Video: Batman interrogates the Joker

I’m the only person in America who hasn’t seen the movie but there are enough articles like this floating around that even I got the joke. Comedy gold, at least 18 karats.

Actually, judging from the number of views, I might have been the only person in America who hadn’t seen this clip yet either.

Update (Ed): AP, you’re, ah … the only other person in America who hasn’t seen it yet. It’s a Hot Air boycott!

This just went on too long. One unfunny joke stretched into over two and a half minutes.

ynot4tony2 on August 8, 2008 at 12:11 PM

hilarious. the joker was good even in this clip. there has been stories that they are trying to find a replacement for ledger for the next batman. think they found him. even looks like him.

CaptainObvious on August 8, 2008 at 12:12 PM

ynot4tony2 on August 8, 2008 at 12:11 PM

well I did stop watching it after a minute…. but that first minute….

CaptainObvious on August 8, 2008 at 12:12 PM

The punching, I love it! :)

ThePrez on August 8, 2008 at 12:13 PM

If that’s what the movie’s like, I’m glad I didn’t see it and I don’t plan to.

Maxx on August 8, 2008 at 12:15 PM

ROFLMFAO! “There are no words coming out but there are fists coming…”

They could have added the POW, BIFF, BANGs of the Bat Man tv shows with Adam West.

Too friggin’ funny. Da na na na na na na na Barara mrrruggh!

Swinehound on August 8, 2008 at 12:16 PM

The joke was bungled at first as I could understand what Batman was saying, but later, with the incomprehensible grunting, it was much funnier. And what’s with the hitting? That’s not enunciating!

Nethicus on August 8, 2008 at 12:17 PM

If that’s what the movie’s like, I’m glad I didn’t see it and I don’t plan to.
Maxx on August 8, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Yup. That’s exactly what the movie is like. Exactly.

wise_man on August 8, 2008 at 12:18 PM

you’re, ah … the only other person in America who hasn’t seen it yet. It’s a Hot Air boycott

if you do decide to watch it, come back and watch that video, the demeanors of the jokers were very similar. thats what made it intertaining to me.

CaptainObvious on August 8, 2008 at 12:23 PM

Me, three. Can’t wait, though.

Jaibones on August 8, 2008 at 12:25 PM

Me four, but I wish I would! Netflix someday for me.

BTW that was one heck of a funny vid.

RushBaby on August 8, 2008 at 12:31 PM

I saw the movie.

That however, again, spot on and friggin’ HI-LARRY-US!

Brought me to tears.

Scoreboard44 on August 8, 2008 at 12:33 PM

I’m waiting for it to come out on BluRay.

Home theaters ROCK.

Over.

1GooDDaDDy on August 8, 2008 at 12:38 PM

Oh, I almost forgot.

Last week-end I took my two small boys to a matinee showing of the new “Mummy” flick.

The Tab:

1 large popcorn
2 orders of Nachos
3 medium sodas

Total = $34.85!

And that’s not counting the ticket price.

The big “O” needs to tax Hollywood me thinks.

1GooDDaDDy on August 8, 2008 at 12:47 PM

This is the first of their videos to go viral, but these guys have quite a few funny ones. I’m watching this one now
The Making of “Heat”

A lot of really great De Niro and Pacino gags.

jimmy the notable on August 8, 2008 at 12:55 PM

I LOVE that spoof! It’s so true about the way he talks.

DethMetalCookieMonst on August 8, 2008 at 12:57 PM

1GooDDaDDy If you come here to Denver and live in a box, the DNC will give you free movie and zoo tickets.

craig on August 8, 2008 at 12:57 PM

Reminds me of this classic scene.

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 8, 2008 at 12:59 PM

Hey…that’s right!

I’m on my way!

Free movies and ice cream guys on the DNC!

I like monkeys.

Over.

1GooDDaDDy on August 8, 2008 at 1:01 PM

First line of this clip and the first response was funny, thats it. Then, just like the movie, they went to the well to many times. The first 2 hours of the movie was an “A”, the last half hour was a “D”. The movie is a “B-” now. They should have ended the movie around the time the Joker blew up the Hospital. A great movie went down hill from there.

eplain on August 8, 2008 at 1:02 PM

Speaking Bat? It sounds more like Astro or Scooby Doo, only worse.

