John Culberson’s district includes what is known as “The Energy Corridor.” It has large office complexes that house, among others, Shell, Conoco, Citgo and BP. It also includes major companies that support the oil and gas industries (drilling equipment, exploration, etc.) The employees live in the residential areas surrounding the office complexes. Running those ads here is the equivalent of endorsing Culberson.

Am I wrong in thinking carbon’s comment was about how radio ads can’t look like anything? There seems to be an awful lot of sentence structure breakdown going on instead.

No it isn’t. It should read: “A series of new moveon.org radio advertisements looks like IT could backfire, big time.”

The subject being “series,” singular, not “advertisements,” plural.

It’s a tiny bit more complicated then that.

Series is both plural and singular. Much like moose.

You have to look at the context to tell if it’s singular or plural. In this case “a series”, is singular. “These series” would have been a plural form.

Conaway surely received more than $200,000 from the oil industry, but since Small, Medium and Independent Oil producers don’t seem to count in Moveon.org’s numbers, $200,000 may be all he got from the Exxon-Mobil’s of the world.

When are they going to start running ads about Iowa Congressmen being in the pockets of Big Corn and Big Ethanol?
