’s daughter.

pueblo1032 on August 21, 2008 at 9:49 AM

Ah, now Capt, you’ve highlighted the eternal dichotomy of the Democratic Leftists (Oxymoron Alert!); they’re Racists, and Marxists at heart.

The irony and Dichotomies: Marx was a Jew himself, and the core support, the driving force behind the Democratic Left in this country, are the Self-hating, self-loathing, Secular Jews, who are……Anti-Semitic!

Yeah, go figure, but the examples abound: Noam Chomsky; Al Franken, Sean Penn, Madeline Albright, George Soros, etc…

Even John Kerry, who knew his family was Jewish, and yet for 40+ years, passed himself off as “Irish”!

I have many Israeli (hence “Jewish”) friends and neighbors down here in Atlanta; they think the American, Secular Jews, are completely and utterly insane; they despise them for their slavish support of Obama, “Democrats”, and their blantant support and sympathies for the Jihadis.

Not being Jewish myself, I confess, I just don’t understand it.

But it reminds me of the “Trusty” syndrome, from the WWII Concentration camps; whereby certain inmates, in order to survive, turned on their fellow Jews, and became the enforcers for the Nazi regieme.

It’s either that, or a kind of Mass Psychosis/Stockholm Syndrome type of thing; whatever it is, it’s clearly, clinically insane….

And while we watch you on a youtube screaming as you are beheaded by an Iranian who hates Americans, which includes American sympothizers, because of your idiotic ideology for some seriously supressed rage and racist issues… all we can do is pray for you and wonder WTF you were thinking by wanting to be part of a terroristic regime.

You are a sorry excuse for a person.

Mearshimer and Walt just visited Israel and appeared on Israeli TV (this would be impossible in the US). Overall they were well received and there was a healthy debate. It looks like on the whole Israeli’s are much more intelligent than yourself.

I wish more American Jews were Republican. I don’t really understand why so many of them vote Democrat.

“I think Dave IS Jim Moran.”

Or at least members of the same Book of the Month Club.

NoDonkey on August 21, 2008 at 11:01 AM

Dave’s here? Good ol’ Dave! The man who has gone on the record as supporting Hamas, Amadinnerjacket, and went silent when I specifically challenged him to deny that he wants to see more Jews killed by the Palestinians. He really does believe in the Protocols of Zion and I suspect he salutes a Swastika every night before bed while mourning the closing of Treblinka and Auschwitz.

Dave’s support of this statement on Cantor is pretty much all the evidence you need to know that it is anti-jewish. It’s practically prima facie evidence!

Russia has been “out to get us” for sometime.

Told ya. Hilarious.

And while we watch you on a youtube screaming as you are beheaded by an Iranian

Wow. That sounds pretty scary. My roommate is going to Iran at Christmas. I hope she is not beheaded!

There a couple of guys that go around the world carrying crosses. They both went to Iran. Instead of being beheaded, this is what happened:

The entire time we were there, we did not receive one negative word or reaction. All we heard was, “You are welcome in Iran, and your cross is welcome here.” We were overwhelmed at the wonderful love, kindness, and hospitality shown to us.

And:

Everyone was friendly to us, not one bad word or gesture! Amazing! We encountered no problem carrying the cross in the countryside!!!

I guess they were very lucky.

Mearshimer and Walt just visited Israel and appeared on Israeli TV (this would be impossible in the US). Overall they were well received and there was a healthy debate. It looks like on the whole Israeli’s are much more intelligent than yourself.

From the article you link:

The academic duo’s visit confirmed what they had already witnessed through favourable reviews in Ha’aretz newspaper: that the Israeli liberal-left media is more receptive than its American equivalent to the professors’ claims.

That’s an inconvenient fact that you left out. What a surprise.

The book you’ve so breathlessly tossed to us as this tome of enlightenment has been thoroughly trashed by everyone with any sense of reality around them. Except perhaps by Pat Buchanan. But then, I was talking about reality, wasn’t I?

