I don’t think you can get plastics out of solar panels and windmills. I don’t think you can even MAKE solar panels or windmills without petroleum. :)

I guess that’s besides the point, though.

You’re failing to recognize the bigger picture here — why demonize the oil companies in the first place? Talk about old partisan politics at play. Where is the Hope and Change in doing that? Hope that the oil companies go out of business so that there will be a big Change in unemployment with all those former oil company employees out of work? Or are you Hoping that attacking the oil companies will lead to more Change in rising fuel costs, which will bog down our economy even more?

What’s the problem with this when 65% of the country wants to drill?
