FactCheck.org: We’ve seen Obama’s original birth certificate and it checks out

posted at 8:20 pm on August 21, 2008 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly

It’s real and it’s spectacular.

Recently FactCheck representatives got a chance to spend some time with the birth certificate, and we can attest to the fact that it is real and three-dimensional and resides at the Obama headquarters in Chicago. We can assure readers that the certificate does bear a raised seal, and that it’s stamped on the back by Hawaii state registrar Alvin T. Onaka (who uses a signature stamp rather than signing individual birth certificates). We even brought home a few photographs…

The document is a “certification of birth,” also known as a short-form birth certificate. The long form is drawn up by the hospital and includes additional information such as birth weight and parents’ hometowns. The short form is printed by the state and draws from a database with fewer details. The Hawaii Department of Health’s birth record request form does not give the option to request a photocopy of your long-form birth certificate, but their short form has enough information to be acceptable to the State Department. We tried to ask the Hawaii DOH why they only offer the short form, among other questions, but they have not given a response.

The scan released by the campaign shows halos around the black text, making it look (to some) as though the text might have been pasted on top of an image of security paper. But the document itself has no such halos, nor do the close-up photos we took of it. We conclude that the halo seen in the image produced by the campaign is a digital artifact from the scanning process.

Much more plus high-rez photos at the link. This piece would have been helpful two months ago, when the conspiracy nonsense really started raging. If our e-mail tips are any gauge it’s petered out over the past month, thanks in part to Politifact’s debunking and the revelation of Obama’s birth announcement in a Honolulu newspaper in late July. Hopefully this is the final nail, although don’t be surprised if COB Truthers come back insisting that nothing but the long-form will do. Exit question: Why didn’t Team Barry simply produce the document for the media from the start?

I’ve been trying to tell people that this was a big trap, just waiting for Team McCain to step into it. Can’t we just talk about how he hangs out with terrorists and lets babies die? Those seem potent enough.

That is often the question with the Obama campaign, isn’t it? They could head off so much stupidity and distraction by just coughing up the requested info/documents without hesitation the first time they’re asked. They make it look like they’re hiding something when they play coy like they do. Michelle’s thesis, Barack’s health records, the birth certificate, the stuff about the home they bought, etc. Perhaps they like the distraction and how it makes the opposition look like fools for barking up these trees when there’s real stuff to be bringing into the light.

aero on August 21, 2008 at 8:25 PM

BH, I wondered pretty quickly the same thing, which is why I never put too much stock in it. They kept the real thing under wraps, hoping McCain et al would jump on it. Good on ‘em for not biting.

Obama needs to show the original birth certificate to the public. If he is elected and it turn out that he wasn’t born in America, we will have a national crisis. This is a serious issue that must be resolve and not through a third party.

Barry’s a flake. A very lucky flake (so far in his career), but a flake nonetheless.

Until now, he’s never been under so much scrutiny. He’s still trying to learn how to respond effectively. Either he ignores it, or he overshoots the mark and makes more trouble for himself.

Very much like John Kerry, actually.

What, do you really think they have to answer petty and distracting questions from bitter racists? They are our betters and need to focus on remaking America into a socialist utopia. And if you keep bothering them, you’ll have to go for a little “reeducation”.

Why? The same reason he won’t release anything – he’s secretive. Maybe he has something to hide. Maybe he’s just paranoid. Whatever the root cause, the guy isn’t free with information. Be it his tenure as Editor of the H Law review, his voting records in Illinois or the Records at UofC, he won’t tell anybody anything without it being pried out of him.

Because they were probably happy to let some people pursue some silly conspiracy, wasting time and resources on it.

Its not Obamas job to save people from their own sillyness, and unfortunately, some conservatives have wasted months chasing after this nonsense.

Why didn’t Team Barry simply produce the document for the media from the start?

Red herring? He’s got a pretty full closet of skeletons, and if they’re off trying to find his birth certificate, they won’t have time to focus on, say, his connection with domestic terrorists and racist anti-Americans.

