Why Obama snubbed the troops: no photo op allowed

posted at 7:21 am on July 25, 2008 by Ed Morrissey

NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski and Courtney Kube get the skinny on the abrupt cancellation of Barack Obama’s visit to Landstuhl and Ramstein yesterday.  The campaign tried to excuse it by claiming that it wouldn’t be appropriate to visit while on a campaign-funded portion of his trip, but that wasn’t the real problem.  When Obama found out he couldn’t use the visit as a photo op, he canceled:

One military official who was working on the Obama visit said because political candidates are prohibited from using military installations as campaign backdrops, Obama’s representatives were told, “he could only bring two or three of his Senate staff member, no campaign officials or workers.” In addition, “Obama could not bring any media. Only military photographers would be permitted to record Obama’s visit.”

The official said “We didn’t know why” the request to visit the wounded troops was withdrawn. “He (Obama) was more than welcome. We were all ready for him.”

In fact, those same rules applied for the CODEL trip to Iraq and Afghanistan. They serve to keep politicians from exploiting military facilities for political reasons, and to ensure that all visitors get treated fairly. Andrea Mitchell, also of NBC, complained of this very issue during the earlier visits with the troops when she told Chris Matthews that the media couldn’t get access to Obama when visiting troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This makes the decision track very clear.  Obama and his team set up the visits to military installations before going overseas.  After seeing how the media got excluded in Iraq and Afghanistan, they decided it wasn’t worth traveling to Ramstein and Landstuhl to visit the severely wounded troops because they couldn’t bring the campaign and get the photo ops they wanted.  Instead, Obama went shopping in Berlin.

As I wrote yesterday, that’s certainly a revealing set of priorities for a man who wants to lead these troops as Commander in Chief.

You’re a silly person. I assume that you are engaged in a campaign to unseat every Democrat who voted to support the campaign in Iraq, each time, as well as discredit all of those liberal Democrats who spoke in favor of military action there during the previous administration of the cowardly lion.

And yet your schwanzlicha candidate is all fired up to send troops to Darfur, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, and spoke not a single word of opposition to our adventures in Kosovo, that anyone can recall. (Oddly enough, he hasn’t declared any interest in Zimbabwe.)

The Jesus-complex candidate has ruled that our soldiers lives and our money are all well spent there, as opposed to the pointless wasteland that is Iraq.

Explain your flaming hypocrisy.

BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA

I ran his name through the Internet Anangram Server at Wordsmith.org and came up with some interesting phrases:

Cabana Abhors Muskie
Mascara Hankies Bubo
Bareback Human Oasis
Macabre Sauna Kibosh
Abacus Shrink Amoeba
Cameras Nabobs Haiku
Charisma Sauna Kebob
Mania Backhoes Bursa

I’m sure one of those makes sense and has something to do with this thread.

Obama is a typical leftist parasite POS that’s why he didn’t visit the wounded troops. Since there was no “upside” for him he ignored them. He’s a leftist parasite living off the largess of security and comfort provided by people that lay it all on the line for their country.

Obama is filth.

As I said before, if Obama visited me in the hospital after getting wounded in combat, I’d roll over in my bed like the wounded Rangers did to Clinton in ‘93. Obama knows he’s not welcome anywhere near the military, especially in the halls of hospital caring for wounded Soldiers. This is not an official policy, obviously, but rather something that is just understood as a matter of principle. Obama speaks of his patriotism, which is wholly different than a Soldier who shows his patriotism and love for country. Obama neither understands nor respects the military because they have something he does not: a resume of courage, selflessness, and honor.
Thank you, Mr. Obama for not going to Landstuhl. You and your subversive colleagues from the Congress can just stay away, thanks.

Why Obama snubbed the troops: no photo op allowed

A no brainer…

Make NO MISTAKE, the FauxBama bastard, has extreme hate, and contempt for America, and our military.

byteshredder on July 25, 2008 at 11:12 PM

How dare you question his patriotism! Obama just has a unique patriotism as an elite world citizen that you don’t understand. He would give his left testicle and sell his soul to lead the planet to a new age of peace and unity. American patriot-warmongerers can’t touch that level of dedication to the cause he is dedicated to within his own self. You heard that right. What he is dedicated to, for the sake of all citizens of planet earth, is making sure the world is not cheated by his failure to lead. Now that is patriotism! His very being now embodies all of our patriotic vision for our home planet. We’re the ones we’ve been waiting for and he is the vessel for our faith.

