I only have two comments. In the picture used in the lead-in Why does Sen. Reid remind me of Mr. Crachett, and Ms Pelosi reminds me of Nurse Ratchett?

Michelle's use of free speech/play on words renaming Ms. Pelosi, Pelosi Gallore is so on target that Ms. Pelosi will never be able to shake it. I am sure there will be a MSM reporter will take it as as insult and keep the ball rolling until there is no going back.

Why is it that every time I look at the photo, my brain automatically sees Senator Reid in overalls with a pitchfork?

crazy_legs: Even if President Bush called the House back into session, he does not control its agenda. The Speaker of the House does.

Pelosi has not allowed ANY bill or amendment that includes drilling or use of "fossil fuels" to even reach the floor for a vote. She knows that members of her own party had already begun to defect from her marching orders, and she knew that she would lose on an up-and-down vote.

I suggest that she peddle her book and her "save the planet" message on a world tour that includes China, India, Russia, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and so forth. She can take Al Gore with her for amoral support.

Is Pelosi traveling on the taxpayers' dime with the jet she comandeered as part of her "right" as Speaker in order to promote her book and campaign in the process? Is there any way to find out?

How about the Dems using this recess to campaign in their districts? Are they using the perks of their government-leased and fueled vehicles during this interim?

If the answer is yes to either of these points, the electorate could be roused to even further heights of fury.

Its not gas all my neighbors are pissed off about. Its HOME HEATING OIL and gas. And we all agree, the moment the democrat party gets behind drilling and that news is announced, the price will drop to $30 a barrel overnight, because the speculators will bail out or lose their shirts.

This didn’t just happen. Gas has been over 2 bucks for a couple of years. When did it just become a problem which needs solving in the next 3 months?

Where did I say it needed solving in the next three months? What I'm saying is that it's really disturbing to see our side wanting to parley this into some kind of electoral triumph. That's what Democrats do, and it's what they're trying to do now.

Yes, this is a problem that's been going on since the late 70's. Where has partisan bickering gotten us in that time? Gas that went from $2.00 to over $4.00 in two years. That worked out really well, didn't it?

So given the choice between the possibility of working this out, clearing up the red tape, and start really cranking out domestic oil (which would have an immediate and dramatic effect on prices), or dragging it out until November for political advantage, which would you choose?

Personally, I love what the GOP House guys are doing. This is a problem that has been tied to politics for too long, and they're demonstrating that very effectively. You can't ask for a better demonstration than Nancy Botoxi shutting down all debate and then jetting off on her book tour. The House GOP staying behind is the icing on the cake. But this is too important to keep as a partisan issue. Why?
1) It is a national security issue.
2) The economy is strong, but it's not robust enough to withstand the beating it's taking in all setors from artificially high oil prices. My wife and I are spending $200 per week on groceries where just a year ago we were spending half to two-thirds that.
3) I simply don't trust an overwhealmingly Dem congress and an Obama executive branch to do the right thing. If we can do it before the election, that takes that possibility away. I think that the House GOP-ers can snipe enough Blue Dogs to make this happen if Botoxi opens it up for debate and voting.

I do agree that the ethanol boondoggle has to end as well.

Yes, aside from the economic havoc it’s wreaking, you are exactly right. Which, again, is why we need to set aside the partisan crap and political advantage to solve the problem.

crazy_legs on August 4, 2008 at 4:04 PM
This didn't just happen. Gas has been over 2 bucks for a couple of years. When did it just become a problem which needs solving in the next 3 months? Making noise about it is fine, but I'm always suspicious of quick fix solutions to sooth the savage beast. Also, at some point the ethanol boondoggle has to stop. By now, everyone rcognizes how destructive and ineffective it is. Will we have a better chance of dumping it, when the time comes, with a donk or GOP Congressional majority? Sensible long term programs and deletion of those which are harmful aren't going to happen with the donks holding a majority. I'm not even sure about the pubbies, given their love for pork, but it's all we've got at this point.

I hesitate to believe - they are politicians, after all - but perhaps, just perhaps, there are a few of them out there who understand the concept of "We, the People, ..." and are listening to their constituents.

Those involved in leading this, er, standoff ... I suspect we should keep our eye on these folks. They appear to be doing and not just talking.

You might want to remember I said this was a “fine letter.” I’m a conservative. I’m not a liberal. I’m also not stupid, and it’s just stupid and juvenile to refer to Democrats as a noun when the term is supposed to be an adjective.

That's where you're confused. It's not supposed to be an adjective. It simply refers to the name of the party in the majority. They are Democrats, therefore it is a Democrat majority ... not a democratic majority.
