New lefty ad: You know who’s not an adulterer? Barack Obama

For once, Tapper’s search for secret subtext has led him to solid ground. Lest you doubt that this is actually a thinly veiled attack on McCain (the Matthew 25 Network is part of Obama’s Christian outreach effort), see the comments here from Kirbyjon Caldwell — a friend of Dubya turned Obama supporter who appears in the ad — and Rick Warren making it abundantly clear that character should count at the ballot box. I agree, but note well the reply in the updates to that last link:
McCain spokesman Brian Rogers has responded to Caldwell’s criticism by saying: “These people are Obama campaign surrogates. These kinds of personal attacks are disgraceful. This absolutely exposes the hypocrisy of Obama’s claim to represent a ‘new kind of politics.’”
A Republican strategist speaking on the condition of anonymity reacted to the Caldwell comments by telling ABC News: “My advice to the Obama people: ‘proceed with extreme caution.’ They don’t want to get into a discussion of character and background. They are opening a door that they will not be able to close. They are putting on the table issues and personalities that they do not want to discuss.”
Have there been any ads yet, aside from one or two of the state parties, about Wright or Bill Ayers? Ah well. We’re already long overdue for a commercial about The One’s soft spot for infanticide so they’re better off countering with that first. A choice for Christian voters: McCain the cheater versus Obama the guy who worries more about limitations on Roe than about doctors providing medical assistance to live-born infants. Remember, character counts.
Exit question: Which opportunistic reversal is more shameless? Democrats suddenly deciding that infidelity is a serious electoral issue or Democrats suddenly deciding that no, on second thought, military experience isn’t essential in a commander-in-chief?

So I guess this means John Edwards really, really, really isn’t speaking at the convention in Denver?

No, but Hillary is so what’s the diff?

But hey, Baracky has the ‘Concerned Liberal Head Tilt’© going on, so how can you NOT trust the guy?

Is it fair to call either a reversal when you know they don’t believe either? Shameless would be spot on, though.

Of course he isn’t – otherwise Michelle would, well, you know…

Very hard to say.
The latter is more recent, but the former was a little stronger and produced moveon.
Although Edwards is in the middle of his own scandal that Democrats are completely ignoring, so I’m shifting back towards the first one.

I love how the pastor’s wife glares at him accusingly when she says that Obama stood by his own family.

What a class act. Wasn’t McCain’s cheating like, 30+ years ago? Is it possible he been forgiven by now? And the recent accusations of cheating turned out to be journalistic hogwash/Democratic wishful thinking, didn’t they?
Frozen Tex on August 15, 2008 at 2:56 PM
Cheating on your wife has already been declared “no big deal” and “unimportant” by the Left.
MikeZero on August 15, 2008 at 2:57 PM
I don’t think evangelicals are as myopic as the left likes to paint them. McCain still has the solid pro-life record, and he has stood firm for traditional marriage, regardless of his previous indiscretion, something that dates back to the late 70s. This sounds quite familiar — anyone for fake Bush documents from 30+ years ago?
Obama’s record on the core moral issues is particularly abysmal.

You really wanna open that door, lefties? In an attempt to pander to Christian voters?
All right then. Contrast this story of John McCain and the POW Church Riot with those tapes of Jeremiah Wright’s racist and anti-American screeds.
McCain and other prisoners “used diarrhea pills mixed with cigarette ash—or charcoal or dirt—to write lines of Scripture and surreptitiously share them,” among many things. McCain got forcibly moved to an unsanitary camp where prisoners fell ill, just for leading a church service.
Obama sat for 20 years in the pews of an unrepentant hater. Used the connections he made there to further his personal career. Got married there. Brought his kids there too, for years.
Go ahead, lefties. Bring. It. On.

Do you know whose welfare legislation has been most destructive of families, especially black families in the inner cities? Barack Obama
onlineanalyst on August 15, 2008 at 3:47 PM
McCain cheated on his first wife, Carol, after being seriously wounded and spending 5-1/2 years in a POW camp in N. Vietnam — an experience that seems likely to change a person considerably. While being held captive, John McCain was offered the opportunity to return home, but he refused to go until his compatriots who had been held longer were also offered release.
Carol McCain forgave her ex-husband for his cheating on her after he returned home; Carol has supported her ex in his various runs for elected office over the years, and she calls him a “good man.”
McCain has been married to his second wife, Cindy, for decades and supported her through her battle with an addiction to prescription drugs. Cindy has for many years traveled the world working for charities that seek to improve the lives of impoverished children. Cindy became very attached to one little baby girl from Bangladesh, and she and John adopted the girl and made her their daughter. In his Senate career, John McCain has pushed for fiscal responsibility, and for an end to corrupt practices like earmarks.
The Obamas appear to be a happy and loving family, but then, so did the Edwardses — at least until last week. But both of the Obamas sat in (and financially supported) a hateful, racist “church” for 20 years, and both of them are friends with unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and his terrorist/criminal wife Bernadine Dohrn. Both of the Obamas also support indefensible and immoral acts like partial-birth abortion, and infanticide of newborn babies who have survived abortion attempts.
Several years ago, Obama traveled to Kenya to visit his father’s family, who live in an impoverished village there. Obama promised to help the tiny local school which several of his relatives attend, but to date Obama has not followed through on that promise.
Obama and wife both give speeches at colleges, urging graduates to go into public service jobs, rather than going for high-paying jobs. After graduating from law school, both Obamas took private-sector jobs at a large, prestigious Chicago law firm. Michelle Obama later took advantage of her political connections (hubby Barack) to obtain her current high-paying job — as a diversity pimp for a large hospital. In his elected offices (Illinois state senate, and U.S. Senate), Obama has accomplished little other than pushing his far-left agenda and lining the pockets of his supporters with taxpayer dollars.
Does character count? You bet it does. But it shows up in a lot more (and more important) places than just one’s history of marital fidelity. I’ve seen plenty of examples of the kind of character that Obama and McCain possess. That’s why I’m voting for McCain.

Look, from all I have been given to understand it was like this: Given the first Mrs. McCain’s car wreck, and the issues therefrom, on top of John McCain’s years-long captivity, and the issues therefrom, you had two people with too many issues of their own they had been dealing with on their own for many years. They simply couldn’t come together anymore.
Besides, wasn’t it John Edwards who was being touted as Mister Family Values for bravely standing by his cancer-stricken wife—-until the fact he was schtupping that Rielle lady came out? If Barack’s gonna throw that stone, he better hope his house isn’t glass.