So to put it another way, simply “Being Obama” is by it’s very nature “100% pure patriotism.” Whatever he does is by definition furthering his rise to benevolent rule, so no one can dare question his patriotism ever. Unless maybe he were to end his campaign and destroy all hope, in that case he would clearly be unpatriotic and deserving of shame. It would be as if Jesus didn’t follow though with his destiny.

econavenger on July 25, 2008 at 11:15 PM

I certainly question this asshats patriotism!

“We were all ready for him.”

This tells me the military had been informed B’HO was going to meet the troops, and had made preparations for his photo-op visit.

Why else would they make preparations to be “ready for him” if the campaign had not contacted the military for a visit?

J_Gocht on July 25, 2008 at 6:57 PM

J_, I love that you are able to encapsulate the world’s perception so neatly. If the world was so clearly in consensus for action in Kosovo, why did they wait for us? Why didn’t the Europeans just handle this one on their own?

I also love the logic of “one lost stealth bomber”. By this logic, we not only wouldn’t engage in warfare of any kind, we wouldn’t actually fly the planes at all, from the risk of death or injury to our soldiers, the great cost, and the carbon footprint.

Jaibones on July 26, 2008 at 1:39 AM

So, has anyone tried to discuss this with some Obama supporters? They are saying it’s Bush’s fault, meddling in the presidential race.

Since Bush has politicized the Pentagon, he forced Obama not to attend by making the Pentagon call Obama and warn him about politicizing the event.

So it’s not Obama’s fault, and nobody cares about it because it’s not covered in the mainstream news (only on blogs).

Can you imagine the delicious chill it must give Obama to know a whole military base prepared for his visit, and he could just blow them off, knowing how much of their time and energy he’d wasted. It has to be a high for even someone with as much arrogance as he’s demonstrated. A snap of his fingers and he can put people through their paces, just to watch them scramble. What a good feeling that must be as he heads to the gym so a female reporter in heat can rub up against him. He’s really got his mojo workin’.

I won’t say the whole base would have been working to prepare for him, but there likely would have been a number of people…

…people that could have been, and likely wanted to be doing better things.

As for Obamanation getting chills…I think he’s so clueless, he wouldn’t have realized there would have been military members working to prepare for him to arrive, and wouldn’t care if he did.

If he would have crawled back to his hotel and did something other than stage another photo-op in a gym, this might not be so disgusting.

This reminds me of that bastard Clinton when he scratched his fat belly rather than salute the Marine as he boarded Marine One.

Edwards is so toasted he is crumbs.

Slip and Fall taken down by the Enquirer, which I consider to be a Hillary weapon. The Enquirer is great at pre-emptive strike scandal mongering. They did a good job building the Clintons up by running the first strike on the babe stories thus controlling the message

Slimey, I mean Silky, probably turned ashen white not because the Press discovered him at the hotel, but because he knew he was on the Enquirer hit list.

The very FIRST line in an article in today’s UK Telegraph, about the new Prophet, Barack HUSSEIN Obama (PBUH)(SWT)(SAW):

In a magazine interview Obama and his wife Michelle revealed that one of their steadfast house rules is not giving Christmas or birthday presents to Malia, 10, and Sasha, seven.”

Interesting, isn’t it?

I wonder how many other normal households in the US have strict guidelines against both Christmas and Birthday presents?

Obviously Jewish households don’t celebrate Christmas, but they do celebrate Birthdays!

Hmmmmmmmm……..

Oh yeah, MUSLIMS don’t celebrate either Christmas NOR Birthdays!

Interesting, no?

Can you spell, “Taqiyah“???

There was an interview with Obombem after he was told the rules and his comment on why he was not going to visit the vets was “we do not want them to be a distraction.

Since when do wounded military become a distraction except in his political campaign and the real question is raised; “How much of a distraction does Obombem think the entire military, in any form, represents?”
