If McCain wants the Christian vote, he needs to be more open about his faith than his current agnostic mutterings that suggest he is not morally grounded in faith. He needs to get individuals like Dr. Dobson out there endorsing him (no small task given McCain’s record on social issues)

That’s what I see, too. The only reason I have to believe that McCain is a Christian is because he said so, like Obama, and because he has voted pro-life. But he’s not 100% on that, because he’s for embryonic stem cell research.
But I don’t think McCain wants to court the Christian vote. I think he’s afraid of losing the Demmaccains.

If more than 90% of the people believe in these various forms of mysticism and superstition (aka religionDarwinism)

No, alphie, what’s far more likely is that McCain hasn’t reached out to Christians the way most Republicans have. I think the polls are going to look like that until right before the election when many will decide that they can’t let Obama win even if they don’t like McCain. But until then, this is their protest, which you see here every day from those of us who are still a little pissed McCain’s the nominee.

Very much not true. South Park is mostly libertarian. They’re relatively fair in the mocking, getting both the Right and the Left, but their morals at the end of the story generally lean Right, just not socially Right.

The pollster’s definition of born again covers a lot of the ‘softer’ mainstream churches where the Bible is a nice metaphor to learn from and miracles while inspiring, may just be fairy tales. The pollster’s categories can easily mislead people who use the terms differently.

In particular, a lot of people who would poll ‘born again’ would be considered barely Christian by others. A person can be pro gay marriage, pro abortion, dismissive of Christ’s teaching that ‘None come to the Father except through me’, a pure Obama liberal, and still poll as born again

This poll finding born-agains supporting Obama would be no surprise, considering how born-agains are defined

I prefer Zogby who is more clear in his definitions

NO! If you claim to be a Christian, then you will be held to Christian/Biblical ideals by other Christians. It’s called having a standard, and measuring a person against that measure by what they claim.
