Video: This is not the Kwame Kilpatrick Obama thought he knew

posted at 6:30 pm on August 7, 2008 by Allahpundit

A palate-cleansing flashback for you from June 2007 to salute Detroit’s mayor of unknown party affiliation being sent to jail. The requisite sadness having been duly expressed, all that’s left is to clear a little space in the background of this image and perform the obligatory P-shop coup de grace. You might be seeing this clip turn up in a McCain ad in Michigan circa mid-October. Click the image to watch.

Kwame is expected to be charged with felony assault tomorrow. The Governor has set September 3rd as the hearing date on whether to remove him or not. Under Michigan’s constitution only the Governor can remove any local official prior to a felony conviction. But Granholm has been dragging her feet because her and Kwame come from the same political machine. But public opinion on this issue is so overwhelmingly against Kwame that she may be forced to act.

NotCoach on August 7, 2008 at 6:43 PM

The people of Michigan are incensed by the never ending decline of Detroit and the state because of the corruption, arrogance, self-entitlement etc. displayed by Kilpatrick, and Gov. Jenny Granholm, both flaming liberals. Yet the most sickening thing was how the people of Detroit re-elected Kwame’s mom Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick yesterday. Momma Kilpatrick has had her hands in all of this mess and was supported in Detroit by Pelosi. Detroit, once a great city is now a rotting corpse that should give a foretaste of how the U.S. will be if Obama becomes our next president.

Tobias2012 on August 7, 2008 at 6:46 PM

RACIST!!11!!!

Obama is responsible for Kwame’s behavior just because they’re both black? RACIST.

We can only kwope so; but with McCain is hard to tell. I mean, this isn’t an issue of celebrity. And if JW is off the table, why not KK.

Spirit of 1776 on August 7, 2008 at 6:55 PM

Despite Kilpatrick’s humble apologies to the court, Judge Ronald Giles sent Kilpatrick to Wayne County Jail for failing to notify the court of his trip to Canada and violating the terms of his bond. He also revoked Kilpatrick’s bond and suspended all travel.

That’s kind of amusing though. I did something wrong, but I apologize! Isn’t that enough?

I live across the river and have been following the local newscasts a good chunk of the day. Carman Harlan on NBC affiliate WDIV had a powerful commentary asking the mayor to resign for the good of the city.

My mother’s side of the family came from Detroit. It’s sad to see what a toilet the city has become.

And so I’m grateful to call him a friend and a colleague. And I’m looking forward to a lengthy collaboration in terms of making sure that Detroit does well in the future.

I am SO glad I bought a surplus bus earlier this year. I have a feeling demand is going to go up, up, UP!

I just went and measured underneath it, and I have room for about 30 or 40 politicians/”pastors”/advisors/acquaintances.

Maybe I should lease the space to the Obamameister?

wccawa on August 7, 2008 at 7:40 PM

Here’s good news, Detroit made it into Forbes top 10 fastest dying cities in the country (along with Flint). Really no need for Michiganians to guess the party, because I can’t remember the last time a Republican was elected to anything in Detroit. Oh, by the way, several members of the City Council are also being investigated for kick-backs and corruption too!
Glad I live Up-North in God’s Country!!!!

OT – Last night the formatting in the headlines section was broken for me. It went away this morning to be replaced by total lack of formatting here on the main pages. It’s happened before, but what I don’t understand is why Hot Air is the only site to ever give me this problem.

Well, huh. I’ve tried to read here all day and could barely. I posted and the formatting is suddenly back to normal. Still, I don’t have this problem anyplace else.

Connie on August 7, 2008 at 7:50 PM

The US is the most powerful country on Earth, yet we can’t even convince Canada to take Detroit off our hands. We really need to get better at the whole imperialist thing that we’re so often accused of.

Good grief! Obama will have to request a whole fleet of buses from Ray Nagin at this rate. Apparently, the New Orleans mayor didn’t have a use for them.

Could be worse. My computer will go weeks where I simply cannot open PowerLine. I have pretty much given up on going there. I have no problems at HotAir (h/t Mark Jaquith!).

No one at PowerLine, their tech guy, MicroSoft, Dell, or NetGear can tell me why. Just incompatible.

I’m in the Detroit metro area, moving from Flint over 20 years ago, so I have plenty of experience with both. i can tell you with certainty, both need to be leveled to the ground and rebuilt. The union entitlement mentality has stolen the sole of the residents. I can’t begin to explain the far away look in people’s eyes when this once great area is discussed. Too many things area wrong and no solutions but the same old same old. The only near term hope is the possibility of Dave Bing running for mayor.

God help us, we need it.

Bah! We’re half way there! Come on, State Department- you have a low hurdle to jump now, get on with it! Threaten to starve their governor by imposing sanctions on maple syrup, poutine and Clamato until they take possession. He won’t last long.

I used a funky font on a post done in Firefox, and IE couldn’t read it. Good luck!

Kwame only needs to continue dragging this out till November and he gets his lifetime pension. $125,000 a year for life.

Monica Conyers, the wife of John(impeach Bush) Conyers is one who sits on Detroit City Council. She has supported Kilpatrick all the way while the majority of the Council are trying to remove him. She is also being investigated for kickbacks by the FBI on a sludge contract and hasn’t shown up for council meetings for a month. Not to mention a highly publicized bar fight she got into earlier this year.

Michigan Attorny General Cox will likely be announcing felony assault charges against Kilpatrick tomorrow AM. The vast majority of people in this area want him gone. The spineless politicians and business leaders have been pretty much silent but after the jail sentence Thursday many are calling for Kilpatrick to resign. His days are numbered but he refuses to leave only looking after himself instead of the city he claims to love.

Goodale on August 8, 2008 at 3:47 AM

If he is not guilty by and from association, I don’t know who is.

I have never been aware of someone with so many dirty affiliations that is not in jail.
