How to anger conservatives into action

Try sending them a letter in an attempt to intimidate them into silence:
Nearly 10,000 of the biggest donors to Republican candidates and causes across the country will probably receive a foreboding “warning” letter in the mail next week.
The letter is an opening shot across the bow from an unusual new outside political group on the left that is poised to engage in hardball tactics to prevent similar groups on the right from getting off the ground this fall.
Led by Tom Matzzie, a liberal political operative who has been involved with some prominent left-wing efforts in recent years, the newly formed nonprofit group, Accountable America, is planning to confront donors to conservative groups, hoping to create a chilling effect that will dry up contributions. …
The warning letter is intended as a first step, alerting donors who might be considering giving to right-wing groups to a variety of potential dangers, including legal trouble, public exposure and watchdog groups digging through their lives.
Sorry, but if you think brown-shirt intimidation letters from lunatic Lefties such as yourself will frighten conservatives into silence, then you don’t know squat. Conservatives persevere despite media scorn, Hollywood demonizing, and lunatic protests outside our conventions. A “foreboding warning letter” won’t scare them, especially from someone who couldn’t make Progressive Media USA survive in a progressive-friendly cycle.
In fact, such fascistic tactics will have the reverse effect. Conservative activists have mostly stayed on the sidelines in this election, frustrated by the nomination of John McCain and a Congress that won’t stop spending money. Threats from the Left will convince them that they need to get into the fight just to make sure that the Left’s candidate for President loses the election.
So send out those “warning letters”, please, and remind them all of what the Left will do when it takes full control of the government. Keep issuing extortionist threats to people who engage in political life, and keep revealing your true nature. Motivate conservatives to get back into action.
This sounds like another one of Mattzie’s ill-considered ventures. He blew $12 million in funding for his anti-war group last year, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, and showed nothing for his efforts. He also was involved in MoveOn’s preposterous General Betray-Us ad last September. The biggest surprise is that Mattzie still finds fools with money that need parting.
Update: Brian Faughan notes that Mattzie didn’t do much Googling before latching onto the name … of a conservative activist group — and its logo. See-Dubya and Michelle have more.

First time in awhile I really wish I had lots of money. To paraphrase the president “Bring it on Bitch!”. Maybe we should take up a donation to send his new group some brown shirts!

Besides buying some McCain bumper stickers, I haven’t given any $ to any campaign for a long time. I’m going to send the RNC a check so I can get one of those threatening letters.

Hey, if they really want the conservative money to dry up, just get McCain to start talking about amnesty again.

Maybe intimidation won’t work on the big donors (I hope it won’t), but I have to confess that small intimidation tactics routinely employed by rank-and-file libs out here in the real world work on me. I won’t put a Republican campaign sticker on my car because libs routinely key and otherwise damage cars with Republican stickers on them. But that’s a small thing because I don’t think bumper stickers persuade voters at all. But the groups big donors can start absolutely can and do persuade large numbers of voters. So I hope they’re not as wimpy as I’m ashamed to admit I am.
aero on August 8, 2008 at 9:43 AM
Interesting that guys like Mattzie and Soros have all that money - and despite their bitching about all of America’s “problems” as they see them, all the dough ever gets spent for is to try to demonize and intimidate conservatives.
whitetop on August 8, 2008 at 9:44 AM
I’m not so sure. Conservatives are pretty demoralized these days between McCain and his allies that have hijacked the GOP for their Democrat lite agenda. So-called “Republicans” have been out there screaming for conservatives to shut up and support McCain since he secured enough delegates to get the nomination. Conservatives are being told to ignore principle and support a candidate who doesn’t respect their values for no other reason than he isn’t Obama.
If all that treason from one’s own party and supposedly like-minded Americans isn’t enough to mobilize conservatives, why should the efforts of liberals make the difference?

“I won’t put a Republican campaign sticker on my car because libs routinely key and otherwise damage cars with Republican stickers on them.”
I found the same thing, but that’s why I attach them to a magnet.
The little gutless lefties won’t attack your car in traffic and that’s where the message needs to be seen anyway.
When you park the car in a public space, just remove the magnet.
Don’t let lefty juvenile delinquents squelch your message. Bumper stickers are free advertising.
NoDonkey on August 8, 2008 at 9:47 AM
I’ll second you on that. I live in downtown Madison and am worried my car’s going to get keyed once some anti-war hippie seems the military registration sticker on the windshield. There’s no way I’d ever put a McCain sticker on the bumper.

That’s a good idea. How frequently do cars with GOP stickers get vandalized? It strikes me as being a bit of an urban legend. That said, I live in a Democratic stronghold (Cleveland OH) and on election day in 2004, I had to go to our local supermarket to pick up a bunch of donuts, bagels, and coffee for Bush volunteers. The bakery employee asked me what I was buying all that stuff for, and I said it was for volunteers for a political campaign. She asked me which one, I said Bush, to which she responded “I wish you would have told me that earlier so I could spit on the food.”

