Barack Obama believes that rising gas prices require real change. He is fully prepared to put you in smaller cars. Hold your objections, SUV drivers - he’s also fully prepared to personally eat your children.
emailnuevo on July 29, 2008 at 8:56 PM

You were riding on strong ignorance there until the last sentence where you simply became a clown. McCain wanted a gas tax holiday for Christ's sake! A holiday but not a complete repeal? McCain is tied at the waist with Hunt Oil, Inc. Why do you suppose he likes drilling so much as opposed to alternative sources, forcing caps on speculators similar to the caps we have on the DOW/NASDAQ and requiring manufacturers to better their mileage output similar to Japan?

Hmmm?

Have you seen McCain's new ad?

Barack Obama supports plans that will take 15-20 years or more to have any effect whatsoever; but he will call this "fast track" while stating the 5-10 years for new oil to come to market is a solution that will take too long.

This statement would probably also be supported by B.O. seeing as he's not clever enough to realize that if he doesn't actually propose a solution that has a chance of doing anything in the next decade he's going to have trouble with this issue.

[...] I was all set to hate it per the Drudge teaser about cameos from Paris and Britney, but it’s actually surprisingly savvy. This is the third ad in nine days to spoof the cult of Obama but the first one to employ it to any useful end, pairing it with the shots of celebutante nitwits to make him look like a “famous for being famous” lightweight per the hot-button coup de grace. The true stroke of brilliance, though, is how it plays the media. Team Maverick is very shrewdly trying to close the money gap by using gimmicky spots that they know will end up being buzzed about — and getting free airplay — on cable news. Britney and Paris guarantee that this will end up on crap like Hardball, although I admit I’m surprised to see Drudge emerge from the tank long enough to tack it up at the top of the Report. Exit question via last night’s post: How is it that McCain’s camp is capable of ads more memorable than the Obama juggernaut? [...]

Raise the Mileage Standards: Already done by Congress, people are buying more small cars and fewer SUVs anyway, because they can't afford the gasoline.

Crack down on Speculators: Oil is an international commodity. The speculators will take their markets outside the United States, where we can't control them.

Alternative Energy: Wind and solar electricity are not enough, doesn't put anything in the tank. Hydrogen power is a net energy loser, you need to burn something to get it.

McCain needs to do another ad, where he starts with Obama saying "Yes We Can", then McCain says Yes We Can lower oil prices by drilling offshore and using shale oil, Yes We Can build clean coal plants, Yes We Can build 45 nuclear power plants, Yes We Can create jobs for American coal miners and oil rig workers.
Barack Obama says No We Can't do these things, McCain says (have crowd chanting) Yes We Can.

Another idea (maybe a little more risky) would be to say Americans pay $700 billion a year for imported oil to these men (show Saudi princes) and this man (show a raving Hugo Chavez). America has plenty of oil resources here at home, and we can pay these men (show American workers on an offshore oil rig) and keep our oil money in America for Americans, but the Democrats want to keep sending our money overseas. John McCain wants American energy from America, and to create American jobs to get it.

How can we blame Obama for rising gas prices?

Does Obama oppose any and all drilling, like the rest of the Democratic leadership?
If yes, the Obama shares blame with them. Since none of them are running for president at present, it doesn't make sense to mention them as well.

None of Obama's 'solutions' addresses the current problem of oil supply.

Crackdown on speculators - Great, you'll just send them overseas.
Raise mileage standards - Great, we are doing that already. Way to be ahead of the curve.
Fast-track alternative fuels plan - 10 years is not 'fast'. Neither is it a guarantee that that anything will be ready by then. And how can your 'alternative fuels' plan tout plug-in hybrids as a solution while you are against the Nuclear Power Plants, Coal Plants, etc that would be needed to power the plug-ins?

Increasing the supply is a temporary solution. Eventually we won’t be able to increase the supply and it will drain to unusable levels. I like high gas prices. It might get some real progress going in the field. I’d love it if the damn thing became obsolete as a fuel. Darth Executor on July 30, 2008 at 12:34 AM
If you call the next 100 years temporary. We have more oil here than Saudi Arabia and Iraq combined. A bit of research is in order on your part. The energy crisis is merely a crisis of leadership, not a crisis of energy.

