The running joke among Unitarians was that the name “Jesus” is only heard when someone falls down the stairs, and that the only sacrament is the black coffee brewed after services.

The running joke among nutroots is that clapping is only heard when a conservative falls into ill health, and the only sacrament is carbon credits.

There is no such thing

I will never understand the twisted logic of liberals. Nor the hypocrisy.

Nothing to understand, it’s who they are

The shooter is obviously a demented liberal that thinks he’s a conservative, but doesn’t have a clue.
Fodder for liberals.

“I hope he lingers and goes slow and hard.”

I know that the MSM would never admit it in a million years, but the filth on the left-wing blogs makes people on the right seem like nuns and monks.

And that takes some doing!

flenser on July 28, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Actually, according to U.U., the one ultimately responsible is The Deity [or, if they are atheistic, The Universe] -who [which] created the killer, allowed him to go mad, and then didn’t inspire the preacher to warn the congregation to duck in time.

(The Lord could also have inserted some kind of divine crawl on FOX news the night before, at the very least, if not more overtly caused Sean Hannity to speak in tongues.)

http://www.claytoncramer.com/weblog/2008_07_27_archive.html#6708805378666179027

At this morning’s press conference, the police chief indicated that from a letter found in the killer’s home:

1. He had been unemployed since 2006. (He had an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering.)

2. He blamed liberals and gays for his inability to get a job–hence, his decision to attack the Tennessee Valley Unitarian-Universalist church.

3. He was upset about his food stamps being reduced.

4. His criminal record was two DUI convictions, one in California, and one in Tennessee.

5. He thought that he was having trouble getting a job because of his age.

This guy sounds like a mass of contradictions. You know, most rational people who hate liberalism aren’t taking food stamps (a liberal program) or whining about age discrimination (a liberal concern). And somehow, blaming gays for his inability to get a job seems a bit bizarre to me–especially in mechanical engineering. There are some occupations that are stereotypically gay, but mechanical engineering isn’t one of them.

This guy does seem pretty atypical, in many respects. The vast majority of murderers have one or both of the following characteristics:

1. Substantial violent crime histories before committing murder.

2. Histories of severe mental illness that was inadequately treated, or often not treated at all.

Canadian Imperialist Running Dog on July 28, 2008 at 11:46 PM

The first quote is an example of the “Chief Brody slap.” A commenter on a blog, more astute than I and whose identity is lost in the mists of time, observed that people and especially those with liberal politics lie coiled in wait to lash out with what he called the “Chief Brody slap,” so named after the scene in Jaws where Mrs. Kintner dressed in her black mourning attire slaps Chief Brody in the face in front of everyone and humiliates him by blaming him for her son’s grisly death. It’s a great scene and an excellent example of dramatic catharsis and it feels both awful and enormously enjoyable all at once to watch. Mrs. Kintner essentially launches a passive aggressive attack on the Chief that forestalls any possibility of counterattack. She gets to slap him, but he can’t say a word back: she is obviously mourning and her son was just torn limb from limb by a wild animal, and so any defense mounted by Brody would make him look like a world class jerk. He knows this, and concedes her point and slinks away feeling like crap, which is at some level exactly Mrs. Kintner’s intended effect.

Of course everyone, whatever their politics, would like to deliver the Chief Brody slap to someone at one point or another. But it does seem to be a feature of liberal psychology to be so primed in anticipation for some tragic event that will offer the opportunity to get a buzz from delivering a pent-up righteous Chief Brody slap to their usual suspects.

Also, RJ, I know who kills our soldiers in Iraq. Sure, terrorists have their fingers on the triggers, but it is their belief that they can defeat the U.S. military that makes them squeeze. And it is you and you ilk at HuffPo, MoveOn, DailyKos, and your chosen representatives in office who make them think this with your constant chants of defeat and retreat. So, in fact, you and your ilk have the blood of U.S. soldiers on your hands.

As for the notion that Limbaugh and Coulter caused this lunatic to shoot people, I feel sorry for Mr. Asskow. He’s nearly as deranged as the shooter. I am happy to know he’s a leftard, as he probably doesn’t know how to shoot a gun, or where to get one.

He stole the plot from a strange and kinda fun movie, the Fisher King, and inserted it into real life. That’s called mental illness, Mr. Asskow; it was the subject of the movie.

Texas Rainmaker on July 29, 2008 at 12:13 AM

RJ, RJ, RJ. How many millions of Rush Limbaugh listeners are out there? (There are many loyal liberal listeners as well). How many millions of Hannity listeners? Coulter readers? How many Robertson and Fox News viewers? How many Dick Morris readers?

