DNCC hires disgraced former cop as security consultant

Denver’s CBS affiliate discovered that the DNCC hired a security consultant who had to resign from the Denver police force in a moonlighting scandal five years ago. Gary Lauricella and several other police officers would abandon their posts to work for $30 an hour in the afternoon as crossing guards for a private school. When the story broke, Lauricella’s work records got mysteriously falsified in an attempt to show him off-duty when working for the school.
Brian Maass reported this after current Denver police complained about the hire:
In 2003, a CBS4 investigation named Lauricella, a 29-year police veteran, as one of three top commanders in the Denver Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Bureau who were routinely leaving their posts in the middle of the afternoon to work an outside job as a $30 an hour crossing guard for a private school. The revelation triggered a criminal investigation, reforms in DPD off-duty policies and hefty fines and suspensions for the other two commanders. One was suspended for 30 days for his conduct and fined another ten days pay. Denver’s Manager of Safety ordered another lieutenant suspended for 20 days and he was fined 13 days pay.
However, Lauricella’s case was even more egregious. After he was confronted about working an outside job in the middle of his normal work day, someone immediately doctored Lauricella’s time records, changing dozens of days to try to make it appear he had been doing nothing wrong. A special prosecutor appointed to examine the case, ruled no criminal charges should be filed, but said the tampering with Lauricella’s time records was “suspicious … inappropriate” and concluded it was “highly unlikely” anyone other than Lauricella had falsified his work records.
Lauricella was suspended for seven months during the investigation but resigned in August 2003 rather than face disciplinary measures, which could have included termination.
The DNCC wouldn’t talk to CBS4 about this story, and probably for good reason. A Google search taking ten seconds would have revealed Lauricella’s status with the Denver PD, let alone a decent vetting process. One might think that the city of Denver had other current and retired police officers ready and willing to work for the DNCC as a consultant other than one whose exploits had even resulted in a scolding from the local paper’s editorial board as “a scandal and a disgrace”.
If they didn’t know about Lauricella’s background, then the DNCC is just incompetent — which seems apparent, given their fundraising woes. If they did know about Lauricella and hired him anyway, it should prompt questions about the DNCC’s values and ethics. One might think that the DNCC would take security more seriously than to put it in the hands of someone who apparently cheated Denver’s taxpayers for his own personal gain.

Hmmm…. I bet he works cheap. Some insight to how the Dems plan to run things in the future, maybe?

LOL! Thanks for the morning laugh, Ed.

Are you surprised? Didn’t some of the Messiah’s staff have to resign because of dubious associations because they were not vetted properly?
But isn’t the DNCC cheating too? Aren’t they getting a “gas tax holiday” since they will be allowed to fuel their vehicles at the Denver city gas depots?

What values and ethics?
Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 19, 2008 at 10:10 AM
The democrats don’t know, don’t care to know. What is important to a liberal is you say the right words, that you can talk the talk. Results are immaterial.
If you can pitch your product, service, or expertise, if you can frame your presentation in the politically correct context, you get the gig. Actually results don’t matter, ethics don’t matter, it’s all just words, and who you know; who knows you.
Just look at the required menu for food services.

If I was the DNCC, I would be worried about him staying on task.

Sheesh, the DNC makes it waaaaay too easy at times.

Hey, Barack is a Chicago pol. If this guy didn’t have a little sumpin’-sumpin’ goin’ on, he’d be less likely to provide the kind of “security” Barack’s going to want at the convention:
“Hey, Lauricella – that Morrisey guy. He’s been sayin’ some things we…just don’t like. We want you to go over and…uh…”revoke his credentials” – if ya get my drift…”

I would not want to be anywhere near this looming fiasco. These are the people that want to run our whole country this way. Just say no.

Whew, what a relief! When I read the headline, I immediately thought,..”Bernie Kerick”. Wouldn’t that be an embarrassment?

If he’s proficient at spotting people in the crowd that are up-to-no-good, like himself, maybe he’s worth it.

