Video: Celebrity gets out the vote for celebrity

posted at 3:15 pm on August 4, 2008 by Allahpundit

Another day, another shameful racist ad juxtaposing mentions of Barack Obama with an attractive young white woman. Question: Does Paltrow even qualify as a celebrity anymore? “Iron Man” did big enough business this year that she should be given the benefit of the doubt, I guess, but if not for that we’d be in “she looks familiar” territory. If you’re wondering why the Democrats would enlist a B-lister when they have so many A-listers available, it’s simple: She’s a member of the same expat community this spot’s aimed at, a fact that may or may not be known to the average viewer. If, like Jaime Sneider, you’re wondering why they’d make the ad four times longer than it needs to be while gratuitously including a celebrity in the same week that McCain’s used that meme to paint Obama as a hype-driven lightweight, that’s simple too: The Democrats’ ad teams reek. Exit quotation: Was the $1,000 VIP admission to mingle with Damon and Affleck worth it, do you think? I bet it totally was.

Isn’t Paltrow one of these celebs that have denounced their American citizenship and have chosen to live in a foreign country? And we should really listen to her regarding our politics here in the US.

carbon_footprint on August 4, 2008 at 3:17 PM

Just sit there and look pretty, Gwyneth.

pseudonominus on August 4, 2008 at 3:17 PM

She looks vaguely familiar.

Haughty.

Superior…

Nose long enough to look down at all of us plebs with.

Obviously liberal.

Pulchritudinous Patriot on August 4, 2008 at 3:18 PM

And they’ll probably actually count those votes, unlike the military ballots that routinely go uncounted.

aero on August 4, 2008 at 3:19 PM

I thought Gwyneth had renounced her citizenship when Boooosh was elected. No?

d1carter on August 4, 2008 at 3:20 PM

The Democrats’ ad teams reek.

You would think with all the Democrats in Hollywood and in the film world in general, one of them would take the time out to help out the Obama ad team.

terryannonline on August 4, 2008 at 3:20 PM

What’s she been in since “Escape from Witch Mountain?”

NoDonkey on August 4, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Desperation makes for a stinky cologne.

The fact that they even need to remind their base just proves that they are in dire straights.

RobertInAustin on August 4, 2008 at 3:21 PM

Ever notice how so many of these Dem ads look exactly the same? Sort of like some Apple community hugfest or something. Weird and creepy. Know what I mean?

MarkABinVA on August 4, 2008 at 3:22 PM

She sucked in Iron Man. They should have got someone else for the part.

Isn’t she the babe whose married to that Coldplay guy?

Aren’t they listing all the places of Messiah’s World Tour? Funny…I didn’t here any of them list a military installation.

Translation: If you decide to live outside of the United States, in say Europe, yet still benefit from all of the bounties that being an American rewards you, please vote Democrat so that the United States can be more like the foreign country where you live now.

Ugh!

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 4, 2008 at 3:25 PM

No American military in that ad.

This is to combat the “why campaign in Germany, there are no voters in Germany” stance.

Also, it’s more of the same globalism – citizen of the world crap. Liberals love anything foreign and they orgasm any time they talk about other countries.

I used to like Gwyneth Paltrow before she started stumping for Al Gore in 2000.

Grafted on August 4, 2008 at 3:25 PM

First of all, not it is not that easy. I was working in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, during the 1996 election. My good friend, Kim, and I took election day off work. It took us two taxis and a bus to get to the American Embassy in Riyadh and after extensive security checks, we made it just in time to vote. These people have no idea what voting in the entire world means. Secondly, Paltrow gave an inteview to a Spanish newspaper and stated that the English were more intelligent and better cultured that Americans. Later, when that blew up in her face, she said she had given the interview in Spanish and it was misinterpreted. Phooey on her.

They don’t show anyone in Iraq or Afghanistan? Hmmmm…

Well, she is the mother of Moses so she has to get out the vote for “The Boss”

EJDolbow on August 4, 2008 at 3:30 PM

That ad could have had the exact same message and information and fit into a 30 second slot.

JadeNYU on August 4, 2008 at 3:30 PM

I believe Gwyneth became famous largely because of who she dated back in her 20s — Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt. She’s not a bad actress, although Shakespeare in Love was over-rated, I thought. She’s pretty; I don’t think she has done for Estee Lauder what Paulina Porizkova and Liz Hurley did.

BigD on August 4, 2008 at 3:30 PM

“They don’t show anyone in Iraq or Afghanistan?”

Here is the address for military ballots:

Santa Claus
North Pole, 00000

Be sure all ballots are postmarked by December 25th.

Thanks, the DNC

NoDonkey on August 4, 2008 at 3:31 PM

Who in the hell is Gwyneth Paltrow, and why would anybody give rats butt? Can she stop the sun from rising tomorrow. If she can’t, then she’s no different, nor better than you, or I!

Video: Hypocrite Celebrity gets out the vote for celebrity

Fixed it for ya.

Oh…..why the hypocrite label? She’s a member of Act Green, Environmental Media Association, etc.

Here’s a little about Gwennie’s upbringing.

Anyways, Danner is enjoying her role as grandmother to Paltrow’s kids, Apple, 3, and Moses, 2 — and is instilling them with green values from the start. Apparently, it was the same for when Gwyneth was growing up as well. Danner recounts an amusing moment in her education:

“‘Gwyneth was actually 3 years old when she had a placard that we made, this homemade sign that said ‘You are Polluting.’ And we would ride around Los Angeles where we lived,’ Danner adds. ‘I said, ‘Gwennie, when you see dirty, black spewing out of a bus or a truck, hold up a sign.’ ”

After delivering the instructions, the mom-and-daughter team had a scary moment – when the young Gwyneth proceeded to roll down her window at a stop light. “Before I could stop her, she was saying to this big guy in this huge truck, ‘You’re polluting!’”