The media should insist on a full vetting of all citizenship documents, tax records and medical records of candidates for the Presidency. The MSM let Obama skip documentation of citizenship and provide nothing more than a 1-page medical “summary”, while passing along with abandon demagouery by Obama staffers about McCain’s tax records.

I never understood what people were so suspicious about. Nobody really effectively disputed that Sen. Obama was born in the USA and that his mother was a US citizen. It didn’t affect his citizenship to have a non-citizen dad. Obviously, he is a US citizen and having been born here he was perfectly eligible to run for President. The conspiracy theorists should be looking at his flimsy resume and wondering how he managed to become his party’s presumptive nominee!

Camera Make: Canon

Hmmmm, either factcheck.org is in on the conspiracy, or they need to factcheck how to set the date on their camera. ;) They also should have used a flash, trying to take a picture of a piece of paper being held up at 1/60 made for a blurry pic.

Not so fast to give a pass. Let’s hear the whole story. Many have stated, that Barack Hussein Obama would bring back a birth certificate, upon his return from vacationing in Hawaii, and low and behold:

FactCheck.org
Annenberg Public Policy Center
320 National Press Building
Washington DC 20045

The Annenberg Foundation that Barack Hussein Obama, and William Ayers are board members of, magically produce a Hawaiian BC. This is the same Annenberg Foundation that refuses to have the University of Illinois disclose past archived records. Figure it?

byteshredder on August 21, 2008 at 11:29 PM

Sight of an original Birth Certificate should be undertaken by a Qualified Ombudsman for all candidates for President, since it is the law that one must be a natural-born American to be eligible.

It is of vital importance in that, if invalid, all campaign issues are a non-event.

I know you guys are not so one-track-minded that you can’t see the difference between arguing that a document is an abstract as opposed to an original. Even this article above says that the orinigal contained more information than this curent document.

Now I am thoroughly certain that the original has embarassing information. Now a man’s heritage in no way defines his abilities. But if a man campaigns that his background makes him more qualified to be President of the US, then we have the right to ask if the facts as he presents them are true.

Obama claims that his foreign policy experience is superior because of a traveled childhood. Currently, Obama says that he was raised by a single mother. Was he? Or was he raised by white grandparents? Were this parents married or not?Dues he speak fluent Arabic? This would seem to be a good thing – unless, of course, his patriotism is suspect. So when he has 60’s terrorist friends, warships under a race-baiting black pastor, and campaigns in Berlin,it becomes fair to ask how he was influenced by being raised a million for his first decade.

This isn’t about forged documents. It’s about character and allegiances.

Seixon on August 22, 2008 at 9:21 AM

I question the timing. Hawaii trip and poof new birth certificate.

LOL.

As per “conspiracy” theories, kindly tidy the frayed edges before completely dismissing the issue of legitimacy.
1. Fact Check sources do not list Constitutional requirements of any POTUS. Their affirmation of the Obama birth certificate is only that he has a Hawaiian birth certificate and generic birth announcement in the paper.
2. More importantly, clarify Ms. Dunham’s status as the single American parent of the POTUS hopeful Barack Hussein Obama, namely her age and her residency. Those were required points that BHO supposedly did not Constitutionally meet as a POTUS contender.

What’s the harm in playing Doubting Thomas to the illegitimate BHO POTUS wannabe? No tin foil hat is to be assigned in lieu of or prior to a thorough vetting.

Just put all the cards on the table prior to the election.

maverick muse on August 22, 2008 at 9:35 AM

Sorry being born in the CANAL ZONE circa 1930 is AMERICAN territory. Leftists dumbest clowns on the planet.

Correct.

Besides being born within an American Territory, McCain was born in a US Military Installation, the child of TWO AMERICAN CITIZENS.

McCain triply qualifies.

Obama with one under-aged US citizen parent may not qualify EVERY Constitutional requirement.

