Take a nice long moment to consider what your getting ready to risk attempting, and think about the joys of instead playing a video game at home… where it’s nice and mostly (or at least, more) safe

Update: Apparently the guy is in critical condition. Hopefully he will be alright.

Have you ever water skiied? When first learning, it’s common to lose your footing and be planted face first in the water.

It’s also common to still pointlessly grip the rope, so you’re dragged along for several more seconds, even as water is being rushed up your sinus passages and into your mouth. After several seconds the rookie skiier realizes he should let go of the rope. Very common…

Now couple that similar instinct with a healthy dose of terror and you will understand why he didn’t just “let go”.

Then again, it could be like other people pointed out…he was strapped in.
