Video: Jerome Corsi, Truther

And his Trutherism isn’t the worst part, as you’ll see from the round-up at Screw Loose Change and Henke’s gauntlet-toss at The Next Right. We encountered him briefly in the context of North American Union paranoia, but now that his book’s made him a factor in the campaign he can’t be politely ignored. Like Charles says, if you’re hungry for Obama critiques, you do have other options. Stick with Freddoso.
Update: One good-faith turn deserves another: Jake Tapper fact-checks the Obama campaign’s criticisms of Corsi and finds them trying to get away with some lies of their own.

The neophytes at the Obama campaign created a web site to counter this book (did they ignore the Feddoso book?)
Fox reported that the Obama response web site itself had factual errors.

BTW, the first 90 pages are terrible, but it gets better. However, I regret buying it big time.

Allahpundit,
If you are saying that Corsi’s book about John Kerry was full of lies, please present examples because Kerry hasn’t been able to convince me of it.

Well, that’s not as bad as I thought it would be…but he is still a nutjob. The book has already sold tons of copies though.

Not true.
I tolerate the Truthers as long as they are accompanied by a side of Fava beans and washed down with a fine Chianti!

I don’t really think that’s what’s going on here. I love the fact that this guy’s got a high profile book out bitch slapping the hell out of the Chosen One. It all comes down to credibility….Does he really buy into the Truther/Alex WhackBag Jones/Loose Change moron crap or is he doing it for exposure?? He’s either a whore or completely out to lunch…
Let’s just say that John Bolton rattled off a good piece on the Georgia situation….or the Iraq situation…and then a video of him dancing nekid in a drum circle with a mob of Code Pink asswipes came out…
Well, you really know what you’re talking about on foreign policy but look at the company you keep….

BigWyo on August 15, 2008 at 7:42 PM
Even if the NAU thing is a load of BS its at least plausible.
Here’s a quote from today’s Spectator:
Philip Bobbitt says that the crisis reflects Russia’s determination to remain an old-fashioned nation state, dominating its region. Intellectual imagination will be needed to thwart that ambition: a recognition that the post-Cold War world needs new global institutions
Proven, no? Plausible, yes.
I’ve corresponded with a conservative blogger, Dan at TXDAP (nice fellow), who told me he envisions a union between Mexico and the US and believes it to be a good idea. Instapundit also linked to one of Dan’s articles in support of the idea.
So at least two bloggers hypothetically support the idea of the NAU.

On H&C Corsi said he’s apologized for things he’s said in the past. This has become a huge mudfest, not about whether things said about Obama are true or not.
Paul-Cincy on August 15, 2008 at 7:50 PM
Did Ed post on this and I missed it? I mentioned it in Headlines a few days ago but the exposure of Headlines is much lower than the Blog.
It’s not imperative, just responsible. He’s getting a lot of exposure right now among good-faith people who might think he represents conservatives generally. Why not do what I can to highlight the fact that he doesn’t?
Allahpundit on August 15, 2008 at 7:53 PM
Was plausible. I didn’t totally rule it out myself. Then the SPP ended. Now it’s pretty much debunked.
MadisonConservative on August 15, 2008 at 7:55 PM
This is even beneath rickrolling. OK, Corsi is or was a truther. I don’t need to hear the details. You may think I’m crazy to say this, but there are actually intelligent things to listen to on the internet. I know. Say I’m nuts.

No, nothing I post is obligatory. Even Michelle doesn’t mandate topics on the site. Something wrong with calling attention to the fact that a bottom-feeding Truther is in fact a bottom-feeding Truther, Connie? You seem a little peeved at me for posting this. If a Holocaust denier writes an Obama critique next month, want me to look the other way at that?
Allahpundit on August 15, 2008 at 8:05 PM
No, I’m afraid that doesn’t cut it. I’ve been writing about Truther filth for two years. The fact that this tool has written a book that’s politically useful to the right does not excuse the fact that he’s a Truther. And to the extent you’re suggesting that it does, you’re the one jumping off a cliff, not me.
And I call your attention to the SLC and Henke posts once again as a reminder that Trutherism is not his greatest sin.
Allahpundit on August 15, 2008 at 8:07 PM
This is old news, nothing Corsi says in this video indicates he’s a Truther. It’s totally disingenuous for Allah to push this garbage, but I guess it gets traffic.

AP, don’t be so jumpy. I merely pointed out that every righty blogger will distance himself from Corsi. I didn’t pass judgment. I’ve never paid any attention to the guy – not even the first time.
Connie on August 15, 2008 at 8:12 PM
Saying there is something strange with the samples he’s looking at is still about a million miles from “Bush did it Trutherism.” Yet I would agree appearing on the Alex Jones show probably wasn’t a good idea.

Thanks Allah – Corsi is a freakin’ wingnut fool. And going on White Power radio is a bit much aside from the Truther crap.
Floyd Brown is next – he just said Obama’s mother was an atheist and therefore had no American values. I could care less about what her story is – but he just attacked all American atheists. How batsh*t wingnut mad are these loons? Maybe we should set up a loon meter.
Boot these fools from the GOP, at least Corsi is over in The Constitution Party where he rightly belongs.
Again Far Left & Far Right = one in the same = UnAmerican and just plain bad for this country.
AprilOrit on August 15, 2008 at 8:41 PM
I just purchased “Obama Nation” and haven’t read it yet. But if nothing else, I wish Jerome Corsi well. “Swift Boating” or call it whatever you like, Corsi did a good job exposing “Hanoi John Kerry.” So far, I hope “Obama Nation” does a small part in getting Fauxbama defeated!