Bet you enjoy keeping company with that dirtbag, don’t you?

Addendum: Defenders of the DNC could say, “Well, hey, all of these are just quotes from newspapers like The Hill and the Picayune” — which would be true. The DNC, however, just managed to pick five quotes that contain five references to Cantor and/or Abramoff’s religion?

Please forgive me if someone else mentioned this already, but on the headlines page, rw made a great point on that.

The Hill article [1/18/2006] is titled Larry David ‘Curbs’ talk of Cantor connection to show and quotes from another article. I suspect that the reason that the DNC did not go to the original source [Jan 31, 2003] is because the original quote is:

The sandwich chosen to carry the name of the only Jewish Republican in the House of Representatives was a tuna-based stacker — not quite a power lunch befitting the person who GOP leaders hope will reinforce the growing trend of Jews switching their partisan loyalty from Democratic to Republican.

nukemhill:
The TV show London and Kirshenbaum is not leftist. M & W had to cancel appearances in the US, but they are allowed to speak at Hebrew University in Israel. The technique of calling any critique of Israel anti-Semitic in order to avoid real discussion does not work in Israel, and they are much more willing to engage in an intellectual debate. The anti-Semitic charge is starting to lose its power in the US as well. Once people stop paying attention to distractions like this and start educating themselves, the game will be up.

dave742 on August 21, 2008 at 11:37 AM

Engagement with dave742 is not serious conversation. I suppose one could argue that it helps relieve stress to spew at him, but I don’t know that such activities help develop the positive character traits. I urge those replying to dave742 to ask yourselves if Benjamin Franklin’s observation “He that lies down with dogs, shall rise up with fleas” applies in your case?

So people can walk around Iran with giant crosses and they are treated wonderfully. They are not beheaded, or attacked in any way.
Do you know how you can be attacked in Israel? If your are Jewish and try to save the life of an Arab, you may be stabbed by fellow Jews. If you are a Jew that dresses the wrong way, the Jewish“modesty squad” may attack you.

Now that’s civilized society.

Vanceone: OMG, you are correct, it IS “DAVE”!

Please all, when referring to “dave742″, please use the term “DAVE”; that denotes just to say the name is an insult, or a swear word!

Good old “DAVE” the Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi, Anti-Semitic, Delusional Democratic Leftist Traitor Nutbag from Capt’n Ed’s old Blog, Captain’s Quarters!

Good….old…..”DAVE”!

The guy who is on the record over at CQ as been Anti-Jewish/Anti-Semitic, Anti-American, Pro-Jihadi; who openly roots for Hezbollah and Hamas against Israel, who believes 9/11 was a Jewish/Mossad/BushMcChimpyHalliburtonCheneyReThugliKKKan Conspiracy; who has accused the Israeli Government and Israel Armed forces of “War Crimes” against Lebanon, during the Israeli – Hezbollah “war” the other year; who quotes a Leftwing Israeli newspaper quoting an anonymous “soldier” quoting an anonymous “Battalion Officer”; “DAVE” considers That a “reliable” source of Israeli War Crimes!

Good Old “DAVE”; who was so disturbed when I pointed out that Ramzi Yousef and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, perpetrators of the attacks on the WTC ‘93, were tied into Bin Laden even back then, via Bin Laden’s brother-in-law; “DAVE” became so upset that I actually “knew” this information which was so disturbing to him, as it actually upset his worldview that the United States was not responsible for 9/11, and that Jihadis he so favors, might actually be guilty; “DAVE” so upset once I imparted that information to him, that he actually threatened me to sic his Congressmen, his Senator, the FBI, etc., on me, because I “knew stuff”!

That good old “DAVE”!

Dear Readers of HA; please feel free, any and every time, when referring to “DAVE”, to mock him, insult him, and above all, point out constantly that he is an: Anti-American/Pro-Jihadi, Anti-Semitic, Delusional Democratic Traitor Leftist Nutbag.

These are notinsults“, nor “labels” when applying them to “DAVE”; they are just Facts, that’s all…
