Questions that answer themselves

posted at 2:00 pm on August 12, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

Maybe Democrats have begun to tire of The One, too.  Since 1884, the Democrats have conducted a roll-call vote to nominate their candidate for the presidency, and most expected to have that same opportunity in Denver.  However, the Barack Obama campaign — fearful of a floor revolt by Hillary Clinton die-hards — has tried to strike that tradition in order to have Obama nominated by acclamation.  This led to a potential road-to-Damascus moment for Democrats in terms of their presumptive nominee:

[Garry] Mauro said that because it was such a closely contested election, he is mystified as to why the Obama campaign is resisting and even balking at a roll-call vote, according to some reports.
“Are these folks so new to politics, are they so arrogant, that they think he’s different from every other nominee we’ve ever had?” he asks.

Is Mauro kidding?  Maybe he’s still in shock after losing a gubernatorial election to George W. Bush.  Of course they’re arrogant and think he’s different …. he’s The One!  Why does Mauro think Obama wants to give his convention speech outside the convention?
Just to clue Mauro in:

It’s still a bit mystifying to me just HOW the Obama camp can dictate that there will be no floor vote.

Democratic party regulars have to be waking up right about now to the realization that their party has been hijacked by some people they don’t know at all, and they are stuck with a nominee they know nothing about. This does not make for a happy convention.

Obama’s campaign has been so bad for so long, I can’t imagine how terrible their convention operation is going to be. Of course they are desperate to avoid a roll call vote because they don’t have a clue how to manage one.

rockmom on August 12, 2008 at 2:09 PM

Obama doesn’t have a Richard J Dailey in his corner to crush a revolt from the floor. This could be fun.

No floor vote = cranky voter base = better chance Obama will lose.

Yes floor vote = Hillary could win the nomination = cranky voter base = ???

A liberal political conundrum for sure.

Lawrence on August 12, 2008 at 2:12 PM

Well, wouldn’t a Baracky presidency be fun?

We don’t need to hold a vote in 2012, we will just have to accept that Americans would want Obama again and skip the whole thing.

Why even have an election? Let’s forego historical precedence, and let him just be president.

Why even wait until the election? Bush doesn’t want to be president anymore anyways, cut him loose, install Obama.

Of course he wants nomination by acclamation. All of the opposition will be in the designated protest area somewhere else so it will appear (for the cameras) as if he has universal appeal. Though I do find it ironic that the politicians aligned with the “Democratic” party are the ones trying thier best to destroy democracy at every turn.

Browncoatone on August 12, 2008 at 2:22 PM

You see, the challenges we face will not be solved with one meeting in one night. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time.

We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. We are the hope of those boys who have little; who’ve been told that they cannot have what they dream; that they cannot be what they imagine.

Yes they can.

We are the hope of the father who goes to work before dawn and lies awake with doubts that tell him he cannot give his children the same opportunities that someone gave him.

Yes he can.

We are the hope of the woman who hears that her city will not be rebuilt; that she cannot reclaim the life that was swept away in a terrible storm.

Yes she can.

We are the hope of the future; the answer to the cynics who tell us our house must stand divided; that we cannot come together; that we cannot remake this world as it should be.

Because we know what we have seen and what we believe – that what began as a whisper has now swelled to a chorus that cannot be ignored; that will not be deterred; that will ring out across this land as a hymn that will heal this nation, repair this world, and make this time different than all the rest – Yes. We. Can.

I hear the ACLU wants felons to be allowed to vote.

charlie crist, the flaming liberal governor of Florida, has returned the voting rights of over 150,000 felons. He did it very quietly right after he took hundreds of thousands of democrat voters off the property tax rolls and put almost every county in the state into a financial crisis.

peacenprosperity on August 12, 2008 at 2:24 PM

Great post, Ed.

The Dems have so perfected the “Just asking questions” rhetoric, I don’t think they even know now how to honestly answer them publicly. We are all supposed to “Know” so they don’t need to commit themselves to a position.

It’s decision by osmosis and it’s spineless but it avoids recriminatory -ism accusations from their own.

While I sympathize with Mauro and his anger over the Year Zero cult in the Democratic Party, he’s hardly the one who should be making this complaint. He built his run against Bush back in 1998 while Texas Land Commissioner by plastering his face all over billboards across Texas on the taxpayers’ dime to supposedly tout the Veterans Land Board, but really to just get Garry’s face before the public (a face that managed to lose the ’98 election by a mere 49 percent).

Have the Brown Shirts been ordered? Got a neat idea for the acceptance speech by the Chosen One. Behind the podium have LARGE banners with the “O” logo. Shine spotlights upwards to illuminate them. After The Speech have a Torch Light Parade. Have the torch bearers form a fire-lit gigantic “O”. I promise this will be new and original. Never thought of before. People will see this and relegate the Olympic opening ceremonies to childish games. We can even incorporate The Chosen One presenting the new salute to the crowd, who will all cheer in unison and return the “O” salute. Chris Matthews will have a full-blown orgasm.

All that you’ll ever hear him croon:
Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do-, Vo-do-do.

Sits around all night long,
Sings the same words to every song:
Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do-, Vo-do-do.

His ukulele daily how he’ll strum:
Vum vum vum! Vampin’ and stampin’,
Then he hollers “Black Bottom!”
Crazy words, crazy tune,
He’ll be driving me crazy soon:
Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do.

Napoleon marched his men,
Turned around and he said to them:
Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do-, Vo-do-do.
Washington, Valley Forge,
Gee ’twas cold there but up spoke George:
Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do-, Vo-do-do.
Remember Patrick Henry in that speech,
Famous speech, Cried,
“Give me! Give me Liberty or Black Bottom!”
You all heard yesterday,
What will President [Obama] say?
Vo-do-de-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do-,
Vo-do-do-e-o, Vo-do-do-de-o-do.

As of date, Barack Hussein Obama’s absolutely NOT qualified to be president. Why, because Mr. Obama has refused to supply ANYONE with a certified copy of his birth certificate, proving he’s a natural born American citizen.

Redacted Obama birth certificates posted on the “Dailykos,” “Fight the Smears,” and on “Fastcheck,” have been examined by two separate forensic experts, and deemed to be poor forgeries. The Barack Hussein Obama campaign has much to explain on this issue.

Take away the prepared speeches, questions, and other tapistry, Sen. Obama shows his inexperience and inability to lead.

One is beginning to sense that Sen. Obama is prepared to let his staff and the Demoncrates to do all the work and sit back like King Obama “bring in the clowns”, while his Queen of Hearts “off with their heads” enjoys Disneyland.

Seriously, as an observer of life and its cycles think of the 40-50 year cycle of a generations. The 2008 Demoncratic Convention will mark the 40th anniversary of the 1968 Demoncratic Convention which was a riot (literally) and we know what that wrought.
