Comedy gold: New Media Matters ad hits press for being in the tank for … McCain

So unspeakably lame is this that I can’t even work up a good head of schadenfreude over it. Suffice it to say, had this come from a right-wing group, yet another tedious round of self-congratulation about how much funnier liberals are than conservatives would already be in full swing on left. Even so, I think it’s my favorite ad of the campaign thus far, simply for the juxtaposition with this bit of data from the Opinion Dynamics poll last week. Who are you going to believe, Media Matters or your lying eyes?

Give ‘em credit for digging up the video clips in the word bubble, though: It’s not easy finding mentions of McCain on air these days. By all means, hold that media accountable.

Repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it to be the truth. One upside to this story is that the media will be forced to actually use McCain’s name!

Obviously I woke up in Bizarro World.

Hard to believe people can be so out of touch. But I remind myself these are the people who couldn’t hold a job unless someone else supplies the clean urine.
snaggletoothie on July 29, 2008 at 12:49 PM
oh my gawd i think Im a little dumber now just by watching that .
Mojack420 on July 29, 2008 at 12:50 PM
After being pwned by Rush last fall, I’m surprised these dolts are still in business.
Since Hillary helped create this outfit, why don’t they help her retire her debt by luquidating their assets and, um, going away?
JammieWearingFool on July 29, 2008 at 12:51 PM
Somebody please take the mushrooms and LSD away from the Media Matters people.
malan89 on July 29, 2008 at 12:51 PM
One thing about living in Texas, is we are so red that rarely do we see these “ads” outside of reading about them on blogs or the ads being discussed on talk shows. Lucky us – O isn’t spending a dime here.
(did enjoy liberal lapdog Jonathan Alter’s review of the yesterday-discussed MoveOn.org ad: “it’s dumb”.)

McCain is in the media, I thought it was Obama’s Rock star concerts in Europe and his workout sessions.
joeswampy on July 29, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Wow, that is hard hitting, reminds me of Obama’s strategy in Pakistan.. Throw more cash at the problem, triple the funding!
saus on July 29, 2008 at 12:52 PM
Actualy, the media WAS in the tank for McCain, right up until he got the nomination.
They supported McCain because he was the most liberal of the field running for the Reps…
Now, though, that its between McCain and Obama, they are of course once again choosing the most liberal available in the contest…
MSM has been totally consistant in their choices…
Romeo13 on July 29, 2008 at 12:54 PM
Hey McNumbnuts, if the press loves you, you are doing everything wrong!

Never underestimate the Gullibility of Stupid Liberals.
kirkill on July 29, 2008 at 1:02 PM
I really hate when this happens,
Hot Air sails through the Bermuda
triangle of the internet, and a video
pops up saying McCains loved by the MSM!
As soon as were out of the blue haze,
and out of the triangle, were gonna
be right back to Maverick hate by
the MSM,daggit! haha.

Mainstream Media
1896-2008
The Mainstream Media passed away today after fighting the long-term illness of hubris.
The child of Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst, the deceased is survived by her errant offspring, Blog O’Sphere of the Internet, Talk Radio of A.M. Airwaves, and Cable Television of Cox-DirectTV, Dishnetwork.
Mainstream Media started her career in yellow journalism, pointing out social ills in American society during the Gilded Age. She showed her patriotism by supporting the Spanish-American War of 1898 and the two world wars which were run by Democratic presidents. However, post-World War II, she became disillusioned when Franklin Roosevelt’s failed socialist New Deal policies came under attack by Republicans. From that point on, Ms. Media showed increasing symptoms of hubris, such as thinking it could brainwash its readers by printing lies over and over to influence public opinion. Her last rites were administered in 2004 when it was discovered CBS had forged documents in an attempt to smear the incumbent Republican president, but she managed to hang on life-support for four more years until her school-girl crush on Barack Obama caused a death rattle in her chest and she passed away.
No services will be held because nobody really gives a rat’s a$$.

Well, we should at least wish/hope it was true.
Riposte on July 29, 2008 at 1:06 PM
This is the same mindset who says the surge did not work. This successfully portrays libs and dems as crybabies who like to twist the truth to gain power.
Travis1 on July 29, 2008 at 1:09 PM
This is clearly a Dem meme to blunt the charges of Liberal Bias Media. This, Frank Rich complaining the press is hitting OBAMA too hard on Iraq (surge)… many other usual outlets. It’s coordinated.
Will probably work too. The casual observer see’s “Oh they each say the press is biased against them” and it becomes a wash.

Media Matters, or so they think
McCain in the tank with media they link
Just on cue
They ain’t got a clue
Just as usual, they stink
Entelechy on July 29, 2008 at 1:12 PM
They found 5 clips and 2 of them are from 2006? How sad is that. I can turn on MSNBC from 2:30 to 3:00 and find more clips of people loving Obama.
Rbastid on July 29, 2008 at 1:15 PM

I, for one, will believe the media aren’t a bunch of McCain shills when the NYT runs a headline like:
STINKY STINKY BUTTFACE CALLED HIS WIFE A C*NT
Until then, their right-wing bias is pathetically blatant.
Jim Treacher on July 29, 2008 at 1:16 PM
ROFL – I guess they are trying to hit up the 11% that poll found that thinks the media is in the tank for McCain.
JeffinSac on July 29, 2008 at 1:17 PM
This thing looks like a Jib-Jab reject.
I thought Darth Soros pretty much bankrolled this ass-clown outfit. This is the best he can get with his money? SHEEESH!!!

hese are the people that believe the MSM is right-wing.
jukin on July 29, 2008 at 1:44 PM
Give MM a break. Sometimes you have to publish a report you never wanted to produce anyway to comply with the conditions of your financial grant.
Whoops. Did I say that out loud?
gabriel sutherland on July 29, 2008 at 2:12 PM
the hard left really beleive this
jp on July 29, 2008 at 2:21 PM
Actually, I’ve got nothing to add to that. You win.
Physics Geek on July 29, 2008 at 2:21 PM
Wow. This is like Baghdad Bob levels of denial.
Hannibal Smith on July 29, 2008 at 2:26 PM
This is just like denying the surge worked and the Bush lied
drivel that liberals have been pushing for years.
They know what they are saying is bullsh!t,but if they say it enough and get their friends in the MSM to repeat it,enough people will buy into it.
Just like Obama’s sheep and the media constantly telling us how intelligent and wonderful a President he will be but they cannot tell you one thing this man has accomplished that supersedes the judgment and decision making of a simple oil change.
Baxter Greene on July 29, 2008 at 2:27 PM
Well of course the delusional folks who run Media Matters believe that the media is in the tank for McCain. They live in their own fantasy world where everything is opposite from reality.
SoulGlo on July 29, 2008 at 3:28 PM
huh? how lame..
Chakra Hammer on July 29, 2008 at 4:01 PM
Media Matters exists solely to deny the fact that the media are liberal. What they really mean is that the media aren’t as liberal as they are.
Brainster on July 29, 2008 at 4:22 PM
“MediaMatters, or your lying eyes?”
How about this The Center for Media and Public Affairs study?

Heh, they’re so revolting they stink on ice!
Liberty or Death on July 29, 2008 at 6:47 PM
So MSNBC is conservative? Seems that way according to that study.
Typhonsentra on July 29, 2008 at 8:19 PM
Media Matters is a George “Goldfinger” Soros front. They have unlimited funding. They’ll be with us as long as Soros has an ax to grind.
