McCain ad: “Housing problem”

It didn’t take long for John McCain to answer Barack Obama’s tweak on his supposed riches. Team McCain has a bona-fide television spot that will “air in key states” — most likely the same states in which Obama ran his ad. Obama can’t pretend he didn’t set the stage for this:
Obama has much closer ties to this convicted felon than any McCain has with Reed, who never got charged with a crime despite McCain’s efforts investigating the Abramoff scandal with the Indian Affairs Committee. Obama made his housing bed, and now he has to lie in it.
Update: Did Obama fall for a classic pincers movement?
Update II: At the request of Nadhmi Auchi’s representatives, I have removed a passage from this post and retract the points made in it. The newspaper articles on which those allegations got based have been partially retracted by the Times of London since I first posted on Mr. Auchi.

The political silly season has begun.
Judging by the articles appearing in the MSM, the political ‘silly season’ has officially started. It can also be called the ‘grasping at straws’ season.
Like clock work, it always occurs during the final days of a presidential campaign and can be identified by the outrageous inanity being put out by a candidate and the MSM in an effort to influence we voters.
The 2008 presidential ‘silly season’ officially began yesterday when an Obama ad torturously suggested that McCain is not qualified to be President because he couldn’t remember how many houses owned.
During the 2000 presidential ‘silly season’ Al Gore colored his face and wore Alpha Male clothing in an attempt to look like Ronald Reagan.
During the 2004 presidential ‘silly season’, John Kerry stood on the podium at the Democrat Nation Convention and proclaimed “I am John Kerry and I am reporting for duty”. This from a man who has made it abundantly plain that he hates the military and gained his political recognition by appearing before Congress in the 1970’s and lying about the military atrocities that supposedly occurred in Viet Nam.
So, just sit back, relax, have a brewski, and laugh. Because when all is said and done – it will not mean a damn thing!

See Politico article about Cindy McCain’s properties.
The reason he doesn’t know is her trusts keep buying and selling properties for investments.
EJDolbow on August 21, 2008 at 7:02 PM
Good job McCain! Don’t let this sucker off the hook.
rplat on August 21, 2008 at 7:05 PM
What the hell happened to Obama’s campaign? This past month has just been tactical error after tactial error. Time for a shake-up, dude.
BadgerHawk on August 21, 2008 at 7:06 PM
That McCain ad could’ve been so much better. It sounded like it was thrown together in 5 minutes.
lorien1973 on August 21, 2008 at 7:07 PM
For Obama to smear McCain for being a rich guy only shows what a political tin ear he’s got. When he was playing messiah for the confirmed nutroots, he could say just about anything and the disciples would lap all of it up uncritically. Maybe he got used to his every word being treated like it was a divine revelation. Now he’s sloppy and unprepared for a forum where people will actually question what he says.
If “Mr. Bipartisan” McCain can make Obama look like such a feckless dope, I can only imagine what a hardball player like Giuliani would have done to him.
Cicero43 on August 21, 2008 at 7:09 PM
At least McCain got his properties honestly. It’s coming on the home stretch, McCain pulled ahead in the Reuters poll, and Obama’s getting just a little desperate.
manwithblackhat on August 21, 2008 at 7:10 PM
McCain is landing blow after blow in a very short period of time —and a particular point in time. Could McCain’s camp conceivably think they will scare enough super delegates to bring on the Mother of All Chaos? (That would be Hillary, of course.)
laelaps on August 21, 2008 at 7:14 PM
Really Ed? “Supposed” riches?
e-pirate on August 21, 2008 at 7:15 PM
The ad is short & sharp. It probably was tossed together very quickly. They needed to strike back before this latest Hail Mary by Sen. Obama could cause too much disruption. Hopefully, a slightly longer and detailed version will appear soon.

If Cindy is diversifying her investments, including investing in some real estate, that means she’s wisely spreading her risks. Good for her.

Barry has a bad case of property envy. I wonder how he would react to Kings and Queens with palaces, etc. He’ll negotiate with a midget from Iran but not with rich monarchs? Go figure.

Have you noticed how much longer BO’s nose is getting…?
d1carter on August 21, 2008 at 7:24 PM
Bad, bad move by The Messiah. He must have thought his MSM shield and legion of worshipers made him immune to questions about his smarmy past.
McCain knows the game and won’t play by Osama Obama’s rules. Hardly seems fair!
MrScribbler on August 21, 2008 at 7:24 PM
I forgot to say’ a RICH midget.
Christine on August 21, 2008 at 7:25 PM
Blowing money like crazy and STILL getting hammered by McCain; hope and change is all Baracky will have left by November.

Ummmmm this ad was racist cause they said he couldn’t afford it.

