I believe this idea was to build some type of excitement around the VP selection, and I really don’t see it resonating with the 18-28 crowd (which it is clearly marketed towards).

“Omg, Barack’s VP is going to be (Someone I don’t know and who doesn’t draw excitement)! woo, I must now contact everyone I know and shake hands with people around me?”

With Obama most likely going with a safe choice (not a Hillary Clinton, which would produce at least some considerable amount of excitement), I say it’s a stupid move. Might as well have the media pump it up than a cellphone.

Bad idea for sure.

Don’t underestimate millions of potheads and treehuggers and their many lovers gay and straigt. They got global warming/climate change and gender neutrality into the grade school curriculum.

The time to do this kind of announcement was early last week, before the Olympics, and before war broke out in the Caucasus, although that’s just an accident of timing. Instead of looking presidential in making this announcement, Obama looks like a parent trying too hard to be hip around his kid’s friends. It’s a poorly thought out plan.

How can we determine the efficacy of this plan before it’s carried out? Aren’t you making a lot of assumptions? This campaign is a bank robbery in progress. Obama may still have hostages. We risk much by being so cavalier.

I believe equally dismissive posturing by Republicans is why we’re struggling so much as a party in the day and age of SMS, Web 2.0, and McDonalds menu interactivity.

What you refer to as a lost attempt at coolness may just be the cutting edge slipping away from our grasp. Those taillights we’re looking at are the rest of the world. MSNBC is big on their test messaging updates during this campaign. MSNBC is also driving the MSM/Obama love-in. If they get an SMS from Obama, they will brag about it like little schoolgirls.

Wake up and spill the coffee.

Barack will borrow twenty bucks and forget to pay you back.

Barack will dismissively refer to you as a “typical white person”.

Don’t worry in a few minutes he’ll “change” it.

Barack is about to choose a running mate, and he wants you to know first. You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be part of this important moment.

This man is running for President at a time of war, and is announcing the most important decision of his candidacy, yet he wants us to call him by his first name, as if we were all old friends.

Barack will never let you live your life like you have before, Barack will control your thermostat and tell you you’ve eaten too much, Barack will rob you blind, Barack, Barack, Barack. Lacks gravitas, dontcha think?

Bad move but why stop there, why not a lottery for one “special” supporter who buys donates via a $20 ticket and has the chance to stare dreamy eyed into Mr Obama’s eyes over dinner on O-Force One. At the end of the evening that special someone will be told first, and be on hand while the actual VP wannabe hears the news via email and the third most special people receive notification via text message.
