Video: Trailer for Oliver Stone’s Bush movie debuts
posted at 9:57 am on July 28, 2008 by Allahpundit
Via JWF, the soundtrack alone promises a film every bit as subtle, realistic, and restrained as “Natural Born Killers.” Given that part of the humor derives from the actors’ resemblance (or lack thereof) to the people they’re playing, this is shaping up to be the movie equivalent of one of those nutroots Bush/chimp photo comparisons. Exit question: Why did Stone wait so long to make this? Hasn’t he heard that we have a new president now?

Well at least the soundtrack has it correct. Because of W, it is a wonderful world.
Without his leadership, there’d be a helluva lot more dead Americans, Iraqis, and Muslims throughout the world today.
Oliver Stone and Josh Brolin wouldn’t be able to portray W if talent and creativity dropped from the sky on top of them like a ton of bricks. Their IQs are just about as high as that ton of bricks, too.

right2bright on July 28, 2008 at 10:05 AM
That looked painfully hackneyed.
$20 says it tanks. Stick a fork in Stone.
LimeyGeek on July 28, 2008 at 10:06 AM
Maybe he hopes to sway the upcoming vote in Obama’s favor? Coming out in the Fall…smack-dab before the election…
JetBoy on July 28, 2008 at 10:06 AM
I can hardly wait for Obam’s, it will be 30 seconds long, and every time you see it, there will be a different ending.
right2bright on July 28, 2008 at 10:07 AM
Coming soon…
Um, why the hell would anyone(even liberal leftys) go to see a movie, even a biased one at that, about a man who’s been president for the past 8 years? What, they didn’t get enough material from the MSM over the years to fuel their BDS ??? Really?
4shoes on July 28, 2008 at 10:09 AM
Just add this to the in the tank MSM and you have a successful push towards a socialist America. Soon, it will be against the law to proclaim, God Bless America. Pass the popcorn. Oh, that’s right, there is no more popcorn (as though we could afford to buy it anyway) because the libs have managed to put most of our corn into our gas tanks.
Travis1 on July 28, 2008 at 10:10 AM
That’s the thing. This movie will probably bomb and Oliver Stone doesn’t care. It’s worth the money to just to get his emotional feelings out.
terryannonline on July 28, 2008 at 10:12 AM
i’ll see it, but it’s gonna be torrented.

150 Years from now, check George Walker Bush’s legacy.
150 Years from now, Oliver Stone will be unsearchable.
carbon_footprint on July 28, 2008 at 10:15 AM
It’s amazing(though it probably shouldn’t be) the lengths some will go to, to express their hate.
4shoes on July 28, 2008 at 10:18 AM
This ought to see the same success as Lions for Lambs, or whatever that thing was….or every other anti-Bush movie.
drjohn on July 28, 2008 at 10:18 AM
So let me get this straight. GWB is bad, but Castro is good. What color is the sky in your world, Ollie?
trubble on July 28, 2008 at 10:20 AM
Hollywood really does think we are a bunch of moronic rubes out here in middle America! They believe that we will all back up our pick up trucks (gun rack loaded in the back window), spend some $4.00 per gallon gas and then pay $10.00 per ticket to sit and watch this tripe?
And Oliver Stone couldn’t get anything better than Lion’sGate to release this? Everything I rent from these guys is crap! Whenever I see Lion’s Gate I immediately think to myself “oh no”…
sabbott on July 28, 2008 at 10:20 AM
Louis Armstrongs’ original release of “It’s a Wonderful World” puts this Eddie Arnold-ish version to shame. Maybe he will be listed in the credits.
captivated_dem on July 28, 2008 at 10:21 AM
Has he “nuked the fridge” or “jumped the shark”? I can’t decide.
bbz123 on July 28, 2008 at 10:22 AM
I’m sure Batman will be a much better take on W than this film
jp on July 28, 2008 at 10:24 AM
This should be available on Netflix instant play twenty-four hours after its debut.
Just think how many carbon credits Stone could have purchased with the money he wasted on this hate crime.
Hening on July 28, 2008 at 10:25 AM
I’m gonna say he “jumped the fridge.” Less dangerous-sounding, but more accurate as a double fail…
loganthompson on July 28, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Stone’s film really has the potential to do to quickie political biography movies what Ed Wood did for science fiction films in the late 1950s.
jon1979 on July 28, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Since his work in “Midnight Express” (1978) most of Stone’s stuff has been a fictionalization of real-life events. Isn’t there something dishonest about that? Picasso said painting was a lie that told the truth. Stone’s movies are just lies, though his movie W, like JFK and Nixon, will have more effect on public perception and understanding of GWB than any history book.
Paul-Cincy on July 28, 2008 at 10:30 AM
how many high school history classes will show this to students, after they leave Science class and watching Al Gore’s film?
jp on July 28, 2008 at 10:31 AM
More propaganda in time for the election?
I swear sometimes it is difficult for people to understand we are ‘Living in History’ as in, the times we live in will be documented and reviewed years and years from now. Will the historians note the leftists rise to power supported by a dishonest press, and even more damaging, truth-twisting hollywood?
We’ll be sitting here (hopefully) saying we watched it, and warned about it, as we were overthrown from the inside out.
cntrlfrk on July 28, 2008 at 10:33 AM
I have a hard time believing Oliver Stone has any skin in the game on this movie. Who finances these bombs of movies? Does George Soros have a production company I don’t know about?
Outlander on July 28, 2008 at 10:34 AM
A fool’s bet: That might exceed the film’s opening weekend grosses.
I’m off to imdb.com now to look up the cast so I know I’ll never have to watch any of their collected output again. No great loss.
Captain Scarlet on July 28, 2008 at 10:35 AM
Hmmmm….according to that W had a hell of a good time in his younger years! Glad to see he got that out of his system and grew up….unlike King Bill who seems to still think life is still just a big old frat party.
dustoffmom on July 28, 2008 at 10:38 AM
I think that most of the public is virtually immune to obvious election time propaganda, and I’m hardly one to give the public much credit for anything.

