If McCain wants the Christian vote, he needs to be more open about his faith than his current agnostic mutterings that suggest he is not morally grounded in faith. He needs to get individuals like Dr. Dobson out there endorsing him (no small task given McCain’s record on social issues)

That's what I see, too. The only reason I have to believe that McCain is a Christian is because he said so, like Obama, and because he has voted pro-life. But he's not 100% on that, because he's for embryonic stem cell research.
But I don't think McCain wants to court the Christian vote. I think he's afraid of losing the Demmaccains.

Very much not true. South Park is mostly libertarian. They’re relatively fair in the mocking, getting both the Right and the Left, but their morals at the end of the story generally lean Right, just not socially Right.

It’s an incredible show with some actual depth as opposed to Family Guy and The Simpsons.

The mocking... that's why many atheists are disliked. Many of you simply can't help yourselves. You feel so superior in not believing in something the vast majority of the world does, like a college kid who just discovered indie music.

That's alright. I don't care if you think you're better. I'm secure in my own knowledge that isn't based on some blind acceptance of faith as you assume it is. Your words are useless and only serve to out you as person who must look to others for self worth.

alphie on August 12, 2008 at 6:42 PM

And Obama hasn't?

No, alphie, what's far more likely is that McCain hasn't reached out to Christians the way most Republicans have. I think the polls are going to look like that until right before the election when many will decide that they can't let Obama win even if they don't like McCain. But until then, this is their protest, which you see here every day from those of us who are still a little pissed McCain's the nominee.

“Vehement McShamnesty Basher” to
“We’re screwed either way, but I’d really rather see the libtards pout than rejoice so I’ll vote McC” to
“We need somebody that’ll break his foot off on Putin’s azz”

I can relate. Though on the "we're screwed either way" stage, I was leaning towards not voting. With Putin going nuts, I'm being drawn back in.

People who watch South Park: 100% - 0%

If more than 90% of the people believe in these various forms of mysticism and superstition (aka religion) and if the populace really votes according to their cultish dictates and if that Bama poll is correct McCain should save his energy and the party's money by conceding defeat even before the <strike>Nuremberg</strike> Denver rally.

The pollster has an unusual definition of evangelical versus born again. Born again is apparently someone who believes they will go to Heaven if they accept Christ into their hearts while evangelical includes a whole list of requirements including accepting the Bible as literal truth.

The pollster's definition of born again covers a lot of the 'softer' mainstream churches where the Bible is a nice metaphor to learn from and miracles while inspiring, may just be fairy tales. The pollster's categories can easily mislead people who use the terms differently.

In particular, a lot of people who would poll 'born again' would be considered barely Christian by others. A person can be pro gay marriage, pro abortion, dismissive of Christ's teaching that 'None come to the Father except through me', a pure Obama liberal, and still poll as born again

This poll finding born-agains supporting Obama would be no surprise, considering how born-agains are defined

I prefer Zogby who is more clear in his definitions

Absolutely. Christians are unwilling to accept anything short of the Messiah himself. Because we all think we’re electing a pastor, not a President.

NO! If you claim to be a Christian, then you will be held to Christian/Biblical ideals by other Christians. It's called having a standard, and measuring a person against that measure by what they claim.

The rest of your comment was the same old "blame evangelical Christians for having standards" type ranting that I'm just going to ignore...

I'm an Evangelical and I'm voting for McCain. Actually, the fact that he doesn't thrill the usual Evangelical crowd is a plus for me, considering that I think the whole lot of them are ape buggie ass cracknuts. Anyone who antagonizes the likes of weenies like Dobson and Hagee is fine by me.

I’m an Evangelical and I’m voting for McCain. Actually, the fact that he doesn’t thrill the usual Evangelical crowd is a plus for me, considering that I think the whole lot of them are ape buggie ass cracknuts. Anyone who antagonizes the likes of weenies like Dobson and Hagee is fine by me.

By that same token, any self professed born-again Evangelical stupid enough to vote for the Obamanation is probably a closet satanist.