So one twisted nutwad goes batsh*t crazy (RJ blames the right-wing media machine for his dive into insanity), takes his shotgun and goes and kills some innocent people, and somehow, RJ is blaming everyone but the shooter? It’s not even the gun’s fault this time. So it’s time to ban conservatives as well as guns, right?

What about all those other viewers? Surely, all of their clocks are ticking too, right? So, according to you, RJ Eskow, all those millions of people are getting their guns and ammo ready and will be attacking at any moment now?

What a brainless, twittering pile of spittle from an ignorant hack. His picture should be the one right next to “moonbat” in the dictionary.

Tom Blogical on July 29, 2008 at 12:37 AM

Unitarians tend to be intellectual, verbal, literate, thoughtful, and from a variety of backgrounds. Some are atheist, some are agnostic, others believe in God in a variety of Eastern and Western forms

I’m guessing that those mysterious atheists who believe in God are Unitarians.

flenser on July 29, 2008 at 12:41 AM

Eskow said:

Emerson rejected all claims of the supernatural in the Bible. He said that miracles were “monster,” in the original meaning of that word as “against nature.” In a characteristically striking turn of phrase, he said they were “not one with the blowing clover and the falling rain.” Emerson was telling us that the beauty of the manifest world should be enough.

Is it worth killing a person for believing that?

The clear implication being that these people were targeted for being insufficiently theistic. Only that’s not what happened here at all. As someone noted above, the shooter had issues with Christianity:

“We were talking one day when my daughter graduated from Bible college, and I told him I was a Christian, then he almost turned angry. “He seemed to get angry at that.”

There is no evidence that he targeted these people because of their religious views. His letter (which he intended the police to find after his death) made no mention of religious issues.

All that to say, Eskow’s analysis is crap.

From the first link:

The Unitarian Universalist (or UU) denomination is the product of a merger between Unitarianism and Universalism, two centuries-old Christian denominations. Unitarianism was founded on the belief that the Trinity was illogical and that there could only be one divinity. Universalists believed that God was too merciful to condemn anyone to an eternity in hell, and that even the most evil person would get out of there eventually (after fifty thousand years or so).

The second and third sentences don’t quite reconcile with the first one.

RJ Eskow, all of that self aggrandizement over TOLERANCE in the same article blaming everyone you dislike for a mentally deranged individual’s murderous rampage? Well, you’ve been through trauma, and need to vent. But for shame!

So RJ loathes living Christians other than his own selective brand. That’s sad, carrying for such a long time a chip on the shoulder so sharp that it has cut into his heart and mind. Having vented his anger and finding himself in a very poor place to be in the sight of God, “falling down the stairs” perhaps RJ will give up his burden to our Lord. Jesus said, let the dead bury the dead when a wannabeliever told him he’d catch up with him later.

Our sincere condolensces are with the grieving Unitarians and the good community of people of Tennessee who produce so many great Americans including Fred Thompson. May victims of violence rest in peace knowing that all good Americans grieve at their tragic deaths and pray for their families.

When a Jihadi carries out an attack:

1. He was poor, oppressed, dissaffected.
2. He is a part of a tiny teeny minority, which does not represent the Muslims.

Here:

1. He was evil, homophobic, tree hating, right wing nut.
2. All right wingers out there with no exception are to blame!

The liberals who seem to always find social-economical justifications for Islamic Jihadists’ murderous actions, suddenly can’t find such a justification for why a poor, disaffected American guy decided to shoot the people who in his mind took his job away?

The sad truth and irony remain beyond the progressive ubertard mental capacity to process. Words are just hype to allow themselves elbow room to knock off their own undesirables. If this revisionist reaction is widespread, woe.

Ubertards hate everything limiting their SPECIAL lives that require imposition upon all others. Their tolerance is intolerance for any threat whether real or imagined. Of course they will socially attack their fellow Americans whom they are forced to abide with by law. And they will profess love and peace with the unknown because they have no contact with the unknown. Once jihad personally strikes the ubertard, the epiphany occurs. Following a sign from God aka “experience” in the refiner’s fire, whether the ubertard has the intestinal fortitude to convert to rational conservatism is entirely up to the individual.

Just don’t count on chicken little’s eggs hatching what you need.

Hell’s bells, these kids don’t even know the Constitution being bashed! The only reason they’d “need” a new one is to pass tests that require knowing nothing, enabling them to remain juvenile no matter how old they get. Typical white person effete liberal.

The running joke among nutroots is that clapping is only heard when a conservative falls into ill health, and the only sacrament is carbon credits.

Spirit of 1776 on July 28, 2008 at 10:40 PM

Brilliant.

