Slow news day: Does “O Force One” have its own “president’s” chair?

The debate rages: Standard campaign logo or presumptuous custom embroidery designed to coronate the King prematurely? Judge for yourself from the photos at CBS. After a week spent pounding the left for reading too much into innocent symbols, I’m not about to make the same mistake. Group me with Amerpundit, who points out in the comments to our Headlines item that “Obama, President” appears as a slogan in one of his recent ads and that McCain himself offers merch along the same lines. It’s a prefab logo, in other words, not some special label he had added to make his chair more throne-like. Others disagree, pointing out that there are no products in the campaign web store with that precise graphic on them (although this is close) and distinguishing the McCain merch based on the idea that a button worn by a supporter communicates a different message than something the candidate himself might wear. Exit question: Who’s right? (Exit answer: Me. Lighten up!)

I don’t give the Obamessiah the benefit of the doubt about anything. I’m going with “presumptuous custom embroidery designed to coronate the King prematurely”.

katieanne on August 4, 2008 at 6:07 PM

I’m sure there is something racist about this post.

Slow news day: Does “O Force One” have its own “president’s” chair throne?

A King does not sit in a chair, Allahpundit.

How does this debate help Michelle Obama’s children?

It's Vintage, Duh on August 4, 2008 at 6:10 PM

I’m sorry if this was answered before, but I didn’t see it.

Do all the chairs in the plane, or for that matter in the candidate’s section, have the logo? If not, I vote for extreme hubris on the part of Obama. Sorry, AP.

JohnTant on August 4, 2008 at 6:13 PM

This is an exercise second graders do to install self esteem– label their chair with some impressive future career, like “Astronaut” or “Fireman.”

This guy is “Almost President,” at best.

leftnomore on August 4, 2008 at 6:13 PM

Looks like one, JohnTant.

wise_man on August 4, 2008 at 6:14 PM

Here is my thing: No one looked at this ahead of time? This kind of thing was not run by Barry or someone else prior to spending money to actually make the chair? If it was, then no one had the foresight to see there might be inferences made? Same ole, same ole.

Vigilante on August 4, 2008 at 6:17 PM

Can’t wait. This worthless f*ck is going to have a fun time coming back down to earth hell with the rest of us heathens on November 5th.

Can you picture the look on his sulking, miserable face after a few months of drudgery in the Senate, chain-smoking Camels, bored to tears with committee meetings about Afghanistan and road construction funding, and listening to his bitchy wife rail on about “Racist America!” every night?

Exit question: Who’s right? (Exit answer: Me. Lighten up!)

exit question who cares? It moves the STORYLINE of BHO as an elite snob. If the storyline wasn’t out there it would have never mattered.

Thus because of BHO past actions the first impules is to believe that it is the arrogance thing. Thus it really doesn’t matter who is right. What matters is that BHO has through his actions and conduct over the last 2 months gotten himself in a position where these things will automatically move the storyline along. It has put him on the defensive and has cost him his momentuem. america does not like pretenous elite snobs. If fact they like them less than CEO’s and Congress but I repeat myself.

I agree it’s nothing, but that’s why I’m not in politics — because I don’t try to stretch the truth for my clients’ gain. That’s why I’m only a lawyer.

“We want you to stop thinking about Barack Obama and be Barack Obama”

ninjapirate on August 4, 2008 at 6:15 PM

That would be a World Child Emperor. Presidents need to bow to him. Just ask Germany, Great Britain and France, major parties in all.

“Obama Camp” – heh – we used to have to wear satin red/pioneer scarves in communism, as kids. Also, we were indoctrinated in “camps”.

To the “President” on the chair, or not, it’s too late. He’s got a problem with presumptiousness, elitism and pride, based on so many symbols and actions, and he’ll never again be a candiate virgin. That toothpaste is gone and will never, ever, return to the pristine tube.

His reverand Wright was right, and more honest than Mr. Obama when he said “Barack will say and do anything to win”. That’s what got the old geeser thrown under the bus, and nothing else. Therein lies the entire Obama crux.

[unseen on August 4, 2008 at 6:22 PM]

It’s not a huge deal, but I agree it moves the the story line because it is another example of his haughtiness.

And please note, this is not on all of the cushy chairs, it’s on Obama’s chair. From the story:

His chair has his name and campaign logo embroidered on the back top — “Obama ‘08” on one line and “President” underneath. To one side is a small table stacked with newspapers ready for the candidate’s arrival. The table of the booth is always covered in snacks and cheese and arugula paste and is where Obama spends most of his time during flights meeting with staff and sitting for the occasional interview.

Okay, it’s possible I added the arugula paste.

In all seriousness, the Obama campaign should answer this question. Since they pathologically lie about everything, the answer will then prompt someone to come forward and give us the real scoop.

econavenger on August 4, 2008 at 6:51 PM

In and of itself, no biggie. Taken with allll the other issues, methinks it stinks. Just like the ‘associations’ issue. Any one by themself, okay, but you start to see a pattern.

bikermailman on August 4, 2008 at 6:57 PM

Please. Give him the benefit of the doubt? Y’all are going extremely pansie today. The man is full of himself, and he believes his own hype.

