Attention, Hot Air commenters: You weren’t banned; Update: Comments (hopefully) fixed

I woke up this morning to a flood of e-mails, some angry and some apologetic, from people wondering why they’d been summarily booted from the site without so much as a word of explanation. The answer: You weren’t. Our web wizard, Mark Jaquith, upgraded HA to the newest version of WordPress last night and it looks like everyone’s registration was reset. A few people have already sent “oh, never mind, I’m back in” messages, so try logging out of your comment account and then logging back in. If that doesn’t work, clear your browser’s cache and try again. If that doesn’t work, e-mail us at the tips address and I’ll refer the problem to Mark to try to get everyone back up and running as soon as possible. I apologize for the confusion and inconvenience.

Update: Some people are in, others are e-mailing to say they’re still having problems. Mark will be addressing this shortly, I’m sure, so please be patient. I myself am momentarily locked out of our Headlines page so that appears to be a universal glitch. Sorry again for the irritation.

Update: Mark tells me that the problem may stem from trying to log in simultaneously to both the main site and the Headlines page. If you can’t log in here, try commenting on a Headlines item. If that works, log out of Headlines and then try logging in here.

We’re working on re-enabling simultaneous logins, so again, please be patient.

Update: I’m suddenly able to log in to Headlines so commenters who weren’t able to get in earlier might want to try again now.

Update: Mark e-mails to say that there was a glitch involving cookies but that it’s been repaired and we should be good to go. I’m seeing commenters logging in below who e-mailed earlier saying they couldn’t get in after following my instructions, so it looks like the problem’s fixed. Repeat the steps I laid out above and you should be fine. If not, please e-mail us again and let us know.

Update: One last note: Mark tells me that the blog should be fine from here on out but that Headlines might be touch and go for awhile as he works on cookies there. So if you’re having trouble commenting there, be patient just a bit longer.
