I've said it before...

They were elected on the promise, even saying it in speeches, they will do the will of the people but quickly began dictating instead of listening.

What did Barbara Boxer say: Elections have consequences.

Well, America is paying for that election thru higher everything.

Right now the Democrats have become so frightened of this debate that they have attempted to ram through appropriations bills without debate or amendment to keep Republicans from forcing the issue to the floor. As a result, both chambers may wind up adjourning without passing anything — appropriations or energy policy. It would be the first time in almost 60 years that Congress went into its summer break without having passed any of the appropriations bills necessary for the next fiscal year.

If they do adjourn without passing the appropriations bills, and the new fiscal year starts October 1, there could be a showdown on a Government shutdown if the Senate Republicans filibuster everything unless offshore drilling is authorized. I'm not sure whether they have the stomach to do that, but it might work IF the entire party is united to make this THE wedge issue of the campaign, and EXPLAIN to the voters that drilling is the only way to bring down oil prices, both in the short term and long term. Long term (2-5 years), when the oil actually comes out of the ground, but also short term, because the same speculators that bid up the price on the anticipation of supply shortages will dump oil contracts in anticipation of increased supply, and try to make money elsewhere. This could be tricky to explain to the average voter who doesn't understand commodity trading as well as Hillary Clinton, so a massive, clearly expressed campaign is needed.

The campaign needs to also stress that the effects of high oil prices go beyond the price of filling up their cars or heating their homes. High diesel prices also increase the cost of trucking products to market, which causes the price of everything else to go up, including food. More Drilling = Cheaper Oil = Cheaper everything else, and more American jobs.

The GOP and John McCain have already begun hammering Barack Obama on his refusal to countenance increased oil production in the US. They will flood the airwaves to remind voters which party has blocked consideration of the option favored by 70% of the electorate.

I certainly hope so. But they also need to explain that, although 41+ Senators can force some issues as a minority, one woman (Pelosi) can block everything if the Democrats have a House majority, even if some Democrats favor offshore drilling. If a voter wants offshore drilling, he/she MUST vote Republican, regardless of other issues, EVEN if the Democrat candidate in the district favors drilling, because that Representative doesn't decide--it's either Pelosi or Boehner. If Pelosi doesn't cave before the election, this could be the Republican Party's way to take back the House.

Wouldn't Nancy WANT to have Bush's so-called failed policies "validated"?

Then she and the Dems can scream and holler about how Bush failed?

Just what the President DID do (repealing the EO) helped drop the price of oil over $20 in the past two weeks. Imagine what would happen if CONGRESS did the same?

Pelosi is a putz.

My new Congressman (Steve Scalise, who took Jindal's old seat) conducted a telephone town hall meeting the other day and REPEATEDLY gave out Pelosi's phone number advising people who are mad about gas prices to call her. The poll conducted during the phone call was about drilling as well. I hope it's an indicator of where the GOP is going with this issue - it's the only thing that will save us from a filibuster-proof Dem majority.

Yesterday, as I listened to an audio of Speaker Pelosi on a related matter [the let's get rid of our parachute, the Strategic Reserve, to lighten the load demand] she said something true: The oil belongs to the American people. [may not be an exact quote but what I remember].
So true.
And the same goes for the oil we can drill for!

Yesterday when I saw Pelosi's short clip explaining she couldn't do anything because of Bush's failed policy, 'incredulous' came to mind.

Is she saying Congress is powerless and being held hostage by the executive branch?

She holds the Speaker of the House position, together with her counterpart in the Senate (and she doesn't even have to fight Reid for the same position), they are the LEADERS of the legislative branch. Yet they couldn't DO anything.

Maybe Pelosi should be filming the commercial

"Help! I am falling. I couldn't get up."

If the Republican party and American people can't take an issue with 70% approval by the American public and turn it into a takeover of the Presidency, Congress and Senate. Then we are doomed to be ruled by the environmental wacko, communist left in a fashion that speaker Pelosi deems to be in our best interest.
Virtually every bill passing out of these broken bodies anymore is unconstitutional and serves only the entrenched incumbants.
If not this issue then I don't see one that will break the cylce of dependence on a bunch of socialist/marxist loosers and may as well forfiet my paycheck and stay home and collect the benefits congress deems me worthy of having.
God Help America!

“What the president would like to do is to have validation for his failed policy,”

What she means:

“What the president would like is to enact a policy that could be successful in reducing energy costs - we cannot have that while he is in office.”

Anybody who does not see what Pelosi, Reid, et al are doing is blind. Or blinded by the light - from Obama’s halo.

“What the president would like to do is to have validation for his failed policy,”

What she means:

“What the president would like is to enact a policy that could be successful in reducing energy costs – we cannot have that while he is in office.”

Anybody who does not see what Pelosi, Reid, et al are doing is blind. Or blinded by the light – from Obama’s halo.

She’s scared it will ruin the views from her seaside home.

You can only see 8 miles out to sea...8 miles. At 30 feet on a cliff you can see 25 miles, maybe. Their argument is flat wrong.
.
I say we fire them all and just vote on everything ourselves. Save half a trillion dollars a year probably.

I don't trust their polls at all. A majority of people favor drilling everywhere and the traitorcrats are opposed to that, so it makes no sense that a majority of people trust traitorcrats on energy. (if a=b and b=c the a=c kinda thing)

Unless one polls in San Fransisco or Cambridge, Mass. All the libs up here are hoping mad at the dems in congress, and that puts a smile on my face...

If Nov results in increased Dem majorities and an Obama presidency I hope more states follow Oklahoma's lead in trying to reestablish states rights per the Constitution. I don't know how many redstaters are going to tolerate a blue state agenda being forced down their throats. Especially once they rediscover the Constitution and learn how un-Constitutional almost everything the Fed does really is.

Allowing a vote in the House will cost Democrats seats no matter which way they vote. A vote for drilling will upset the nutroots and you are likely to see repeats of what happened with Joe Lieberman. A vote against drilling will upset the general population and cost them the seat outright. If Republicans had any sense they would be forcing this issue in the House just like the Senate is doing. It could open the door to regaining a majority.

these polls that favor the democrats say more about the lack of intelligence of the responders than the positions of the party.
