Audio: This is not the Ludacris that Barack Obama thought he knew; Update: Obama spokesman condemns

It hasn’t gained enough critical media mass yet to warrant the pro forma denunciatory campaign statement, but the week is still young. Lyrics are available in the YouTube sidebar; the allusion to McCain being paralyzed is a nice touch, but for sheer political dynamite it’s hard to beat dropping the B-bomb on America’s most famously aggrieved victim of sexism. Look for Obama to declare it “troubling” when finally asked, even though it’s par for the course for this particular problematic acquaintance. Note to Wright and Pfleger: Shove over and make room under the bus.

Exit question: How does this stack up with the New Yorker cover? Both were created with an eye to defending Obama, both can be used by his political opponents against him (at least, in the New Yorker’s case, among dullards unable to grasp satire). I’m guessing that whereas the magazine was squarely blamed for Covergate, Ludacris will plead authenticity and be duly absolved.

Update: And so it came to be that the denunciatory campaign statement was issued, and the people rejoiced.

Barack Obama’s campaign spokesman Bill Burton sends this statement to The Brody File

“As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism, and degrading images that he doesn’t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual he should be ashamed of these lyrics.”

Update: Welcome, Marc Ambinder readers, to a post in which I supposedly “go crazy.”

Let’s see if O’Reilly talks about this or will he continue to suck up to Obama.

jencab on July 30, 2008 at 11:04 AM

I’m still looking for signs of intelligent life among the Obama love-slaves.

Slogans are a ludicrous way to guide one’s life.

onlineanalyst on July 30, 2008 at 11:09 AM

there are several rep songs out there now that mention Obama

jp on July 30, 2008 at 11:10 AM

This is just pathetic.

warrenmr on July 30, 2008 at 11:10 AM

It’s comforting just knowing that somebody called Ludacris is part of the US Presidential elections.

JiangxiDad on July 30, 2008 at 11:17 AM

What a waste of a great beat.

VolMagic on July 30, 2008 at 11:18 AM

This is great. I hope it gets played on every TV and radio station. Can you imagine AFTER he is elected?

Star20 on July 30, 2008 at 11:18 AM

Let’s see, there is Will.i.am, there is Nas, and now there is now Ludacris.

It’s official, Obama is the new fad. If there is one positive thing out of this (i.e. the hysteria of Obama worship in these songs) is that they are encouraging people to go out and vote. It’s better than the alternative in rap nowadays, that is, “smokin trees and robbing people.”

DanStark on July 30, 2008 at 11:19 AM

How does this stack up with the New Yorker cover? . . . . I’m guessing that whereas the magazine was squarely blamed for Covergate, Ludacris will plead authenticity and be duly absolved.

I’m guessing that we pale-skinned types can’t take advantage of the “authenticity” excuse . . . er, defense.

His remark about Hillary actually is a reflection of how blacks as a whole feel about her at this point and what they have being saying about her over the past 6 months.

Lennie on July 30, 2008 at 11:21 AM

Beautiful! I wonder if Hail to The Chief will be replaced with a Rap Tribute to the Great and Glorious Leader once elected…

sabbott on July 30, 2008 at 11:22 AM

“Vote or die, muthaf***a.”

Yeah, that one worked well.

Rhinoboy on July 30, 2008 at 11:25 AM

If, somehow, Barry doesn’t win the presidency, there is going to be a large segment of our society that won’t be able to process that information. It will totally eclipse the phenomenon that we saw in 2000 & 2004 and it won’t be pretty.

thegreatbeast on July 30, 2008 at 11:29 AM

I’m in agreement that by the end of the week every voting American should have heard this. Perform it at the convention! (and yes Bill Oh will continue to suck up – a “factor investigation” shows Obama does NOT want to paint the White House black, says Bill)

Marcus on July 30, 2008 at 11:29 AM

this is going to get real ugly should O not win.

Is Obama listening to his friend?

the threats ain’t fazing us, the nooses or the jokes
so get off your ass, black people, it’s time to get out and vote!

My God, Obama has not been threatened by anyone. When will this stuff die? The only people who have even mentioned that sort of stuff are gay artists too much in love with him. And I mean that literally.

emailnuevo on July 30, 2008 at 11:41 AM

I thought BO had offically named his campaign “Ludacris.”

VikingGoneWild on July 30, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Sounds like Ludacris is jockeying for a position on Obama’s cabinet. Maybe secretary of education…?

Tony737 on July 30, 2008 at 12:10 PM

The best part is that these these effing dopes think they are helping Bin Obama when they do this stuff.

It’s like when your buddy from college shows up at your house 10 years later, drunk, still wearing that baseball cap backwards, driving a beat up car with empties rattling around in the back asking you to come to a kegger tonight….and you just happen to be hosting a birthday party for your 2nd kid, and your inlaws are over..with their kids…and your wife is giving you “that” look.

I agree. The Obama people are so fervent that I don’t think they would be willing to accept the legitimacy of a loss unless it was a McCain blowout. I think if we have any irregularities in the 2008 elections and McCain ends up winning, blood will spill in the streets. I’m going to be crossing my fingers big-time on Election Day. Hopefully the Voter ID laws passed in many states and other ballot security measures will help keep some of the Democrats’ illegal voters out of the polls this year.

I apologize if it was insulting to you, Michelle, and HA in general and I will refrain from mentioning it again as I really enjoy being a HA member and do not want to be banned.

I was merely stating my opinion on what I believe is a strong possiblity of what may occur should Obama lose his bid to become POTUS. My comment wasn’t meant to be racial, offensive, or tarnish HA’s reputation, again I apologize if it was taken that way and I will refrain from such comments in the future.

Obama has been attending his concerts, front seat with his children for twenty years and has never heard language like that.

Inartful and not well nuanced.

gxpgxp on July 30, 2008 at 12:46 PM

Ludacris may end up headed toward the same place that everyone else who tried doing something stupid for B.O. went…….under the bus

pilamaye on July 30, 2008 at 12:47 PM

Holy crap. Guys like Ludacris will be calling Obama an Uncle Tom within weeks of his inauguration. It’s going to be a laugh riot when the black folks find out just how they have been played by this campaign.

One commenter at YouTube said McCain should play this clip in all battleground states.

I say play it to all the “bitter gun-and-Bible-clingers” Obama talked about before.

Obama wanted a “conversation on race.” By November, he’s going to wish he never asked for it.

Jim Treacher on July 30, 2008 at 2:02 PM

Funny song. Obama won’t be “troubled”. Instead he’ll take the “young people expressing themselves” angle.

AlexB on July 30, 2008 at 2:10 PM

Great….I guess that is what America is turning into.

The government subsidises ignorant ghetto steet people and ignorant migrant peasants. And the politicians can’t understand the dumbing down of America.

Ignorant+Ignorant = really ignorant. If we spend billions more, we might might be able get some of them part way up the learning curve. Until then, don’t expect much out of the voting public.

“A talented what? I know Obama is full of it, but this is going too far.”

He’s “talented” at penning inane “lyrics” and chanting them in the same way to the same beat as tens of thousands of similar songs, that have been written to a rap beat in the past 30+ years rap has been around.

It takes no more “talent” than a toddler using the potty properly for the first time.