Rove has to be THE political genius of all time to have set this up and all the other Dem faux pas we have seen thus far in the campaign.
Imagine what’s gonna happen after the Convention…

Woodlawn landlord set afire, critically burned
THE BLOTTER
7:40 AM CDT, August 19, 2008
The landlord of a South Side apartment building in the Woodlawn neighborhood was reported in critical condition early Tuesday after he apparently was doused with gasoline and set afire by a former tenant, Chicago police said.
Officers responded to a fire at the building in the 6300 block of South Ellis Avenue about 2:15 a.m. and found the 77-year-old victim who was later taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Police were looking for the former tenant, a 28-year-old man, Tuesday morning.
This is the same area where Obama ran around with a clipboard for a couplel of weeks as a “community organizer”

My goodness. If the Dems really do get all the power in government, we will need someone to save us from ourselves. Too bad there very few heroes left.

So, what? It happened over 5 years ago, he was suspended from his job, and then forced to resign. How much punishment is enough? I get sick of people demanding that people be fired or never hired again. You will go out of your way to forgive murderers who deserve the death penalty but anyone else, not so much.

This is not the crossing-guard I once knew….
phreshone on August 19, 2008 at 10:43 AM
Because he had to resign because of a scandal. I couldn’t care less really, but you would think the convention planners wouldn’t want to import a local scandal in their hirings. It shows they are incompetent or just oblivious.
Sefton on August 19, 2008 at 10:48 AM
Gee, didn’t Hillary! hire a former bouncer and thug to spy on people, go through classified records (something like 900+) and strong arm opponents?
As a PS, didn’t Charles Colson do about five years hard time for having ONE file like those 900?
oldleprechaun on August 19, 2008 at 10:48 AM
If the DNCC was into vetting, would Obama be the nominee?
Kafir on August 19, 2008 at 11:00 AM
I agree but aren’t we just playing the game by the liberals own rules? Let’s face it, a non liberal can never ever be punished enough for something they or an ancestor may or may not have done and liberals have no problem screaming at the top of their lungs how the world will end because of it. Liberals on the other hand can do no wrong even if they have broken laws.
jmarcure on August 19, 2008 at 11:02 AM
$30 / hour for a crossing guard?!
corona on August 19, 2008 at 11:10 AM
It only shows they are liberals and things like that don’t matter to a liberal as long as you are one of them. Liberals have a far more group and tribal nature than conservatives do. Conservatives will oust people that don’t make the grade while liberals embrace and protect them. Liberals have always claimed; “The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the one.” But in reality they live their lives by “The needs of the one out weigh the needs of the many.” Let’s face it, conservatives don’t really have the liberal equivalent of “poster boy” nor do they ban something like peanut butter in all state schools because there is a single child allergic to it.
jmarcure on August 19, 2008 at 11:11 AM
I really need a job and just maybe I should start thinking of changing from IT to crossing guard.
jmarcure on August 19, 2008 at 11:12 AM
As I recall, it was Colson’s attitude (and G. Gordon Liddy also) that got him the hardest hits. Right or wrong, they couldn’t handle him then and they cannot handle him now.
My favorite Colson quote: “When you’ve got ‘em by the b@lls, their hearts and minds will follow.”
He now preaches the Gospel, with the same single-minded focus on results. His prison ministry is never really discussed by the MSM but its efforts have touched many lives.

I was indignant until I read Blake’s comment. He is right people can and should have another chance.
HawaiiLwyr on August 19, 2008 at 11:28 AM
You can play by any rules you want. I prefer to be fair. He did not rape, beat, or kill anyone. He was punished. It’s been five years. Again, I don’t understand this need to absolutely destroy people to the point they are prevented from obtaining a job.
Blake on August 19, 2008 at 11:29 AM
None of it surprises me. Hell, Dohrn and Ayers are among the left’s glittering ‘elite’. What are a few indiscriminate bombs among friends. I’m sure their hearts were in the right place.
Denver should be very interesting.

It’s not a lot of money considering the Officer was probably only ” working ” for an hour or two tops during the day.
Either way, bad judgement. You dont do that.