That is what I keep telling people as well. The Iraq war was a great idea, that simply wasn’t executed in the best way.
However when democracy slowly takes over the Middle East, terrorists no longer have sanctuaries, and Iraq and other countries in the region are vacation spots, George W will be looked at like a Hero.

Could have been my biography, well, except for the President stuff. “what do you think you are, a Kennedy!”. See, the Democrats live that way, and it’s okie dokie. If a Republican lives like that, he’s ousted and/or imprisoned.
It will tank at the BO.

“Who do you think you are? A Kennedy?!?!?!?!
Shy Guy on July 28, 2008 at 10:51 AM
The trailer seems to suggest that it isn’t all about W but that all republicans are evil. Even Tony Blair is in there with them.
shick on July 28, 2008 at 10:53 AM
This isn’t about trying to swing an election. (Well maybe). This is about trying to direct Bush’ legacy so he’s thought of as worse than Nixon.
Although seeing that made me think… What can you say about Obama’s history? What drove Obama from this (smoking pot and surfing) to this (sitting in Waynes church looking bored followed by him in the Senate voting “present”)
Skywise on July 28, 2008 at 10:54 AM
How can anyone look at any of Oliver Stone’s most recent tripe movies and not reevaluate how they feel about earlier movies we may have liked? The dude’s akin to Tom Cruise. Cruise recently whacking out makes it impossible to watch his old movies and not constantly think, “This guy is nuts.” Stone has thrown away whatever shred of credibility he may have once had. All of his movies now wreak of propaganda.
Sugar Land on July 28, 2008 at 10:58 AM
Great line.
I never knew he was such a party guy in his younger days. How come the dems hate him? He’s more like them then I though. Maybe it’s because he grew out of it?
jmarcure on July 28, 2008 at 11:04 AM
It has never ceased to amaze me that Oliver Stone has gone from “Platoon” to this kind of garbage. The guy needs to go back to the Frank Capra School of Successful Film Directing or something. I go to movies to forget about stuff like this, not to have it shoved into my face regardless, which has now become the stock and trade of filmmaker wannebe/Shill Deluxe Michael Moore. I hope this film tanks within the first weekend and Stone loses his shirt as a result.
pilamaye on July 28, 2008 at 11:10 AM
So Bush drank, goofed off in college, chased women and got in fist fights, then matured and went on to be successful. And that’s BAD.
Bin Obama smoked pot and ciggies, snorted coke, hung with domestic terrorists, married Angela Davis-Omarosa, organised the Chicago black community to use racism as go to the front of the class pass. And that’s GOOD!
Alden Pyle on July 28, 2008 at 11:11 AM
It will bomb, just like all the other anti-Bush propaganda has.