…Just like guns don’t kill people, ideas don’t kill people.

unseen on July 28, 2008 at 11:17 PM

I don’t agree with that at all. Sick ideologies have killed millions of people. Think Communism, Maoism, Nazism, Radical Islam….

That being said, some people are just plain nuts.

Liberals Beware!

Pat Robertson, Pastor Hagee, Ann Coulter, Dick Morris, Sean Hannity, and Anti-Liberals from every walk of life are bitterly clinging to their guns, religion, and reloading equipment in their basements, just waiting for Marching Orders from Rush.

Preaching, Writing, and Political Commentary are just their day-time jobs.

Here’s R.J. Eskow’s bio.

I’d love to know what this turd sandwich did for the State Department.

Stand for nothing; fall for anything.

Ah yes,

Duly entered into my list of quotable quotes.

franksalterego on July 29, 2008 at 8:30 AM

Individuals like this Eskow should be ignored.

Did I miss it? No discussions on HA today about the 5th Circuit throwing out the appeal for Ramos/Compean??

Darvin Dowdy on July 29, 2008 at 8:41 AM

There’s no point in commenting on the article – the intellectual and moral bankruptcy of liberalism no longer surprises or interests me. It is what they are, so thinking and writing like that is just to be expected. (shrug)

But I have to admit to being a little surprised that HuffPo would run it. Somebody up above already mentioned their credibility, and while I don’t find HuffPo very credible – they have tried to maintain some sort of reputation of credibility.

What do they have to gain from running such an emotive, sophomoric, hate-filled diatribe?

I think Kos “Screw Them” himself might have hesitated before publishing that. (And then done it anyways, of course.)

Professor Blather on July 29, 2008 at 8:44 AM

I know that the MSM would never admit it in a million years, but the filth on the left-wing blogs makes people on the right seem like nuns and monks.

flenser on July 28, 2008 at 10:52 PM

Yup.

We have our crazies and our zealots. A few here.

But the stuff that sends Allahpundit running for his ban hammer – or at least prompts him to administer a sardonic scolding – isn’t just permitted at almost ALL liberal blogs, its actually encouraged. It’s the standard.

Liberalism is primarily about immaturity. When you grow up, you leave it behind. That’s why plenty of liberals have conservative parents and grow up to be conservative themselves, and that’s why somebody coined that famous phrase often attributed to Churchill (“if you’re not a liberal at 20 …).

And that’s why their blogs are overwhelmed with childish hatred, and why even leading blogs on the left will publish tripe like this.

Immaturity.

Professor Blather on July 29, 2008 at 8:48 AM

When some worthless crack head kills an unarmed citizen for $5.00, it’s the gun’s fault.

But when you can score some political points by blaming people who weren’t there – it’s no longer the gun’s fault.

Guns don’t kill people, people (who were miles away from the scene) kill people.

The gymnastics libs perform to avoid blaming the triggermen.

Spirit of 1776 on July 28, 2008 at 10:40 PM

no the left’s holiest sacrament is killing (aborting) babies…

right4life on July 29, 2008 at 9:44 AM

It is pretty prevelant on both side. Did you see the story on that thug/illegal/gangster who killed that family in San Fransico? Lots of people here blamed it on Gary Newsome specifically.

VolMagic on July 28, 2008 at 11:50 PM

If you, as mayor, support a policy that allows criminal illegal aliens to remain in a community and eventually kill a family, are you not responsible for the criminal to be in a position to commit the crime?

When addressing a gay-rights issue, Mayor Newsom piously writes:

“Upon taking the Oath of Office, becoming the Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco, I swore to uphold the Constitution of the State of California.”

But, when addressing the the immigration issue, he choses to ignore the law…A clear Dereliction of Duty.

franksalterego on July 29, 2008 at 11:19 AM

RJ Eskow fails to mention which liberals are responsible for the thirty three dead at Virginia Tech.

Liberalism killed those innocent college students surely as Juan Williams excitedly proclaiming “guns scare me”.

Speakup on July 29, 2008 at 12:06 PM

The sun coming out. That’s natural. It’s one with the blowing clover and the falling rain. But a man driven insane, then programmed by society to kill people just because they’re loving and tolerant?

That’s monster.

I think you’d be hard pressed to find a better example of liberal thought than this. Priceless.

If you, as mayor, support a policy that allows homeowners with small children to own handguns and a child accidently kills itself was said handgun, are you not responsible for the handgun to be in a position to commit the accident?

I don’t like sancutary cities, but claiming, as some did, that Gary Newsome has blood on his hands, as opposed to the actual perp who murdered those people, is asinine.