Same with immigration. No crisis but a leadership crisis.

the date is 1873 not 1973 or 2003. The past is the past. reliving old hate is what has cause Europe to fight 2 world wars, is what has caused the middle east to fight wars since the dawn of time. has caused millions upon millions of deaths.

I am aware of the date and I am also aware that he who does not learn the right lessons from the past is doomed to repeat it.

Ridiculous.

- Remember McCain's add?
- Where? Which one? Can I please watch?

It's not so much Microsoft advertizing Apple's products. It's Microsoft advertizing their own product as follows:

- Remember Apple iPhone? The one that's slick and cool as hell?

Have they even taken marketing classes?

Both are wrong. Obama is a little more wrong; The difference is that Obama is smart enough to know that he is he is wrong.

coming to a healthcare near you when BHO is elected <strike>King for life</strike> President for 8 -10 years

However, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice) the Government’s drugs watchdog, ruled that Aricept, which has been shown to improve the memory and day-to-day life of those in the late stages of the disease, was too expensive for widespread use in Britain.

the date is 1873 not 1973 or 2003. The past is the past. reliving old hate is what has cause Europe to fight 2 world wars, is what has caused the middle east to fight wars since the dawn of time. has caused millions upon millions of deaths.

Has our country been 100% noble in its history? no. Did our country act within the bounds of "normal" behavior at that point in time? yes

Is the world better that the USA was formed from sea to sea. Becoming the world's only superpower? IMO yes.

Were great wrongs stopped by America? yes

the people that committed those actions are long dead and buried. Our nation has propeled the rest of the world into a new civilization where slavery is not the way of mankind, where women have equal rights, Where people of different nations, races and skin colors can live is relative harmony.
where people have freedom to persue their life passions.

Do the means justify the ends? that is the question. I think the answer is yes.

think of what could have been. The Native Americians where technology inferior. If the USA did not conquer from sea to sea what chance would Spain, England, or France or some other European power lay claim to the lands (in fact they did). Would it have been better to have a fractured hodgepodge of European powers constantly fighting over boundries? To have world wars on this land? To not have a bastion of freedom in the world?

Make no mistake the Native Americian societies where doomed when the first ships sailed. The question was who and/or what would lay claim to the land after the wars.

All technology inferior people were doomed in that age. And in this age also. Reagan pointed the way. Peace thru strength.

Ok Obama.. why do you keep calling McCain, President Bush and saying that McCain is President Bush's 3rd term?

I think demonizing President Bush has been played out long enough..

“I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it’s Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds.”

unseen on July 29, 2008 at 9:10 PM

Right, Barry, because the U.S. just hasn't done enough for African-Americans. The Civil War and hundreds of thousands of dead Americans wasn't enough. Decades of affirmative action, racial preferences, subsidized housing, welfare, busing school kids, etc., wasn't enough. It's never enough, is it Barry?

Here's what I want to know: if the U.S. agrees to pay "reparations" to descendants of African slaves brought forcibly to the U.S., are we white taxpayers going to be entitled to a set-off for the benefits those descendants have obtained from being able to live in the U.S.? In tort law, which is what we're talking about, if the tort "victim" has obtained some benefit as a result of the tort that he or she otherwise would not have obtained, the tortfeasor (the wrongdoer) gets to deduct (or set-off) that amount from the amount paid to the victim.

Since the average black citizen on the African continent lives a pretty crappy life today, it seems only fair that we take into account the quality of life that the average African-American would be living today if his or her ancestors had been left in Africa. I bet if we crunched the numbers, the A-A's screaming for "reparations" would end up owing us -- not the other way around.

but somehow continuing the status quo will lower prices? keep copying and pasting the talking points. congress has "tried" a few things since 1980, such as legislating vehicles w/ higher gas milage for one example. maybe trying something new, such as increasing the supply. basic economics you twit.

The benevolent Obama will allow you to put your life in jeopardy in a tiny motorized tin can rather than let you defy his command to quit using oil, gas, coal, nuclear, or wood power. You must not even THINK of these things!

And then he'll take your money...since you'll be dead (crushed, frozen, and/or starved).

Obama almost makes Fidel Castro look benevolent...and slightly to the right of the Democrat nominee.
