[...] Ed Morrissey at Hot Air (via Instapundit, originally at Knoxvillebiz.com) notes “Another Democrat with a government land deal.” Serious bucks are involved in the Heath Shuler-TVA situation. Even with all of its traditional media, uh, water-carriers, it really is hard to imagine a Democrat Party effort to claim a GOP “culture of corruption” this time around.
SWEET! I live in Rhea (pronounced "ray" not "ruh-HEE-uh") county.

We finally made the big time...

again.

We've actually been in the national news a lot lately for a county of about 30,000. Ya'll might remember us as the county whose county commissioners voted to outlaw gays, at least that's how the media painted it. They really just voted to reaffirm that gay marriage was not recognized in our county, but it was a pretty bad idea to even go there.

I've been seeing ads for Black Bear Cove for several years now, so I'm with SouthernDem on the need to note that.

Not saying Heath didn't use his influence, but this is not reason enough to slander someone who has very conservative values. There are far more egregious abuses of power that go unnoticed or un-cared about daily.

Also, from the article Ed linked, there's this:

according to documents provided by the development group, efforts to obtain the access rights for Blackberry Cove predate his election by more than a year.

I find it comical that our legislators can put their funds into such a WIDE range. Between 5 -25 Million? They can't narrow it down even more. Isn't closer to..25 million?

It's like saying I'm in the top 3 of political experts. Well that must mean I'm really NUMBER 3...otherwise, I'd be in the top TWO!

I live in Shuler's district, where he's hated by Democrats for being a blue dog.
Yes, this sounds awfully fishy, but considering Shuler is pro-life, anti-amnesty, opposes gun control and voted in favor of the FISA bill, I'll keep him.
Besides, his opponent is an absolute douchebag.

Pelosi is enriching herself by providing zillions of dollars in subsidies for wind power.

Schuler is enriching himself by using public assets to make his land more valuable.

Reid has been enriching himself through fixed real estate transactions in Las Vegas.

It would be a much better result for the taxpayer if we could frankly ask these people how much it would cost to make them go away, and we could just cut them a check. Now we have to spend a Million Dollars to spin off a Hundred Thousand Dollars of graft. If we just paid them off directly, we could save 90%.

And Gus has had a solid NFL career. I think he is still on an NFL roster somewhere. Mike Ditka, for reasons known only to himself, decided to bring Shuler to New Orleans and Ditka briefly gave him the starting job. Shuler was just as bad with the Saints as with the Redskins. Yes, Shuler good post good numbers throwing at a tough Vanderbilt secondary but against an NFL defense, Heath was like a deer in the headlights. I think he took one look at LT and said “I’m outta here”.

Gus is the backup to Tavaris Jackson...sigh...for my Minnesota Vikings the next Super Bowl champions...if we just had a QB!

What the hell is with the politicians from N. Carolina? Edwards now Shuler? Time for N. Carolinians to do some serious house cleaning. One down…..how many more to go?

Well, we do have Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr, who don't disappoint TOO often. There are other good Repubs, but you don't hear about them often because they don't do wrong. :)

But some of us have no control over idiot dems from other parts of the state electing morons like David Price or Shuler.

Heath Shuler, a Southern conservative who co-sponsored an anti-immigration bill, PRO-LIFE, was charged with a conflict of interest …

Democrats are winning in the South with conservative candidates while Republicans are trying to be more liberal. I would imagine this is par for the course for DC. How many millions has Pelosi voted herself?

Heath Shuler was one of the biggest busts in the history of first round NFL selections. The Redskins already had Gus Ferrate, who was then and now a superior quarterback to Shuler. But the Skins had a top pick in the draft and decided they needed a glamour guy at the QB positions. Shuler did nothing in the pros after receiving an enormous contract. He was injured alot but even when he was in the game, he did not understand NFL defenses, could not throw in the face of the rush and was a lackluster runner. The American Spectator, a magazine the leftwing loves to demonize, wrote presciently at the time of the stupidity of choosing Shuler over Ferrate. And Gus has had a solid NFL career. I think he is still on an NFL roster somewhere. Mike Ditka, for reasons known only to himself, decided to bring Shuler to New Orleans and Ditka briefly gave him the starting job.

How fortunate he just happens to sit on the committee that can make TVA’s life very, very uncomfortable. I’m sure that all of this is just coincidental, though. Shuler probably cares more about good water access policy than he does about millions of his own money going down the drain … right?

Just about as much interest as Pelosi has in CLNE

I guess a middling career in the NFL still pays pretty well, huh?

Middling? Heath sucked. When even Gus "Headbutt" Frerotte outplays you, I guess it's time to get into Congress and turn on the free other people's money, huh?

I'll retract my previous post. It may get reported, but the "Democrat" part will be left out of the stories. How could I forget that old trick?

Apparently the term "conflict of interest" doesn't exist any more. These folks sure do become wealthy after they get elected. Must be lots of money honeys around DC and the state capitols to make sure these people are taken care of.

The place is so corrupt there is no way to fix it except a total purge.
