Quote of the day

“According to Islamic teaching, I discovered, the foetus becomes a full human being only when it is “ensouled” at 120 days from the moment of conception, and so the research at Royan on human embryonic stem cells is not seen as playing God, as it takes place at a much earlier stage. Thus, while there is much that the west finds unpalatable about life under Islamic rule, when it comes to genetics they are not held back by their religious doctrine.”

Some people think it’ll create a miniature black hole that will grow by absorbing matter around it and eventually engulf our planet. Based on my limited knowledge of black holes, they need to be a certain size or they’ll just disintegrate due to leaking too much Hawking radiation for their size.

The scary part is that AFAIK scientists didn’t actually know this until AFTER they tested it.

On topic: it looks like some muslims and most atheists finally found a common point of agreement: annihilating human life that doesn’t pass some stupid arbitrary age. Huzzah.

Darth Executor on August 12, 2008 at 10:31 PM

Figures. Islam is wrong about everything else. It’s not surprising that it would be wrong about this too.

they are not held back by their religious doctrine.”

Islam doesn’t hold it’s followers back from lot’s of things. Like killing rape victims, honor killings, hanging gays, blowing themselves up and killing innocent fellow muslims in the name of Allah, etc..

So when did they make up this 120 days after conception business? I mean who knew?

bloggless on August 12, 2008 at 10:35 PM

According to Islamic teaching, I discovered, the foetus becomes a full human being only when it is “ensouled” at 120 days from the moment of conception

Damn! Allah must be weeping. I thought that Mohammad was Islam’s “perfect man”, so I would have thought that HE would have been much more precise than just a rough number like 120 days. Maybe something like 118 days, 21 hours and 8 minutes? I dunno, more precise than 120 days anyway.

When I, a thoughtful and unblessed Presbyterian, examine the Koran, I know that beyond any question every Mohammedan is insane, not in all things, but in religious matters. I cannot prove to him that he is insane, because you never can prove anything to a lunatic—for that is a part of his insanity and the evidence of it.

On a recent visit to Iran, I was allowed unrestricted access to the Royan Institute in Tehran where, by all accounts, world-class work in genetics, infertility treatment, stem cell research and animal cloning is carried out in an atmosphere of openness quite dramatically at odds with my expectations.

Not anything like their vast military arsenal I’m sure.

But is this “potential” of becoming a human being really enough? I mean why stop there? Surely the unfertilised egg also has the potential of becoming a human, as indeed does each and every sperm cell (a notion immortalised in Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life).

No, no it doesn’t. If you just let sperm swim around, or just let an egg hang out, they’re not going to become human. Ever.

On the other hand, a zygote/fetus/whatever will certainly become a human. It’s called biogenesis, a word you won’t come across in learning how to write poorly for British newspapers.

Um, you’re supposed to be looking on the bright side. If you happen to be a female fetus, you have 120 days–nine years to be safe from the predations of Mo. That’s a pretty full lifetime, looking on the bright side.

While our scientists struggle with ethics, the Islamic world forges a head, a couple of hands, assorted arms and legs…intermingles them with bomb parts…and straps the whole mess to a child.

(sanitary sewers, 24/7 electricity, motorized transportation, and running water can wait until Islam works its way forward from the 10th to the 19th century…)

Religion and Government and Science should never be either mixed, stirred, or combined.

The first two elements are disastrous compilations when in contact with each other and tend to cancel each other out thus leaving science impotent, sterile and void of life.

It’s about when the first movements of a fetus are detectable by the mother. This is traditionally called “quickening“, and is a common standard, historically, for determining when a fetus should be considered fully “alive.” Interestingly, the Catholic church has made use of this standard in the past as well; as late as the middle of the 19th Century, the Catholic standard was a similar 116 days.

I’ve read that historically, the church determined that “ensoulment” occurred at 90 days. I’ve also read that for most Orthodox Jews, a fetus is not considered a human until delivery.

–MB4 on August 12, 2008 at 11:23 PM

Yes,

And, he’s a hypocrite on his deathbed:

Bukhari:V5B59N735 “We poured medicine in one side of the Prophet’s mouth and he started pointing to us, meaning to say, ‘Don’t pour medicine in me.’ When he felt a little better, he said, ‘Didn’t I forbid you to pour medicine in my mouth.’ We said, ‘We thought it was because of the dislike patients have for them.’ He said, ‘Let everyone in the house be given medicine by pouring it in his mouth while I am looking at him.’”

Revenge !!!

And then,

Bukhari:V5B59N730 “Aisha said, ‘It was one of the favors of Allah towards me that His Apostle expired in my apartment on the day of my turn while he was leaning on my chest and Allah made my saliva mix with his at his death. Abd-Rahman entered upon me with a Siwak in his hand and I was supporting Muhammad against my chest. I saw the Prophet looking at it and I knew that he loved the Siwak, so I said, ‘Shall I take it for you.’ He nodded. It was too stiff for him to use and I softened it as He nodded his approval. He cleaned his teeth with it, crying, “Death has its tortures.”‘”

Tabari IX:183 “Aisha said, ‘Muhammad rubbed his teeth with it more energetically than I had ever seen him doing before. Then he put it down, and I found him getting heavy in my lap…and he died.’”

I guess, if someone had poured camel’s piss in my mouth, I’d be brushing my teeth too…Imminent Death notwithstanding.
