Hot Air -- get your fill

You’re not banned, take 2

A week ago, Allahpundit informed Hot Air commenters that suddenly found themselves locked out of their accounts that a software upgrade had caused the problem, and not a surge of banning activity from your friendly Hot Air bloggers.  We’ve continued to get e-mail from some commenters suggesting that the issues have continued through this weekend.  If for some reason you’re not able to comment, try clearing your browser cache and then your existing Hot Air cookie.  The software upgrade has probably made it obsolete.

If that doesn’t work …. we can always blame Sitemeter.

you know the trouble started for me after I clicked “remember me” on word press… but I have not had any issue since the first day it happened, which I think was friday. thanks for the heads up.

Yea, sure Ed.

I always use “there’s a system problem” when I want some slack time too.

My dad always had a good solution when something didn’t work: “Just cuss it in”. It is amazing how often that’s all it took.

Run away! Run away!

fossten on August 3, 2008 at 10:41 AM

That must be me. I just cleared about ten old Hot Air cookies out of my cache. Let’s see if this works.

Tinian on August 3, 2008 at 10:53 AM

I struggled with the Sitemeter incident late Friday night/Saturday morning, once fearing that I was spreading a malware/worm amongst my regular blog friends, by way of a spambot comment to a ‘Congratulations Rush’ post I’d put up on my blog, Friday.

Was I ever, ever glad that it was a non-problem with Sitemeter after all!

localmalcontent on August 3, 2008 at 10:53 AM

Not just you, Carl — we’ve been getting quite a few of these e-mails. And we want to know when problems exist, so thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the response (offline and on). May the glitches be few!

BobH on August 3, 2008 at 11:02 AM

try clearing your browser cache and then your existing Hot Air cookie. The software upgrade has probably made it obsolete.

Just a suggestion. It might be helpful if you add a simple 1, 2, 3, instruction on how to do that. Not everybody that uses a computer understands the language. In my experience, those that don’t generally won’t ask.

Texas Gal on August 3, 2008 at 11:02 AM

While we’re offering suggestions, I suggest HA ease up on the “Hmmmmm” and “Dude” usage instead of actual descriptive titles. It’s getting a bit overused and it makes it impossible to know what the article is about before I click. Just asking for a little more professional courtesy.

fossten on August 3, 2008 at 11:06 AM

becki51758 on August 3, 2008 at 11:07 AM

I had to do an explicit log out/log in a week or so ago. A nuisance, no more. The problem showed up on several blogs, and (as I recall) at least twice.

fossten on August 3, 2008 at 11:50 AM

Frankly, I really miss the Captain’s Quarters blog. From that platform, my news aggregator was able to pick up enough of each story to tell me whether to follow the link. Now, under Hot Air, I’m lucky to get so much as a short phrase, which rarely provides anything useful. As a result, I miss most of what Ed has to say, because I don’t see any reason to click through in the short snippets that are displayed.

It’s a shame, because I usually find his insights enlightening. However, I’m not willing to play the game of having to click through to the site for each entry just to see whether it’s of interest.

On the whole, moving to Hot Air was a negative move for Ed from my perspective.

sorry that was supposed to be 5% but it made it more funny with the typo… here’s my site stats from today..

972 48.60% MSIE 7.0
451 22.55% MSIE 6.0
300 15.00% Firefox 2.0.0
193 9.65% Safari 1.2
59 2.95% Firefox 3.0.1
19 0.95% Firefox 3.0
3 0.15% Mozilla 5.0
3 0.15% Netscape 8.0.3

so I was off by 4% but still… now you see why it’s better to hack the popular browser… if everyone used your browser it would be you they were gunning for…

Kaptain Amerika on August 3, 2008 at 11:53 AM

Amen, Texasgal, I still think the computer is magic. And no, I don’t want anyone to explain it to me. There is so little mystery in life anymore, please let me have this.

…And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, “O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that with it Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits, in Thy mercy.” And the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats and large chu… [At this point, the friar is urged by Brother Maynard to "skip a bit, brother"]… And the Lord spake, saying, “First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.” Amen

Why blame Sitemeter? Blame Canada.

Sekhmet on August 3, 2008 at 12:49 PM

I confess I assumed I was banned from HotAir when I couldn’t login.

I have only had a password yanked once. After that site banned a brilliant friend within minutes of his first post I was honored to be banned

To be banned at HotAir is different. HotAir disects all comers. It would be horrible to voiceless to the addictive arguments.

Was this a way to cull the weak?

********************QUESTION*****************
Yesterday I couldn’t even OPEN HotAir. Got an error “Internet Explorer can’t open site: HotAir”. I didn’t think much of it until I couldn’t open Michele’s blog and got same message. Other pages like Drudge, Townhall, etc. opened fine. I even tried it from another computer- same thing. I’ve never seen or gotten this type of message before anywhere. Was it another glitch that coincidentally occurred on these 2 related sites or was there something targeted going on?

NightmareOnKStreet on August 3, 2008 at 3:47 PM

sorry didn’t see this before I asked my question. Thanks anyway.

Starting yesterday, Sitemeter has caused thousands of blogs to fail in Internet Explorer 7 for some reason. Both Hot Air and Michelle Malkin sites have been affected.

NightmareOnKStreet on August 3, 2008 at 4:05 PM

Alphie, this one is just for you amigo.

I personally believe the technical problems are part of the Vast Right Wing conspiracy to control people through the internet. I’ve taken to wearing welding goggles ala Riddick with my metal lined hat to protect myself from images and flashing text which could otherwise program me to become a drooling idiot.

I also have it on good authority from a friend that the sitemeter changes are actually tracking our website activity and allowing Hot Air to take over our computers and create a block to prevent us from viewing sites which speak truth to power.

I’ve also recently reviewed my investment portfolio, and decided that I should increase my holdings in canned food and shotgun shells.

I believe I am prepared, as well as can be, for the coming oil company financed overthrow of civilization in favor of an Orwellian nightmare in which we are all slaves to the corporation.