AprilOrit on August 15, 2008 at 8:42 PM
You want to distance yourself from Corsi because he says there is something strange about the WTC samples? Why? How is that so egregious?
We may have had John Kerry as president for the last two terms if it wasn’t for Corsi. The man has consistently shown himself to be a staunch conservative, maybe its a little too early to throw him under the bus. Oh, and maybe there is something strange about the WTC samples, who’s to say at this point?
Maxx on August 15, 2008 at 8:44 PM
No, I want to distance myself from Corsi because his idea of journalism is “HMMMMmmmmmmmm. I wonder what will sell more books / get more air….”

Well I can see how you would think I’m defending him but I’m really not. When I get into my “defender mode” I’m generally a lot more aggressive. You know…. longer post with lots of links and quotes and all of that. I’m just casually trying to inject a little common sense into the debate here.
Corsi’s done lots of good things for the right and I like him. I think people who are quick to dismiss him on this account don’t really know a lot about him. I really think he’s a good guy and I’m just trying to bring a little fairness to the debate. But I’m not aggressively defending him. There is no need to, people that know his work will not buy into this weak attempt to marginalize him.
Maxx on August 15, 2008 at 9:34 PM
Lurch wasn’t going to win with or without Corsi. Corsi’s audience for the most part are true believers, and “I wanna believe”rs… not the most reliable voting bloc. He probably turned as many in one direction as the other; if there were some way to measure such. For the most part, I suspect, he only serves to reinforce previously held conceptions on both sides.
hillbillyjim on August 15, 2008 at 9:38 PM
True enough, but my point is that it’s not a good idea to court him as an ally. Perhaps useful tool is more accurate.

I’m surprised that a truther doesn’t want an Obama Presidency. After all who knows, perhaps Obama will try and prosecute the President. I wouldn’t put it past him.
A racist, of course, would loathe Obama (unless of course it was an anti-White racist like Jackson, Sharpton, Barabara Lee, etc).
This guy is a moron, I fear that he has been brought to a deep association with McCain – Our candidate needs to send him packing. Throw him under the bus, whatever, McCain never endorsed him, he needs to avoid him getting a de-facto endorsement. Obviously Obama could use this as, “Yes, I am friends with a couple terrorists, but McCain is buddies with a neo-Nazi.”
There is one person who is hated more than terrorists, and that is Nazis.
Obama has been trying to call McCain a racist, and this can’t happen.

Corsi gets some things wrong there also, and while these are things not related to Obama, it does speak to his general thoroughness.

hillbillyjim on August 15, 2008 at 11:14 PM
From your take, it would appear that Corsi sees himself a crude Renaissance man of sorts, a jack of all professions.
I don’t know Corsi, and I just started reading his Obama Nation.
As per 9/11, most people wanted to hear ALL possible scenarios before simply accepting any one MSM report or “the” official story as it became manifest. To blacklist Corsi or make him wear the scarlet letter because he dared once to contemplate aloud the Mormon professor’s story is as elitist and far fetched as anything. He thought about it, out loud because that’s his flamboyant way, and then later thought better of it and let it go.
From your description of Corsi, he doesn’t seem anal retentive. And as per criticizing his gutter mouth that he since washed out with soap, we have friends who blog similarly with pride. Our favorite Ace of Spades HQ articles would have no value if value was determined by clean language alone.
I do tire of critics who know no more than the one they criticize, yet hold themselves dearly above all others.
maverick muse on August 15, 2008 at 11:20 PM
I like this one the best, and how Hot Air will never report it.
When asked by an AP reporter about the Book, John McCain repeated the books name (”The Obama Nation”) and said, “gotta keep your sense of humor.”
Then, McCain spokeswoman “Brooke Buchanan said later Thursday the Arizona senator actually did not hear the question, and would not be commenting on the book.”
So he didn’t hear the question, but repeated the name of the book ‘in-question.’ Nice work.
It could be revenge after McCain refuted statements made by his spokeswoman (assuming it’s the same one), which ended with her storming out of the Republican offices, and refusing to take McCain’s apology phone calls. Good to see she’s back at work.
PresidenToor on August 15, 2008 at 11:21 PM
I just finished Corsi’s book. He has over 700 footnotes and it is a book that is easy to read and understand. If there are things in there that aren’t the truth, why isn’t Obama’s group taking Corsi to court? He lays it all out and it isn’t looking good for Obama, thus the hissy fits from the MSM.

The idea that anyone can try and defend some theory that is SO pathetic makes me ill…
BigWyo on August 16, 2008 at 1:06 AM
Why buy either book? If you don’t like Obama already and Hannity exposed this stuff a year ago why spend the 25$ bucks….are you going to dislike him more? We would be better off giving the 25$ bucks to candidates who support our values rather than buy a book about someone you already would never vote for. Buy Pragers book on happiness instead!

Tapper hits on some of the Obama campaign lies, but far from all, such as refuting a Corsi statement with something Obama said, and calling Obama’s statement a fact — simply because Obama said it. Does Tapper perhaps believe a statement by Obama qualifies as fact?
The media’s adulation of Obama — and their refusal to tackle him on his many troubling associations — has created a large information vacuum that even some of the fourth estate have begun to lament. They could have prevented it, so in a sense, for better or worse, Corsi’s book is their own creation, like a swollen river finally bursting through a crude dam, carrying debris of all kinds. Now they have to don their hip boots to wade through it all, and it’s all great fun to watch.
