To a great extent, yes. Some here are operating on the misguided assumption that female voters (especially disgruntled Hillary fans) are likely to support McCain-Palin in droves based on gender.

Maybe some do, but I don’t think that way… I like the idea of Palin because–let’s face it–the idea of “change” on Obama’s end means little more than “somebody who isn’t a white dude”. Picking Palin for veep hijacks his exclusive claim on “change”.

Furthermore, Palin is known as a reformer who took on the powers-that-be in her own party, and would complement McCain in that regard.

And she’s photogenic, eloquent in a down-to-earth way that might remind people of the hot girl-next-door valedictorian/class president, and she’s right on some issues that are very important this cycle.

I’m not dead set on her, but I think she is definitely a net plus for McCain.

Jindal as keynote speaker? Awesome.

I would really love to know why Palin seems to be everyone’s favorite around here. Honestly, no one outside of Alaska ever heard of her until last month.

I do have respect for her, and like her views. But is all the “Palin-ove” based on the fact that she’s…a she?

They fail to acknowledge that these voters might actually like Democrats based on their positions regarding reproductive rights, health care, education, income equalization, etc.

I’m disheartened with the GOP trying to replicate the Obama phenomenon. I guess we’ll see if a politician with no discernible record of accomplishment is an effective vehicle for getting out-of-the-mainstream policies enacted.

Then think about a female governor who can needle him every day between now and the election with criticism.

If Palin is that good at doing so, she can do so without being picked for VP. But I’m not really clear she’s that good.

Think about Jay Cost’s theory that the Republican VP needs to be an attack dog to keep going after Obama. Then think about a female governor who can needle him every day between now and the election with criticism. The media has to cover it because it’s the VP candidate, and with Obama’s disdain for women generally, he is sure to make several condescending/misogynistic responses that will kill him with the Hillary voters. Newt is right, McCain needs to swing for the fences with his VP pick and not allow the Dems to paint the Republicans as a couple of old white guys offering more of the same. Save Jindal for 2012 if things don’t work out, but get Palin out there now to energize conservatives and let independents know McCain isn’t picking another Cheney. (Hell, she’s not even on the DNC’s VP hit list)

I will be glad to hear from Jindal if he is the keynote speaker. Others I love listening to include Bolton, Giuliani, Cantor, Fred, Palin, Cornyn, DeMint, Pence, and Coburn. But if the goal is to give a young, relatively unknown up-and-coming conservative a boost onto the national stage, Jindal, Cantor, and Palin would be the best choices for that purpose.

Perhaps because since gas prices are THE issue now and she’s the Governor of Alaska saying “Drill the #$@$ out of ANWR”.
