8 p.m. ET on CNN and MSNBC. Obama gets the first hour, then Maverick. Tune in at 8:55 or so at least for the body language as their paths cross onstage.
I share the boss’s disdain for this grand pander so I won’t be watching, but we’ll have video later if anything interesting gets said. Which isn’t as unlikely as she suggests, actually: Warren has promised to “deal with their personal life,” which in the case of his “amazing” friend Barry should mean at least one question about Rev. Wright and in McCain’s case should mean you know what. Note to Maverick: Be sure to mention John Edwards, seeing as he was thoughtful enough in his ABC mea culpa to mention you. Or better yet, since Warren’s so concerned about character, ask him what conclusion we should draw about the character of an American who travels overseas for photo ops with terrorist cretins responsible for funneling suicide bombers into Iraq to kill American soldiers.
As always, if you see or hear anything worth clipping while you watch, tips are very much welcome.

Obama: Talks to our allies, blah, blaj, blah, gather consensus, blah, blah, blah, look inward and ask ourselves tough questions, blah, blah, blah….
McCain: Defeat it!

John McCain is great.
Perhaps some posters on this site may know that I have been supporting John McCain for President when it was not so popular on this site. I hope that all of you now understand better why.
John McCain must be our next President, our next Commander in Chief — for my two sons in the military, for my wife and me and for us all.
Phil Byler on August 16, 2008 at 9:30 PM
Obama must be dizzy after hearing McCain hit home-run after home-run. He must be wetting himself because to face McCain in a debate is a knockout and a big F for Obama.
jencab on August 16, 2008 at 9:30 PM
Best line of the night. McCain is destroying Obama.

I remarked earlier that Obama was running out the clock with his answers. He hates thinking on his feet. He has performed poorly compared to McCain so far.

It is not fair. McCain must have heared the questions. Possibly leaked to him by Rove? I cant wait for the debates. I wish I had the Philly debate on dvd where Hillary & ABC pummeled Obama. That was sweet.

Guardian on August 16, 2008 at 9:42 PM
I dont think CNN will reair this forum.. just cuz how good McCain did.
justinok on August 16, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Sen. McCain is doing really well. His natural sense of humor and his passion about some of these issues is really serving him in good stead. He’s much clearer on explaining his thinking succintly than Sen. Obama was. I think what’s really helping him out is that in a format where he’s talking to someone rather than trying to follow a teleprompter.
Jill1066 on August 16, 2008 at 9:42 PM
Warren announced the rule that if there was more time, there would be more questions.
If there is any controversy, it’s just Obama not taking responsibility for his extended empty BS answers.
Right_of_Attila on August 16, 2008 at 9:42 PM
McCain will beat Obama about the head and shoulders in debates, THAT’S for sure, given his performance tonight.

Sure they will. After they edit his answers and focus on Obama’s applauded mini-speeches.

I am very impressed with his knowledge of Georgia becoming a Christian nation.
Good, good, good line.
Damian G. on August 16, 2008 at 9:46 PM
Sen. McCain comes across as more engaged and energetic. Sen. Obama came across as relaxed and laid-back. Overall, I think Sen. McCain’s demeanor is much more effective. He’s really educating the crowd. It’s neat when the audience gets quiet listening to what he has to say and then reacts with sincerely enthusiastic applause.
Jill1066 on August 16, 2008 at 9:46 PM
I’m impressed with McCain thus far. He’s doing much better than I expected.
Guardian on August 16, 2008 at 9:47 PM
That was a pretty lame non-answer on religious persecution.
hillbillyjim on August 16, 2008 at 9:48 PM
I think McCain is very effective here. My biggest quibble with him, believe it or not, was the commment on millions for studying bear DNA. The US spending money on something like that sounds silly until you spend about ten seconds thinking about it. Bears, in many states, are game animals, thus good management of them means healthy populations, so more licenses can be sold, and more money is brought into government coffers. Furthermore, people go to places like Yellowstone or the Great Smokeys hoping to see bears. Thus, bears can and do have positive economic impact. And yes, there is the other side of the ledger, they can kill livestock and there have been three bear maulings in Anchorage recently. Thus, Ursids can and do have a negative economic impact. The point is, bears affect humans in ways good and bad, so why not spend money to understand their biology well?
radjah shelduck on August 16, 2008 at 9:49 PM

Damian G. on August 16, 2008 at 9:50 PM
Very good point about making adoption easier. My home state of Pennsylvania is just terrible for letting kids languish in foster care or putting them back with utterly incompetent parents. I had friends go out of state for their second child because the nightmare of the foster-adopt system with the first child and losing a second foster child scarred them terribly.
Jill1066 on August 16, 2008 at 9:50 PM
Lovely answer about adoption. Unlike Obama, McCain has personal experience–
Ohh there’s that e-word again.
salmonczar on August 16, 2008 at 9:50 PM
I’ve gotta give’m credit. That was a nice drive.
hillbillyjim on August 16, 2008 at 9:51 PM
This has the look of an overtime situation.
hillbillyjim on August 16, 2008 at 9:51 PM
Why is every Repub candidate so hot for “reaching across the aisle” to get Demo support? Hows about the most ethical party ever getting off thier asses and reaching out to conservatives once in a while?
Texan on August 16, 2008 at 9:52 PM
Other than chiding Congress to come back to work on energy, MCCain said nothing negative about Democrats. Not one word that I recall. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Connie on August 16, 2008 at 9:53 PM
It’s a matter of priorities. $3 Million for bear DNA in the middle of a ware is a choice that might not be the best investment. However, thanks for explaining your viewpoint on the issue. I hadn’t heard that line of thought before and it helped.