“He said, ‘I am? I better go to the big garage and fix that.’”

For Moses and Apple, it’s all about compost time with grandma. “It’s a nice thing we like to do together out in our garden. They are great helpers. Apple said to me the other day in the car, ‘You know we have to keep the world clean.’ and I said, ‘Yes! That’s my girl!’ She is getting the message.”

Yikes!

Apple and Moses?

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 4, 2008 at 3:34 PM

BigD on August 4, 2008 at 3:30 PM

Gwyneth became famous because her dad’s a director (Bruce Paltrow) and her mom’s an actress (Blythe Danner). Neither one of them may have been huge names, but, they are well known and well connected in Hollywood. When she was starting out, her agency would put her into movies as part of a package deal (i.e. You can have big name star X, but you have to provide a small roll for Gwyneth Paltrow too).

Nothing. Zip. Nilch. They didn’t say squat about Obama or anything socially conscious at all IN TWO SHOWS.

marklmail on August 4, 2008 at 3:48 PM

Celebrity endorsements, yeah that worked out really well for Jon Cary, didn’t it?

Tony737 on August 4, 2008 at 3:50 PM

Of course Paltrow is voting for the Messiah:

“I went to Spain in an exchange program at 15, and I’ve always been drawn to Europe. America is such a young country, with an adolescent swagger about it. But I feel that I have a more European sensibility, a greater respect for the multicultural nature of the globe. And it’s a strange time to be an American now. I’ve just finished reading this long article in your paper on the corrosion of the American empire (and) I totally agreed with it. I feel like we’re really in trouble. I just had a baby and thought, ‘I don’t want to live there.’ Bush’s anti-environment, pro-war policies are a disaster.”

“Brits are far more intelligent and civilised than Americans. I love the fact that you can hail a taxi and just pick up your pram and put in the back of the cab without having to collape it. I love the parks and places I go for dinner and my friends. It’s a pretty city, you know”

This moron is a perfect representative of the Obama jock-strap.

Also notice that the video didn’t mention Americans voting from Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

Kalapana on August 4, 2008 at 3:51 PM

Thanks Gwyneth! I didn’t know it was so easy! But I don’t have an assistant to fill out and mail my ballot for me… can I borrow yours?

Easy to explain, she NEEDS that SUV.

You and I, do not.

Dusty on August 4, 2008 at 3:54 PM

So next time, McCain should just borrow images from Obama’s own ads. Maybe that time the “racist” card will be a little harder to throw?

Doubt it, since they throw it with such ease, but it couldn’t hurt.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in London myself. I’ve found that people in London aren’t “smarter” than people in America. They have an accent that makes them seem smarter to Americans who aren’t smart enough to look past the accent.

Glad I could clear things up for you.

How is someone born a Democrat (or Republican for that matter)?

Oh, this baby was born New York so let’s register the him/her a Democrat. This baby is born in Texas: “Get ready to vote Republican, little one.”

terryannonline on August 4, 2008 at 4:04 PM

Apple’s mum. Dumb name to give anyone. Out of all the possibilities to select, only an imbecile would name her daughter apple. Gwyneth doesn’t even like America, anyway. She thinks that she is too good for America. So she despises Americans, and out of her clouds she has the nerve to tell us what she would have us do. THAT’S class warfare. No matter how sweetly packaged, Paltrow would be an aristocrat and have us her obedient serfs.

maverick muse on August 4, 2008 at 4:04 PM

maverick muse on August 4, 2008 at 4:06 PM

This is like ACORN Goes To Europe.

I went through the registration screens at http://www.votefromabroad.org, and never was I required to certify that I was an American Citizen. I did not offer any ID or Social Security Number. I used a fake name and a fake address. I went through the whole process right up to the point of registering to vote, without a hitch.

There is nothing to keep a foreign citizen from doing exactly what I did. All they need to know is a single US Zip Code, and they can be voting in the next US election. They can even have their ballots faxed to them, so they don’t even need a real address abroad.

This commercial is an open invitation to vote fraud. We all teased Obama because he was out hustling votes from people who could not vote in Berlin, and next thing you know the Democrats are promoting a web site to help these German citizens vote in a US election.

It stinks. If the democrats had an ounce of integrity, they would denounce this effort and demand that it stop immdediately.

Hey, I said if…

P.S. You can click a button to get the voter registration screens en Espanol, as well…

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on August 4, 2008 at 4:08 PM

Wow. I watched that at work with the sound off, since I was in the middle of a long and meandering teleconference.

So I can’t comment on what I assume was vapid dialog. But the camera work alone was awful. The visual “design” and videography was sub-par by the standards of your average high-school AV club, let alone Hollywood. Someone should have told the cameraman and editor to stay off the zoom control.

Another thing — in all the people featured I noted two, or perhaps three, non-white faces. Are liberal ex-pats overwhelmingly white? I would have expected more of a “united colors of Benetton” ad from Team Hopenchange.

She has not had a hit movie in a long time and went in hiding in England because of her opposition to Bush. Now I have to listen to her to tell me who to vote for?

These celebrities, particularly the liberal ones, are nonsensical, and can not give you a concrete explanation as to why Obama is qualified to be president. All they can do is support another celebrity, Obama: A socialist.

These are the same liberal celebrities that went to the Oscars wearing orange ribbons in support of the terrorists in Guantanamo Bay.