Ever considered smuggling in your own snacks in wife’s purse? Not that anyone I know would actually do that, of course. Especially with nachos.

RushBaby on August 8, 2008 at 1:06 PM

1Goo… the snack profiteering isn’t Hollywood, thats the imperialist running dog capitalist theater owners. we need a windfall tax on them, ah screw it, lets confiscate the theaters and have the gubmit run ‘em and send the former owners to a re-education camp.

billypaintbrush on August 8, 2008 at 1:08 PM

Lame after 30 seconds.

MadisonConservative on August 8, 2008 at 1:09 PM

I get the complaining about Batman’s voice, but I grew up watching the cartoon series, which did the same thing (though probably not as pronounced as in the film.)

It’s all about hiding his identity. Superman might be able to get buy with a pair of glasses, but Batman is just a human outside of the suit.

Esthier on August 8, 2008 at 1:10 PM

Someone needs to put Batman quotes from “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” and set it to heavy guitar riffs and double-base beats. He’s a dead ringer for a death metal vocalist.

I hear you, that’s why I told my two boys, “if you want to go see that movie, we eat before we leave, you sit and enjoy the movie, but we don’t need their crappy food and soda – it’ll just make you fat anyway.”

Mean dad I know. Oh, and I didn’t see Batman, and didn’t see the clip, but I did hear about the bad grumbling Batman voice. Glad I didn’t waste the ticket money on it.

kirkill on August 8, 2008 at 1:13 PM

if you want to go see that movie, we eat before we leave

That’s something I mention to my wife whenever we plan on seeing a movie. As I tell her, “I hate being ripped off”.

DethMetalCookieMonst on August 8, 2008 at 1:14 PM

It would have been better if Code Pink burst in and protested when Batman hit him.

Dash on August 8, 2008 at 1:27 PM

Funny, but I thought the batdude’s voice was cool.

jgapinoy on August 8, 2008 at 1:29 PM

Well done! You layabouts that haven’t seen the real movie yet…git goin!

Doug on August 8, 2008 at 1:34 PM

Heh. Old gag. See also the first few seconds of the second part of the short Hardware Wars. (BTW, this short was a lot funnier back when it first came out — when Star Wars was still new and its parodies weren’t so common. If curious, the first part is over here.)

apostic on August 8, 2008 at 1:35 PM

Add me as another who hasn’t seen it yet.

JimRich on August 8, 2008 at 1:43 PM

I am waiting for the movie to show up on TNT 4 times a night some weekend in the future.

EJDolbow on August 8, 2008 at 1:51 PM

I haven’t seen it either. Waiting for someone to go with me to the IMAX theater. My wife won’t go because it maker her “seasick.”

Mark Jaquith on August 8, 2008 at 1:57 PM

I must be one of the very few who loves everything about the new Batman, even the voice. I didn’t have a problem understanding him at all. The new movie was beyond awesome, I thought.

And the cheesy sideways-camera angle of them supposedly climbing up buildings.

jgapinoy on August 8, 2008 at 2:04 PM

Yet another added to my favorites list!

Thanks for the heads up on this comedy… gold you say? Nah, it’s gotta be platinum.

Yakko77 on August 8, 2008 at 2:14 PM

very funny! I do plan to see the film soon, but I got a kick out of the CNN article as well…

apparently Mercedes McCambridge passed away a few years too soon to help out with this movie…

D2Boston on August 8, 2008 at 2:25 PM

Insomnia has its payoffs. I laughed out loud in the night. I haven’t seen Batman either, and I’m glad to have seen this because now I don’t have to.

artlover on August 8, 2008 at 1:58 PM

Agreed. The only complaint I do have is the casting of Maggie Gyllenhaal to replace Katie Holmes. I really didn’t think that Holmes. was that attractive in the previous film. And with Gyllenhaal, even less so. In the scene where the joker meets Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes, he’s acting like she’s a very attractive woman, and Gyllenhaal isnt. That scene was less convincing because of that.