The historic pattern of Marxist progressives is to take what is not Constitutionally permitted (as in illegal immigrant invasion) and then RULE the infringed law invalid. THAT is why I will remain a thorn in Obama’s side until he absolutely proves himself. It is not my job to accept the corrupt Obama on faith. It would be Obama’s modus operandi to get himself elected though Constitutionally unqualified, and then mutate the Constitution to accommodate his own existence.

It takes no conspiracy theory to doubt Obama’s reliability or to doubt Obama’s credibility or to doubt Obama’s devotion to Marx and Obama’s aversion to our Constitution’s founding principles.

maverick muse on August 22, 2008 at 9:50 AM

I love the irony of this quote from FactCheck:

“It is possible that Obama conspired his way to the precipice of the world’s biggest job, involving a vast network of people and government agencies over decades of lies. Anything’s possible. But step back and look at the overwhelming evidence to the contrary and your sense of what’s reasonable has to take over.”

Such a “sense of what’s reasonable” would be a great thing to apply to an even grander and more incredible conspiracy theory – 9/11 a la the Troofers.

I admit I was perplexed by the artefacts in the KoS scanned image, and called fake, but it really does look like this is flogging a dead horse.

Anyway, there are far more devastating angles of attack to exploit.

The link to Texas Darlin is a useful link. Obviously set up for political purpose, it nonetheless is a source for Obama data

The fact that Factcheck.org is owned by Annenberg tells me the Obama camp is more stupid than stupid, to set up a defense from a source so easily impugned.

This feeds my paranoia that Obama is just a puppet and/or chump created to rehabilitate Hillary and then tossed aside.

Yet, the black populace would rise up if Obama is dumped so it does not compute. The Malcolm-X Factor

Are Obamians trying to so convolute the issues they knew would come from Obama’s murky background that we can no longer distinguish the good data from the bad data?

That is a lawyer’s gimmick used to make people throw away good evidence with the bad. Baby with bathwater.

The whole mess is too messy. Muddying muddy waters is not the best way to win undecided voters

The Caucus Fraud link at Texas Darlin increases my paranoia that Hillary will ‘rescue’ the convention from the failed candidate

Obama won 13 out of 14 caucuses, but only 18 out of 39 primaries. If the caucuses could be set up to be discredited that would be quite a coup.

Again the black DEMs would probably riot of Obama was dumped.

Obama would have to agree to resign, sadly, tragically in an endless tedious uplifting historic clap trap speech at the convention to once again prove how corrupt Republicans destroy blacks. Hillary could be ever so sad and promise to fight so blacks are never cheated again.

Man, this election is curioser and curioser every day

Makes the McCain side of the election a piece of cake

a la Florida, which was set up in advance for the ‘chad scandal’. Knowing Florida was going to be close, ballots designed by Democratic politicians in key precints were just misleading enough to say it was an accident, but sufficiently misleading for the usual suspects to step forward and declare their votes were stolen. The chad shakers were already in position like vultures.

The press of course, was shocked, shocked to find out the vote was stolen and ran in circles muddying the waters while chads fell from heaven

It almost worked then

It could work now. It would make great tv ratings

Correct.

Besides being born within an American Territory, McCain was born in a US Military Installation, the child of TWO AMERICAN CITIZENS.

McCain triply qualifies.

I love that kind of legal analysis. What is the basis for a triple qualification?

Maybe it’s useful to quote the constitution:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

The requirements are listed in there:
- Natural born citizen
- Thirty five years old
- Fourteen years a resident within the US

There is no such a thing as triple qualifying.

I believe that “triple” was in reference to qualifying as a “natural-born citizen”, not for POTUS.

Pretty damn amazing.

AGAIN, we have never seen an image of BO’s BIRTH CERTIFICATE. We’ve only seen the computer abstract of a database.

Worst-case scenario: Osama’s BC states (1) unmarried (2) Muslim, and (3) citizenship: British Protectorate!

It looks like we’re finally going to get a decent resolution to this. Apparently, a suit has been filed in federal court (in Philly) contesting BHO’s Constitutional qualifications. For worried conservatives, it’s an ex-Democrat operative who filed it.

Good for Philip J. Berg, however, he’s also a nutbar.
