New McCain ad: Democrats love a Maverick!

The second ad in as many days to display the “Maverick” brand, part of his strategy to claim America’s new center-left median voter while nudging Obama towards the fringe. He’s taken heat for having a schizophrenic message but watching this reminds you why it’s necessarily so: It’ll take a wide, wide straddle between the GOP base and that median to win, so wide that he’s forced to tout endorsements aimed at one group that would actually infuriate the other. Which, incidentally, explains why this is available on the web only and not on TV in the south. If I were Team Obama’s web guru, I’d have my staff posting the link to it on every conservative bulletin board I could find.
Exit question: Which mini-endorsement here hurts Obama and helps McCain the most? The answer’s obvious. Intuitively it seems like flaunting kind words from Hillary would be ruinous to McCain’s standing with the base, but the schadenfreude involved in using her against Obama is so rich and satisfying that even most conservatives should snicker at it. It’s not really about her admiring McCain, after all; it’s about her being properly skeptical of Obama, no matter what she may say now that she’s in “good soldier” mode. Every reminder McCain can offer in that vein is worth offering, which is why it’s a pity he didn’t use that classic clip of her goofing on St. Barack’s messianism in his Moses ad last week. There are plenty of disgruntled, whining, Hillary-nut voters still left on the tree waiting to be picked. Pick ‘em, Maverick!

“The right to keep and bare arms.”
I tend to keep my arms covered the majority of the time, but think of it – you’re willing to give all three branches of governnment over to the Democrats, with all of the fundraising and power that go along with it.
And you agree that they will abuse that power to invalidate the First Amendment. With the media ironically completely on their side of course.
And then you think a Civil War would be in order? Great thing to have when we have enemies willing to destroy, that wouldn’t be any great distraction or anything.
All Jimmy Carter did was FUBAR Iran.
A weak and unqualified Obama will likely get us nuked by that same Iran.
McCain is a qualified CINC. Obama is not.
So you want us to blow an election in what may be the most perilous time for this country in the past 150 years, on the irresponsible, childish and vague hope that we’re going to get another Reagan.
Just brilliance. Let’s just hope we’re still able to vote when your conservative messiah appears.

Seems that way, doesn’t it. Looks like Obama isn’t the only one riding a unicorn that trails a rainbow in the skies over the enchanted realm ….

So McCain is preaching Hope and Change?
Really? Because in his tv ad he says:
“Don’t “hope” for a better life. Vote for one.”

You can’t be serious. Rush has more to lose than all of us put together, I’d guess. Think income taxes.

I am, quite serious.

misterpeasea:
I am not so sure about that. I think Obama would give Rush all sorts of things to talk about and that is how he makes his money.
As for this ad, who cares? I mean really, if people have to analyze and bitch about every ad it really will be a loooong campaign.
Both candidates have to try to reach a wide variety of people. That is just politics.

OMG – I am still on the floor, Rolling, LMAO! I too want to keep both my arms and be able to bare them if I want to. Sorry/Laughing hysterically
Seriously, I am against anyone wanting to take away my arms and preventing me from baring them. LMAO!

my arms are bare right now…. and a whole lot more!!

Cipher in the “Fairness Doctrine” and contemplate Rush’s voice being silenced, along with the rest of the conservative voices. Not something I want to contemplate. I believe it has more to do with this than higher taxes. Liberals like free speech when it is “their” free speech, not when it is Rush’s or conservative free speech being silenced.

Heh! I’m still giggling!
Neocon Peg on August 7, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Fixed that for myself!
