Anyway, the analogy fails. Stealing cookies might get you a spanking from Mom. Taking a massive bribe like this will send you to jail. Or… it should.

It fails in terms of degree, but not in principle, which is where my point lies.

The point is, YAF is perfectly justified in mocking his unethical behavior, and hopefully this will help renew public scrutiny of the man.
R. Waher on August 6, 2008 at 6:42 PM

Justified in pointing out unethical behavior of a lawmaker? Yep, absolutely. I'm just wondering about the method used here. Shame is a very powerful tool, but to go out of one's way to shame someone lacks class, to be perfectly honest. Now, writing a letter of discontent to the newspaper or to other members of congress expressing a lack of approval in his behavior is one thing, but to, as I said, openly mock him inside the Capitol is pretty childish. How about passing out flyers or pushing for him to get unseated by an opposing politician? How about something constructive for a change rather than finger-pointing?
This, right here, is why I can't stand politics. Political philosophy is great, but this is not it. In the past 2300+ years since Plato's Republic, we've come to this? Please.

$90,000 dollars worth of cookies, you mean. Anyway, the analogy fails. Stealing cookies might get you a spanking from Mom. Taking a massive bribe like this will send you to jail. Or... it should.

I’m sure many are tempted to say, "Oooooh, he showed him..." Really though, what does this sort of thing accomplish? This is on the same level as one boy saying to another, “Ha Ha, Mom caught you stealing cookies from the cookie jar.”

I went to Christian preschool, and Catholic K-8. I had the Bible drilled into my head, so I understand perfectly. Your statements about Japan were, as remarked by others, classless and tacky, your Israeli comments were for shock value and nothing more, and your comments about Christianity were pure sanctimonius malarky. Not hard to Google them if you want them. Type site:hotair.com "andy in agoura hills" if you want to dredge up your tripe, which is nothing but insulting, arrogant, ignorant balderdash.

Nice tangent, but you seem to be under the impression that my claiming that these videos are not journalism means that I have a problem with them. I don't. I do have a problem with labeling them journalism, because they are not. They are entertaining, and make a good point. They are not journalism.

Can you still serve in the House from a federal prison cell?
Kind of puts a new face on the Dems get out the felon vote as they did here in Iowa.
I bet he could mail in more votes than Obammy has taken a side on.

MM is making a mockery of the so called “man”.
Exposing this excuse for a human being is what it is….
I agree, the man belongs in jail( if he’s guilty) hah…
He’s fair game at any level….

Jefferson should be in jail, but this Mattera kid comes off as kind of a buffoonish putz really. He's clearly not acting as a journalist. Sort of an amateurish high school prank kind of deal. Marginally funny, but really adds nothing of substance. I'm sort of surprised that Malkin would sanction something so lightweight. Something I'd expect from Stuttering John of the Howard Stern show. "Intrepid"? Not really.

No offense, but you’re getting into opinion. Journalism’s first and fundamental premise is to get information in a sensible and serious manner. This was not what Jason did), nor is it what Michael Moore or Morgan Spurlock do. They are presenting real-time political cartoons.

A much better example of journalism would be Evan Coyne Maloney, because he asks serious questions, even if he expects answers that are hilarious. It is not the job of the reporter to deliver the punchline. It is the job of the reporter to be the straight man. “What kind of bags would you use to hide cash in a freezer?” is the punchline. Do you see the difference?

Well, I’m also smart enough to know that your hyperemotionalism can’t be reasoned with. Your opinion of me, or mine of you means nothing. So even if it could be, it’s not worth the effort.

Awwwwww, I'm sorry. I guess I can't be as intellectually dishonest as you. And instead of "hyper-emotionalism", let's just say that I have very little patience for the magnificently ignorant. I'll leave it at that.

No offense, but you're getting into opinion. Journalism's first and fundamental premise is to get information in a sensible and serious manner.

"What kind of bags would you use to hide cash in a freezer?" is the punchline. Do you see the difference?

You’re absolutely right.

However, because you ask it, does not make it journalism.

And just because they call it a "debate" doesn't mean its actually a debate.. remmeber those plants at the debates?

And thus we come full circle. You can request political gamesmanship, and there is a market for it, and you are that market.

as long as you aren't interrupting a meeting or a presentation making a a** out of yourself, no problems with asking questions.

…so when you meet a politician, the first thing you’ll do is ask a rhetorical question with no actual reason other than to make them uncomfortable? You won’t ask them to explain their decisions, votes, or positions? You’ll ask them the kind of things comedians cook up?

CH, the whole point of this is theater. Lets just call it what it is.

Spirit of 1776 on August 5, 2008 at 4:22 PM

well yes, it could be similar to what the "truther people" do when the ask questions and someone else films it(if they aren't interrupting a meeting, or a function, that's normal citizen journalism)