Well, Babs must be so proud. Her stepson playing George W. Bush, evil overlord of the world. I would bet James Cromwell paid to act in this movie. He is one of the biggest lefties in Hollywood. Hopefully, this movie will have the opposite effect on people and open their eyes to the leftist drivel that is being foisted upon them. Phooey on em.

Interesting that they got an actor with such a strong voice to play H.W. I liked H.W., but he has a weak Harry Reid-ish voice. Where did Stone come up with the idea that W. threaten to kick his Dad’s a**?
gmoonster on July 28, 2008 at 11:50 AM
Could very well be!
Oliver Stone nuked the shark years ago with JFK.
carbon_footprint on July 28, 2008 at 11:52 AM
There is a fundamental problem with the scenario you’re suggesting: it assumes that future historians will be fair and accurate rather than propagandists themselves in the service of the leftist cause.
I don’t see how that assumption can be safely made anymore.

Who will see this movie? Oliver Stone a legend in his own mind. It is sad when they can’t retire and just fade away.

I predict this movie will be an atomic bomb on the level of Stop Loss.
Who is this movie even aimed at? Every “political thriller” of the last 5 years has performed wretchedly. One cinematic abortion after another.

I wonder if it’s a coincidence that Stone hired Toby Jones to be Karl Rove – whose most prominent recent film appearances, as I recall, are Truman Capote and that slave-owning guy in “Amazing Grace.” Perhaps its unlikely, but I’d like to think that Oliver Stone said, “Hey! Karl Rove’s as bad as a slaveowner! Let’s get that guy!”
And yes, they didn’t even use the good version of “What a Wonderful World.” On the other hand, that leaves Satchmo untainted by the Stone stain – and the music world a little bit better because of it.

Heck, you know it’s going to rail on Bush… but that line “Who do you think you are, a Kennedy? You’re a Bush! Act like one.” Sweet.

DanKenton on July 28, 2008 at 1:31 PM
I think this will bomb and it will also be a p.r. problem for Democrats generally.
People may not like GW anymore, but I dont think Oliver Stone throwing a bucket of blood around the Oval Office while Bush is still in office will go over too well in bitter, bible-clinging, gun-toting bigot country.
Mike D. on July 28, 2008 at 1:43 PM
WHo does he think is gonna watch this train wreck? Liberals who hate Bush and will hate him more watching him go trough all this to make it to the White House. Or, Conservatives who wouldn’t go to a O. Stone movie in the first place.

Gag! Why do liberals always insist on using “What a Wonderful World” in their movies? That song has been forever tarnished thanks to that horrible mess, “Good Morning, Vietnam”. I think Moore used it once too.
srhoades on July 28, 2008 at 2:25 PM
Clearly, Stone does not understand the Bush family. I just don`t think W. would go after his dad like that or they`d be that way with each other. “What a Wonderful World” is most likely used to make him seem simplistic, stupid, head in the clouds………You know, a doofus.
I agree, it may make a few million from the far-lefties going to see it, then it`ll drop like a……..ahem…Stone? :)

Seriously, we need a strategy.
eaglesdontflock on July 28, 2008 at 4:12 PM
Liberals love to lose money financing crap like this. It makes them feel all sixties-ish and noble. “We’re not in it for the money, we’re sacrificing our time and money to show the TRUTH.”
Most of the people who hate Bush aren’t going to shell out money to see a bio of him even if it does paint him in the worst possible light. Those who don’t hate him certainly won’t go to see it. And those who don’t care . . . won’t care to see it.
Oliver Stone would do better remaking Plan 9 from Outer Space. He could direct himself playing the head alien since he’d be right at home saying, “You see? You see? Your stupid minds! Stupid! Stupid!”
NoSquids on July 28, 2008 at 4:18 PM
Producing movie trash of this degree about a sitting President is unheard of. There is a serious genetic flaw in Stone and Company and natural selection has failed us. Brolin, Stone, Penn, Sarandon, all of those people would have been selected out were it not for modern medicine. I say stop all research grants for the medical community.