SouthernGent on August 4, 2008 at 7:07 PM

You realize that this Obambi has not even won the nomination yet, right?

He doesn’t have enough pledged delegates. The ’superdelegates’ can always change their minds.

Now suppose by the time of the convention, his poll numbers are in the 30% range, vs. McCain’s 70%. What then? Could there be a revolt? Could Mrs. Slick’s name be placed in nomination?

Could be fun!

It does kind of come down to how many chairs there are in the candidate’s section of the plane with that message.

If all the chairs up front — or all of them in the plane — have the same logo on them, then it’s just boilerplate campaign material. If there’s only one seat in the front section of the plane festooned with the logo, then that’s a little strange and gives off a bit of a pseudo-throne vibe that fits in with other stories on Obama’s lofty feelings of self-worth.

sandman on August 4, 2008 at 7:32 PM

Is this the plane that has an “O” Logo where flag of the nation in which the plane is registered is usually placed? Just curious.

And, will this plane run on an energy source identified by The Messiah in his “energy plan” [gag].

Dingbat63 on August 4, 2008 at 7:32 PM

The SeeBS piece seems to indicate that it’s only his chair that says “President.”

This seems to be a theme with haughty, arrogant Dem candidates though. John Kerry’s plane was painted to say John F Kerry–President.

Nice shot of “The One’s” seat on “The One’s” plane:

coldwarrior on August 4, 2008 at 7:35 PM

Thanks, Wise_man.

I had another thought. Suppose the logo is there to differentiate *his* chair from the other chairs. There has been a lot of ink spilled about boardroom seating strategy, but in my experience the real leader doesn’t need an assigned seat. He dominates the meeting and the agenda simply by who he is, not by where he sits.

Put in another way…can anyone here imagine a room where no one paid attention to Ronald Reagan because he sat in a side chair?

This speaks to me to the underlying lack of self-esteem of Obama. He NEEDS to have that chair to assure himself that he *is*…somebody…! I think in his heart of hearts he knows he’s an empty suit, hence all of the affectations we’ve seen over the past couple of months. He doesn’t have the self confidence to dominate the room on his own, hence the class signifiers.

I don’t know why I noticed this before, but why does the story state the logo is on the back top of Obama’s cushy chair, when it is smack dab in the middle of his head rest? Since when do people sit on the back side of chairs?

Dusty on August 4, 2008 at 7:54 PM

What is up with the gratuitous and catty snipe at McCain at the end of the article? You would think it was McCain who was being talked and written about for snubbing the press a week or two back! But noooo, Obama gives “occasional” interviews (ie, spin for very few).

Has McCain only talked to the press once in the last month while on the plane or does he just not use his press section? Even puff pieces on Obama have to have a slam at McCain. Surprised she couldn’t also call him a racist and work something in about McCain being below himself lately.

That is too funny!

To be sure, I can’t and didn’t take credit for the quote – another HA reader said that last night, in the headline item, on same topic. Also, please note that I corrected the years later, 2009-2016.

I have been reading HotAir for a long time but only recently started posting

There are a few like you here. Before I had access, having discovered HA from the Drudge Report, I believe, I used to lurk a lot. I was in heaven when HA finally opened the registration, and addicted ever since. It’s better than playing chess, at least for us political hounds :)

and have always enjoyed your posts. I’m glad to see you making jokes because I’ve been worried that something bad was going on with you because your posts the last couple weeks seemed sad and uncharacteristically angry.

mrsmwp, please pride yourself for being exceptionally perceptive. On the one hand is was the current election pressure, into which I’m extremely involved emotionally, as I abhor little more than socialism/Marxism. However, a few months ago, I was also nearly killed in an accident and suffered intense PTSS, with wild anger reactions to my many short term memory losses/goofups. Activities demanding concentration were no problem. I’m just getting out from under, and regaining my old self.

I don’t know you (of course you feel like you get to know people here) but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been thinking of you and hoping everything is A-OK.

mrsmwp on August 4, 2008 at 8:13 PM

You are an exceptionally nice person mrsmwp, and we do know each other better than I knew until now. I agree with you, that we “feel like we know people here” after a while.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and your concern, for an e-stranger, but a stranger no more. You delighted one soul today, and it gives me hope for humanity, in a time when so much is in the balance. Please be embraced and know that I will look for you here, going forward.

What a miracle life is, often from the most unexpected of sources. With the fondest regards and the best wishes,

Entelechy on August 4, 2008 at 10:22 PM

I fail to grasp why satiating one’s ego on a grand scale is less significant than selling it separately.

It’s about what’s in his head, not about what they’re selling.

It’s all about the ‘tude, AP.

I think you’re wrong this time. Sorry.
