[...] Just a couple of weeks ago, Bill Kristol and Zbigniew Brzezinski shook up the presidential race for a day or so by predicting that retired Gen Colin Powell would appear in Denver and endorse Barack Obama. Powell angrily denied that he would attend either convention, and afterwards no one has heard a word about the former Secretary of State’s political intentions in this cycle. In an apparent response, sources within the John McCain campaign have leaked Powell’s name as one under consideration for McCain’s running mate: Retired Gen.
"Colon" Powell is a closet liberal from waaaaaaaaaaaay back, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that he'll endorse Obama.
.
The moron is a coat tail rider who never had much talent to begin with. He sat his fat ass in the White House as Joint Chief and took full credit for the early 90's saving of Kuwait when it was Schwartzkoff (sp?) who engineered the entire offensive.
.
It's about time he fades into the background with his sister Wesley and John Edwards....

Would anybody be surprised if Colin Powell DID endorse Obama?

Powell is and has been pretty much a phony conservative for a number of years. He may have been good as a general, but forget about him in political circles. He's a typical political opportunist. I have no faith in him politically. Thank goodness he never became that hypothetically "great" Republican candidate. What a mistake that would have been.

Its a shame that Colin Powell would endorse Obama for one reason, and one reason alone. Anyone care to guess?

I really hate threads like these.

Some rumor comes out that Powell might vote for Obama, or Condi doesn't say in harsh enough terms that she isn't voting for Obama, which automatically gives people the impression she will (just cause she's black), and all of a sudden, they're the racists.

These are all just rumors.

Maybe they're true, maybe they're not, but people only believe them because Powell and Rice are black and for really no other reason.

For those of you who say "black is thicker than water." Really think about what you're saying.

1. Blacks tend to vote Democrat by an overwhelming majority in EVERY election, not just this one.

2. This means that they've voted against many Republicans, even those who are black (and even a few Democrats who are black when you're talking about primaries).

3. Not all black people are voting for Obama; we of all people should know this as there are several staunch conservatives who are black who post here regularly.

4. This is all just speculation. Why are people so quick to call them both racists based on nothing but speculation?

5. Even if either or both end up voting for him, as many have already said, they're not exactly conservatives anyway. So it's entirely possible that they'd just be voting their ideology rather than their skin color.

People already consider us racists. It really does nothing to change that image when we're so quick to jump on the black conservatives as soon as there's even a hint that they won't tow the party line.

What reasons will he cite as endorsing Obama? The same that other black men have when they call in to conservative radio talk shows? "As a black man, I have to."

Powell can't really see eye to eye with O on most of his policies. Go ahead and vote for his blackness if you must, but don't pretend you have other reasons to encourage others to do so as well by endorsing him.

O's a fraud, Powell knows it, and would be a total sell-out to endorse him.

Either way, I don’t care for Powell. I respect his military service, but he does not seem to me to be a republican, more so not a conservative.

Kristol's world view is not mine either but he is not medicated. He has a lot of insider friends, because he is an insider.

When Kristol tells me the solution to America's illegal immigration problem he is telling me what his backroom buddies want. When Kristol passes on this rumor about Powell, it didn't come from his grocer. He probable doesn't interact with his food suppliers.

If he is relaying a rumor, it is a rumor high up the ladder.

IMHO I wouldn't be surprised if Powell jumped to the BHO train. He is not my favorite changeling

So thanks to Bush’s Affirmative Action, we had an incompetent SecState. Now we find out just how AA Powell was, if he could possibly support Obama.

Disgusting.

Spartacus on August 13, 2008 at 10:55 PM

Now let's not revise history here. McCain's idiot supporters are doing enough of that to prop up their claims that he doesn't loathe Republicans.

Colin Powell was part of the pre-election package that was released to counter claims that a governor of Texas with no national experience could deal with international affairs. At the time, Powell could have easily taken a spot on the national GOP ticket through his own popularity. It was gravitas, not diversity, which put Powell in the job of SECSTATE.

Powell did a lousy job, refusing to travel much in a job where travel is sorta expected. He was also disloyal to the administration by allowing them to take the heat for a leak from his own inner circle. But none of this had anything to do with his race- just like Condi Rice is an effective SECSTATE without any regard to race.

So if Powell's endorsement is seen as a black thing, then it speaks volumes as to how far behind the Dems are from the pre-McCain GOP when it comes to race issues. These days, who knows with a liberal at the top of the ticket that should include a Republican.

I still don’t see Powell endorsing McCain.

McCain wouldn't want that endorsement. After Powell and Armitage let the adminstration deal with the heat from the Plame story without coming clean, Powell's endorsement would actually hurt McCain with the very people who already distrust him- real Republicans.

[...] –Allahpundit: Is there any political figure in America whose endorsement would mean more to Barry O? Impeccable military credentials, “reformed” Bush cabinet member, harbinger of the very sort of post-racial crossover appeal The One is desperately seeking, and a spectacular counter to Lieberman’s own imminent Zell Miller-ish turn at the Republican convention. But is it true? Powell’s said before he won’t be attending either convention and his spokeswoman denies today’s story to Fox in strong terms. I had the same hunch Geraghty did, that someone in the GOP leaked this to Kristol towards some strategic end knowing that it’d be hugely publicized — but, er, towards what end? And why leak it through Kristol when that’s only going to highlight the fact that conservative fingerprints are on it? [...]

Hey, folks, whatever Gen. Powell's faults are, I don't recall that flip-flopping is one of them. I suggest we just chill, wait and see what happens, and avoid making bitter remarks that we may have to eat later. ;-)

I hope we don't have to call him Colon Bowel. If he does come out of the closet for the Messiah must "fair minded folks" would have to be blind not to see the inherent RACISM of this endorsement. Next up; Con-da-folks Race and her stunning non-endorsement of McCain.

I too admire his military service ... there was a day when I would have voted for him if he had run as POTUS. He has been less and less a man that I could respect, If this is true ... I am truly disappointed and have lost all the respect that I once had.

Maybe GOP insiders are floating this trial balloon to see if the Obama camp will jump on it and tout it given their eagerness to have such an endorsement... only to have egg on their face when he a) doesn't endorse or b) endorses McCain.

So General Powell is considering crossing over and siding with the Dems? Reminds me of McCain. Meh, who cares. He could run in 2012 as a Republican. Should he win, you'll all fall in line. Just like you're doing with McCain.