And for Batman’s deeper voice for the second film, you can read more about that here.

wise_man on August 8, 2008 at 4:09 PM

Laughed my a*$ off………………….. thanks.

Seven Percent Solution on August 8, 2008 at 4:15 PM

Oh, and in the interrogation scene that this spoofs, batman hits the joker in the face, and there isn’t even one drop of blood in his nose or anywhere else. If he was hit that hard, there would have been something. Batman wears the protective suit. The joker is just a man.

I think that they tried their best to show and hint of violence without showing any gore, to keep their PG-13 rating.

wise_man on August 8, 2008 at 4:15 PM

I hadn’t seen it either.

Terrye on August 8, 2008 at 4:32 PM

RushBaby, you know, it’s amazing – there’s a Wal-Mart right down the street from my local movie theater that sells the theater-sized boxes of candy (Whoppers, Good n Plenty, Skittles) for 1/3 the price as the theater. And I have a really large purse ;)

Alia on August 8, 2008 at 4:40 PM

We got three thumbs up here and we all saw the movie–once.
My husband hasn’t seen it yet, so that gives us the excuse to see it again. Yes, it is good, no great movie and Ledger does deserve an Oscar.

Christine on August 8, 2008 at 4:55 PM

Haven’t seen it and won’t be seeing it. I’m one of those anal retentive people who won’t pay to see moves with stars in them whose politics are diametrically opposed to mine. This one had at least two. I hate that because I love the movies and always have but I just can’t do it. This clip was hilarious though.

Glynn on August 8, 2008 at 5:00 PM

Glynn on August 8, 2008 at 5:00 PM

From the Dark Knight? Which ones do you mean? Morgan Freeman?(I don’t recall if he is or not) I wouldn’t want to go out of my way to see a film starring Danny Glover. But I would for Mel Gibson, for example.

wise_man on August 8, 2008 at 5:05 PM

No, I mean Heath Ledger, who once said George Bush’s war was about oil and that George Bush could go to hell, and Maggie Gyllenhaal who said, at a movie premier for one of her movies that dealt with 9/11 “I think what’s good about the movie is that it deals with 9/11 in such a subtle, open way that I think it allows it to be more complicated than just, ‘Oh, look at these poor New Yorkers and how hard it was for them,’” Gyllenhaal told the NY1 cable channel.

“Because I think America has done reprehensible things and is responsible in some way and so I think the delicacy with which it’s dealt allows that to sort of creep in,” she added.”

When Hollywood started making these kind of statements years ago, I made up my mind that was it. And I am serious when I say that it has pained me. There are a lot of movies I just won’t see. Not judging anyone else, it’s my own deal, but I am sticking to it.

Glynn on August 8, 2008 at 5:13 PM

That’s cool, Glynn. For me, when watching the dark knight, It was very hard to see the actor behind the joker character. I do recall similar types of comments from a lot of the cast members of the lord of the rings movies. And Gyllenhaal’s brother is in the film, rendition. And If I recall, it didn’t quite make the millions that they all hoped for.

I usually hesitate to even say anything. My daughter went to see the movie and loved it, so I got to hear about it from her. Jake Guyllenhaal, yes, he has made some pretty outrageous statements, too. He and his sister were campaigning for Kerry here in Ohio pretty heavily. Thanks for not giving me a hard time about it.

Glynn on August 8, 2008 at 5:27 PM

I understand completely.

wise_man on August 8, 2008 at 5:30 PM

I saw it yesterday on Imax. I was top row center. It was pretty amazing to watch an IMAX movie. BTW I usually smuggle in my snacks.

gzelmiami on August 8, 2008 at 7:08 PM

Very funny but I agree, it went on too long. The bit was overdone but premise and “acting!” very well done.

Midas on August 8, 2008 at 9:54 PM

I liked it. Went on a bit long but I thought it was pretty funny. I think we should run Gitmo interrogations just like that. If I read a former prisoner interview in Der Spiegel detailing that type of interrogation, I’d laugh myself into a coma.
