“There are some families who have been here for 4 or 500 years. They didn’t cross the border, the border crossed them.”

So which is it genius?
4 years or 500 years?

“When I’m president, I’ll tear up the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo…si, se puede!”

Can Obama explain that to me?

The Mexicans were sitting in their homes minding their own business and the US border SUCKED THEM ACROSS against their will?

EJDolbow on August 19, 2008 at 11:07 PM

500 years? I think the Native Americans were here a little bit longer than that. How long have the tribal leaders been here? About as long as the rest of us, depending on their DOB.

Where are the descendants of the peoples they committed genocide upon when they wandered into town?

Sounds like Obama is going for broke and covering all bets,

I can imagine what a American Native Republican would say

That way, my fam can get some dough for our relatives the Indians killed at Jamestown. That’d be sweet. I could use a new video camera. /sarc

“The border crossed them”…does this mean Obama is in favor of “Russian” Ossetians and Akhazians swarming over Georgia?

coldwarrior on August 19, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Over at the BarrackObama.com, Obama made a “strong” statement about the territorial integrity of Georgia. So, territorial integrity for Georgia is perfectly fine…but territorial integrity for the United States isn’t?

Wait, so, like, someone who lived, like, “500 years ago” in what at some future time would be the United States IS today worth our consideration, while a U.S. citizen today who is a few months old and in the womb (not yet born) is NOT worth our consideration?

This stupid quote by Obama (which he ripped off) reminds me of the other stupid quote from Obama about the U.S. approacing our “fourth century” as a nation.

Oh, and the “57 states” thing. This guy’s stupid, face it, he’s stupid.

Obama said:
“We are 68 years away from being in our 4th century.”

So:
1776 our nation’s beginning
1876 = our first century
1976 = our second century
2076 will be our third century.

We’re “in our” THIRD CENTURY as a nation, not “(beginning) our fourth century” as Obama says.

Does Obama really think like this? These ongoing raw and wrong statements?

S on August 19, 2008 at 11:37 PM

in reality this is very dangerous. this will dig up anceint greviences. Instead of moving forward as one nation, this line of talk will move us back and could cause widespread choas as all ancient greviences come to the surface. will we have mass emigration to africa and back to europe?

24ahead’s critique is trifling. It seems to make much more sense to make an argument as to who the present-day Americans can best allow into the country, from the standpoint of the common advantage of doing so. Bringing people into the country mostly for the sake of their manual labor didn’t work to the Americans’ long-term advantage. I suggest focusing on recruiting the healthy, beautiful, intelligent, and talented.

My ancestors came to the colony of Virginia nearly 400 years ago (in the early 17th century) — and it was already a pretty bustling place when they arrived.

As for Obama’s remark about the tribal leaders, does Obama believe in spontaneous generation? Does he think their ancestors just magically sprang up out of the dirt of the North American continent one day? All of our ancestors originally came from the continent of Africa. Is Obama suggesting that the entire world has the right to descend upon the African continent and set up homes there wherever we choose, regardless of the laws of the sovereign nations of Africa, just because we can all trace our ancestry back to that continent? I’m guessing the Africans would not be too keen on that idea, or Obama either. But somehow it’s okay for him to suggest that our nation has no right to protect itself from being invaded by foreigners with similarly weak claims to live here.

AZCoyote on August 20, 2008 at 12:06 AM

If the border crossed them over 150 years ago, how come they were still on the other side of the border until just recently?

Methinks, we should add logic what these people are foreign to.

Dusty on August 20, 2008 at 12:40 AM

logic what = logic to what

Dusty on August 20, 2008 at 12:42 AM

I am really beginning to wonder if Obama has ever commented on or written about private property rights. If he respects private property, then what he is saying about borders is nullified. If he is denying the fact that the USA is the legal owner of it’s territory, then de facto he doesn’t recognize that I own my land.
Therefore it is ripe for the taking. Good luck with that…

redshirt on August 20, 2008 at 12:42 AM

To take his position on face value and spread the guilt in the most egalitarian manner possible, only those whose ancestors, back to the nth generation, never killed, participated in genocide, enslaved or in any other way “victimized” any other people have a “right” to consider themselves to be “not immigrants.”

Those “The One” judges “guilty” - and that is precisely what he does - have no “right” to claim true ownership of any land obtained through force by any nation, clan or tribe. In fact, appropriate expression of guilt should compel all but those whose forebears are free of such stains to remove themselves to the place of their ultimate origin.
It’ll be crowded in the space between the Tigris and Euphrates, with a completely empty world around it. But Obamessiah has decreed it.

Sigh. Sadly, our other choice is just as disgusting.

There were no blacks on the North American continent until the 16th century.

Should they all have to return to Africa, since the border crossed them, too?

They do have their own continent.

Why don’t they go back?

And the same with those of Hispanic descent.

Shouldn’t they all return to Spain and leave the Americas to the children of the aboriginal natives alone?

In fact, shouldn’t we all just go back to the Olduvai Gorge, eat raw meat, and kill things with rocks?

Obama will be going at the the cartoon caveman Neanderthal vote next.

And then the coelecanths.

Leave no stone unpandered.

“You don’t?”
.
“OK, then you have title insurance, right? Just make a claim.”
.
“You don’t have title insurance??”
.
“What are you, some kind of idiot?”
.
“What do you mean its yours because your ancestors lived here? My ancestors lived in the Black Forest 300 years ago, does that mean I own Germany? That’s great news, I’ll let the Germans know that Obama said Germany belongs to me and my Neanderthal ancestors.”
.
“Where is your family from, BTW?”
.
“I don’t think Guadalupe was ever part of the US, Are you sure the US border used to be that far South??”
.
“Wow, you learn something new every day!”
.
“So, do you want Guadalupe back, or what?”
.
“Souix City, Iowa??”
.
“I thought Souix City belonged to the Native Americans?”
.
“Oh! Guadalupe IS part of ‘America’ and Souix City is part of the ‘Indian Nation’, I see!”
.
“Then we are either ALL Americans, or none of us are! I agree! Cans I haves another cervesa??”
.
“How come the US doesn’t let the Native Mexicans have casinos like the ‘Tribes’?”
.
“Just wondering.”

From the time of Adam and Eve, everyone had to come from someplace, sometime.

So what, if anyone outside our laws feels entitled to our space on this earth, wherever their ancestors where before, that was then, this is now and wherever they where recently is just as good as living here outside our laws, if they make it that way, which is their own issue and no responsibility of ours.

We are not responsible for all the peoples on the earth and especially not for people who take us for a bunch of suckers and its incredible that any Americans would think we are, or should be.

Grafted on August 20, 2008 at 6:38 AM

There is an old South of the Border saying

A closed mouth catches no flies

[Sigh] in case Obama is reading this I will elaborate:

‘Flies’ refer to insects not baseballs, that fly around garbage piles.

If the mouth is closed the flies cannot fly into the mouth. A mouth is open more if a politician is talking than if a politician is eating arugula. Once a fly flies into the mouth it is too late.

Flies are Christians. They are not muslims and they have never been muslims, if they ever were.

Eating a fly is not above the paygrade of a politician. Not eating a fly is a cheap form of patriotism, like flag lapel pins.

A fly is a Citizen of the world.

The fly is not longer what it could be or what it once was.

A fly is just downright mean

The ancestors of today’s Mexicans came from Spain. According to Obama’s logic, they should go back to Spain and give Mexico back to the Aztecs.