A weak of delegates shrieking at each other in fury and fear.
I like it.

One more observation. More and more I get the feeling that Barry thinks he’s a stand up comic. I have to carry my bucket around with me when The ‘funny’ One is on the airwaves or on the tube.
Christine on August 21, 2008 at 7:30 PM
The wheels are coming off the campaign the more Obama goes off the teleprompter.
ihasurnominashun on August 21, 2008 at 7:36 PM
They should’ve asked if Ubama wants the government to own all houses and Section-8 them out to everyone, which I believe is what he truly wants. This “man” is a Capitalist-hating, America-hating Communist.
SouthernGent on August 21, 2008 at 7:36 PM
You have to laugh at what Sondra said. At least McCain knows how many states we have.
Rightwingsparkle on August 21, 2008 at 7:37 PM
I think the people who could be swayed by negative ads from McCain have already been swayed.
Be interesting to see how far McCain drops after Obama’s first set of negative ads.
alphie on August 21, 2008 at 7:41 PM
Alphie, Obama started running negative ads in June, and has ever since. In fact, Obama went negative first. So far, McCain has “dropped” into the lead.
Ed Morrissey on August 21, 2008 at 7:45 PM
Spook86 over at In From the Cold points out that the Democrats’ 2004 Presidential nominee John Kerry owns (at least) five houses. Further, thanks to Theresa Heinz’s fortune, Kerry and his Mrs. are worth considerably more than the McCains.
Sauce for the goose, Lt. Saavik?

Hillary fell apart because they didn’t anticipate having to campaign past Super Tuesday.
Bambam fell apart when the charge of racism backfired.

Since when is wealth a disqualifying factor for national office anyway? If we’ve got to have political leaders, I prefer some that have actually achieved some success before going into politics.
Obama’s attack was just stupid from every angle.

That is an excellent point. The general public will NOT be intimidated by charges of racism from a bunch liberal nitwits. They can’t shout “RACISM” every time, so they have nothing left.

abinitioadinfinitum on August 21, 2008 at 9:15 PM
The claim that Obama gave political favors in return for the house is going to bite McCain in the ass.
Typhonsentra on August 21, 2008 at 10:14 PM
Excellent ad.
I have been a Mccain supporter from the start of the 2008 campaign in January 2007. I have seen a lot of doubts experssed on this site and elsewhere about McCain which I thought were mistaken. But I knew McCain was the right guy when he stood loyal with and for our magnificent troops in Iraq at a low point in the war when my older son was serving as U.S. Army infantry platoon leader there. Now, are you all seeing the guy in McCain who is a fighting American patriot who can and will win the Presidency in November?
Phil Byler on August 21, 2008 at 11:26 PM
Hey Barack…I will use your own words on you….”Is this the best they’ve got?”
Desperation is very unattractive.
Winebabe on August 21, 2008 at 11:29 PM
I think people are finally getting to know “who McCain is up against”. Lol.
Aylios on August 22, 2008 at 9:49 AM
A comedy in three acts.
ACT ONE
Obama rails against his opponent for being out of touch. A passerby picks up a crumpled newspaper with a long forgotten story of a few weeks ago covering Obama’s private comment in a meeting with billionaires that Americans “cling to their guns and religion,” instead of voting for Democrats. John McCain walks by and Obama’s surrogates make a sport with jokes about his age, claiming he is forgetful, senile, and out of touch. McCain takes their jokes like a man, rolling with the punches, going about his business. The scene shifts to Obama meeting with his advisors, fretting that despite their glorious campaign, the One’s poll numbers are falling behind. END OF ACT ONE.
ACT TWO
On a quiet street corner, a reporter interviews John McCain, and asks him how many houses he has. McCain stammers and says he doesn’t know. Immediately, bursting out of every window and door are Obama surrogates singing praise to their man-god, claiming McCain is too rich, too old, too out of touch, and he can’t relate to the common man like the One can. Obama then strolls by with his advisors, wearing a big smirk on his face, talking about what he’ll say in his victory speech. END OF ACT TWO.
ACT THREE
The whole town gathers to hear one of McCain’s supporters speak about how Obama got his million dollar mansion from Tony Rezko, a convicted felon, with Obama paying Rezko back by sending public money to Rezko. As for McCain, he doesn’t own any houses, but his wife owns seven, all paid for with her own money. Obama’s supporters shrug their shoulders and go home. The good townsfolk gather around John McCain and invite him to attend the town barbecue held at the park. At the barbecue, Obama is holding a gold medallion on a string, trying to hypnotize the town into voting for him. The townsfolk roll their eyes and tell him to scram. Curtains!
