Video: “You deserve more respect from Barack Obama”

Fascinating, not because of what’s said but because of what isn’t. Watch his reaction near the end. You know he’s dying to respond; he popped off to anyone who’d listen on the trail and he told ABC just two weeks ago that he’ll have plenty more to say when the election’s over. But he’s in good soldier mode now, so all he can muster is a thumbs up when someone there calls out about him being from the ‘hood. Was that the same ‘hood Pelosi is from?

Come to think of it, this may be the first clip I’ve ever seen of Billary in a semi-candid moment with their public. She’s firmly on message, as always. And by “as always” I of course mean “when she’s not accidentally blurting out assassination scenarios.” Click the image to watch.

“yeah… we from the hood.”

What?

cannonball on August 15, 2008 at 5:06 PM

That’s ‘hood’ as in ‘hoodlums.’

rmgraha on August 15, 2008 at 5:08 PM

Thumb point! Thumb point!!!

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 15, 2008 at 5:09 PM

I will never forgive Obama for making me sympathize and even, gulp, like the Clintons.

amerpundit on August 15, 2008 at 5:11 PM

But he’s in good soldier mode now

Ah yes…the magic calming effect of quaaludes…

BigWyo on August 15, 2008 at 5:14 PM

I dislike their values. But President Clinton is not a racist. Nor is Hillary Clinton. That’s just a vile charge, especially of an ex-President.

Andy in Agoura Hills on August 15, 2008 at 5:18 PM

He looked pissed until they started praising him.

Not the wearing sheets kind, but the more insidious kind. The typical liberal kind of racist whose political positions are often motivated by guilt over their own advantages, and the need to atone by “representing” others who couldn’t really be expected to make it on their own. It’s the racism of lowered expectations for “inferiors”. It makes me puke.

I should add that when they encounter someone who isn’t interested in their largesse, they find that “uppity” and ungrateful.

I agree… never before have I so strongly wanted to “have a beer with” Willy, then now when he and I could gleefully discuss McCain’s prospects of winning in November.

I think the soft bigotry of lowered expectations are part and parcel of the left. The minorities that whine about being victims are responsible for promoting this kind of thinking. So its not a particular individual that is the problem, its their values. Which I already said I dislike.

However, with respect to your second comment, I would call the Clintons “elitist”, “haughty”, “contemptuous”, but not racist.

A couple of week ago when Bill Clinton was reduced to protesting “I’m not a racist!” I *did* feel sorry for him. Had a “We are all Clintonites today” moment.

Paul-Cincy on August 15, 2008 at 5:31 PM

Because if there’s a man that’s earned respect, it’s Bill Clinton.

Chuck Schick on August 15, 2008 at 5:34 PM

McCain/BILL Clinton 08!!

Now wouldn’t that be something???

BigWyo on August 15, 2008 at 5:39 PM

To be honest, they were very gracious to sign all those autographs for those knuckleheads.

tommylotto on August 15, 2008 at 5:42 PM

Obama has done the impossible; he has made the Clintons less evil and more likable.

I feel exactly the same way! I hated that I was pulling for Hillary and was proud of her pluck!

Is W.C. Fields ??

redrock on August 15, 2008 at 6:38 PM

Only after they’ve had their “Ceaucescu Moment”. Then I’ll like them…

Its completely bizarre. That might be the #1 reason I hate Obama. I watch this video…and I smile. What the hell is wrong with me?

jimmy the notable on August 15, 2008 at 8:31 PM

The “soft bigotry of low expectations” memo is a complete joke.

Why does the fate of the black community depend on the expectations of other people? Isn’t that assumption (gulp) racist?

When India was suffering from food shortages in the 1970s they refused Western aid out of sheer dignity. They overcame the crisis gracefully.

If the Republicans are so worried that over-coddling has corrupted the black community then they should end welfare permanently and let them aspire to high expectations.

Beto Ochoa on August 15, 2008 at 11:38 PM

It’s too bad that they can’t get the rights, but the perfect spoof theme song for Obama’s campaign would be Sonic Youth’s KOOL THING:

“hey, Kool Thing, come here, sit down beside me
there’s something I gotta ask you.
I just wanna know, what are you gonna do for me?
I mean, are you gonna liberate us girls
from male white corporate oppression?
tell it like it is!
huh?
yeah!
don’t be shy
word up!
fear of a female planet?
fear of a female planet?
fear, baby!”

“They” being the McCain campaign

Yeah, they only did it ’cause they saw the cameras rolling.

I though coke was the overwhelming choice of the radical chic crowd. Whatever it is he appears to be sharing it with Nasty Nan.

JonRoss on August 16, 2008 at 8:38 AM

I don’t really care for President Clinton, but it does bother me that all those people were calling him Bill, instead of Mr. President. Has he lowered the office that much that even the people do not respect the office of the President and the title? I know, dumb question.