If I were a Democratic operative, I would identify anyone who donated $1,000 or more to McCain or the RNC within the past nine months and write letters to their employers threatening economic action (boycotts, negative publicity campaigns) if the employer does not take immediate action to cause its employees to stop donating to Republican causes. I’ve experienced Democratic operatives on the local level do this with respect to Republican poll monitors and election workers, and it’s at least somewhat effective.

Not having a whole lot of disposable income, I have never given a dime to any political candidate. McCain’s getting my vote because of Obama and now he’ll get what I can spare financially because of this. I just wish I could give more so I could receive one of those letters. Don’t threaten me…I can’t be intimidated and I live in Virginia where any law abiding citizen can get a concealed carry liscense.

Hopefully they’re more respective of property there in Montana. I’m in the heart of lib/gov employee land here in Northern Virginia/Southern DC.
The worst bumper sticker I saw out here was some clown with an upside down American flag and something about Bush’s illegal war.
The great thing was, I happened onto it just as the clownbag who owned it was putting his bike into his car. Right next to Arlington National Cemetery.
I didn’t touch his sticker, but I laid into him and he didn’t utter a peep.
I imagine he removed that sticker when he got home.

Although I have to admit to be happy about the “stunt” going on it the House right now.

Back in 2004, the local Dems held a screening of Michael Moore’s propaganda as a fundraiser for John Kerry. The patrons came out to find that every single car in the parking lot was sporting a Bush/Cheney bumper sticker. You should have seen the howling in the local paper the next day!
I don’t condone vandalism but that act was funny because it is far more clever than keying cars or otherwise causing damage.

I had an acquaintance who got rear-ended pretty hard at an intersection soon after placing a “W” sticker on her car. She pulled over to exchange insurance info with the guy, but he did not stop. He just grinned and flipped her off as he drove past. She noticed the back of his rust bucket was plastered with leftist bumper stickers and assumed he had done it on purpose to make a political “statement.” Luckily, she did not have her kids in the car with her. I pretty much always do have my kids in the car with me, and I’m just not willing to take a chance on some lefty lunatic deciding to make a point that day.

Unfortunately, she did not. She was still shaking from the adrenaline and still thought it was an honest accident before he drove on and gleefully flipped her off. So she didn’t have her wits about her enough to write down or memorize his plate. No witnesses bothered to stop, either. Nice, huh? Her insurance ate the cost of repairs, and she was mostly uninjured. She had a sore neck for awhile, but that’s it.
Like I said, liberal intimidation tactics work on me, but only insofar as deterring me from putting bumper stickers on my car or signs in my yard. They encourage me to donate, though.

A little OT. I was in Powell’s Books in Portland this week. In their political section they organize the books by ideology. So there is the leftists, socialists, conservatives etc. And then there is the “Far right wing/fascists” shelf. I did my part by writing next to the sign, on the edge of the shelf, that Fascism is a left wing movement. My small contribution towards educating the libtards.

No, she ate the cost of the repairs once she factors in her increased insurance premiums. 18 months ago, I had a very minor rear-end crash that required a $600 repair. I lost my accident free discount and will end up paying over $1,600 in higher premiums over a 3 year period as a result.

As a maninthemiddle, I stand - as I have for years - with moderate world view.
My view, however, is seeing the far left disappear over the port horizon.
The attempt to silence thought, publication, and speech (and donations are clearly a form of political speech) has truly attained a totalitarian bent.
When they fear they might not fare well in an honest debate, they attempt to stifle the debate rather than reconsider the failings within their own argument.
Now - I have a nice long naughty list for the Republicans over the last decade as well. But the attempt by the far left - via universities, media, and political debate - to create a monolithic mind thought is truly something to be feared and countered.
They may have broken my embargo on contributing…

Ed, If you truly believe (as I do) that this “letter action” is so misguided as to initiate a potential backlash…WHY ON EARTH do you advise them in advance?! Strangely, I’ve seen LOTS of Marine stickers driving around on the beltline. I’d love to know what happens when a hippie tries to screw with them.
Myself, I drove around for over a year in my old car which had “Bush/Cheney 04″ “Reagan/Bush 84″ and one of those images of Calvin taking a leak on the words “gun control”. I had one guy shake his head at me when he saw them, but actually more people gave me a thumbs up.
Now I have my new car since my old one died over the winter, but all I have so far is “Politicians prefer unarmed peasants”.
Best fun is to drive down Mineral Point Road in the summer, and look for people covered in liberal stickers. At stop lights, I yell at them “I voted for Bush! TWICE!”
The screams are priceless. It’s the new counterculture to be Bush supporters.

The most pitiable thing is that these punks actually believe that they are the ones trying to advance the cause of liberty and freedom - by intimidating people who believe differently than them. Reminds me of the way that Obama’s “dollar bill” comments were universally regarded in the MSM as a legitimate defense (never mind that the racist attacks hadn’t happened yet).
The only thing more fascinating than the left’s conviction that everyone on the right is evil is their delusional belief in their own innocence and victimization.

The Enquirer would have given this info.
A couple of months ago I got a request from the McCain campaign for money. I replied with a suggestion that it would make more sense for them to make their requests to Mexican citizens. Have not heard from them since. It is nice to see a candidate listen.

Makes me want to go out and donate more just to get one of his letters for my mantle.
