Michael Reagan had McCain on yesterday..
He asked him straight out, if McCain would be willing to drill ANWR; McCain said: "I'm willing to look at and consider anything...."

McCain then went on to say that even if it were permitted today, it would take ANWR 20 years to produce one drop of oil, and that coastal platforms could be producing within a year.

(B.J. Clinton said it would take 10 years for ANWR to produce when he denied it back in 1997)

Then just a couple of hours later he again falls back to the position ANWR is completely off the table forever.

He is a liar AND a fool.

Now, Correct me if I'm wrong, but it is my understanding that every ship in the world that is capable of setting up the ocean drilling platforms, and the other heavy equipment that is necessary, is completely booked for the next 7 years, and that it would take nearly 3 years to construct new ships able to do the job.

I'm no expert, but isn't it true that ANWR would yield more oil, much sooner than the other options?

All McCain has to do is tour ANWR, put Palin on the ticket and let her make the case for drilling. The Dems might try the "flip-flop" accusation, but it wouldn't work. McCain would be coming toward his base, as opposed to Obama moving away from his.

Plus, debating the Alaska Gov. about ANWR would make the Dems look foolish and hurt them politically.

Why did I even bother typing that?

Snake, I don't think he means to do a damn thing on offshore drilling. His comments on it were tepid and felt more opportunistic than anything else. He said it should be left to the states to get offshore drilling going. He is more than happy to have the feds dictate what happens in ANWR, but the states should decide on the offshore areas. That's a punt. The Governator came out a short time later and said there wouldn't be any drilling off Collyfornia shores. It's just like his talk on immigration. Say the words but don't give up anything; he talks enforcment first, but he keeps Juan Hernandez on his staff and hides him from the media. He supports offshore drilling but leaves it to others to make it happen and he won't change his vote on ANWR. Given McCain's record on screwing his party and his base, I don't believe anything he says until he actually does something meaningful. When he's safe from the voters, he'll do as he pleases. And again, given his history, it's not going to be much we're going to be happy with.

Bumper sticker for this winter:

Cold? Broke?
Burn an environut for warmth.

But I wonder... From a practical matter: How many BTUs are in your average Gore worshiper?

Sure; Al Gore himself would contain as many BTUs as a distilled Bruhathkayosaurus; enough fuel to keep a small town heated for four months,, but aren't most of his followers dried up little husks?

Yeah, I have a friend who pays 582 a month (averaging) for heating oil. They use their wood stove more then ever now. 7000 a year for fule is INSANE!

Whats heating oil going for in the lower 49.

upinak on July 25, 2008 at 6:09 PM

In our area (west of Boston):

High 4.8 Low 4.4 Average 4.639

I don't expect it to improve a lot by heating season.

We use natural gas; I don't expect that to be cheap, either.

Prices go much higher, and I'll bet you'll see a lot of people switching back to coal and wood.

Whats heating oil going for in the lower 49.

Fairbanks they do not go by the gallon, they usually go by a quota and you pay what they assume it will be.

Talkeetna and smaller communities like it are paying anywhere from 4.92 to 5.95 (this is not the bush) for Heating oil. The Bush can pay anywhere up to 9.00 a gallon.

McCain better think about coming up here.... maybe taking a gander. Stuff like this may be off his rocker because he doesn't understand it, but people will ask up here. We aren't afraid to tell him or anyone about problems.

As long as McCain is touting cap and trade and still shilling global warming propaganda, his energy policy is all wet.

If you restrict your carbon emissions, you can’t use or get more carbon based fuels. You’ve just hamstrung your OCS stance, and handicapped any other energy production.

His AGW policy goes to the heart of his economics too. You can’t expect a vibrant economy or abundant energy when you are capping a significant byproduct of both.

HELLO?! IS THIS THING ON?!!!

catmman on July 25, 2008 at 1:24 PM

Exactly right. And the McCain spoksman says they've been hearing from "them frequently," which which I assume he means the climate realists (or 'deniers' as the Algorites disparage them), but says,

McCain believes the bulk of the science demands action on reducing carbon emissions.

"The bulk of the science"? At this point, I'm beginning to hope that gasoline and home-heating oil will reach $5 or $6 a gallon, because if it does the 'bulk' of the US voting public is going to say, "To hell with your 'global warming' crap! I want to drive my car and heat my house, and I want us to drill and mine and do whatever else it takes to get the fossil fuel out of the ground and to me at a reasonable price!"

Then will the McCain campaign listen? If not, the shape-shifter himself, Obambi will surely have a revelation from on high.

ANWR is not going anywhere. If McCain can get more drilling off shore and in other domestic regions, ANWR might well be developed at some later date. However, if Obama wins the election you will not get ANWR or off shore or shale oil. You probably won't get more nuclear power plants either.

Yet, no matter how many times McCain himself proves it to you; that I have been telling you the truth about him, many of you still see him as the only hope for America.

McCain may in fact believe we need to drill in ANWR but given his previous statements and the fact that it has become a symbol for the eco-radicals he can’t change his policy on it at this time. Perhaps after he wins he will have a change of heart.

Knowing McCain, it's more likely that he'll decide that the dangers of Global Warming are so extreme, that he won't allow offshore drilling either.

I have a friend who's an old fashioned country doctor. Her office is in her home and she sometimes makes house calls. All of her patients have her phone number and she doesn't have an answering service.

McCain also wants to transform the transportation sector. Tax credits for zero-emission cars would do much more than mandates on the manufacturing end to move Americans to more efficient models.

Ed. If I'm cold this winter, I'm going to sneak under the barbed wire and scrounge for dirty coal and burn it.

How does efficiency automatically relate to zero emissions? I dislike the combining of the energy crisis/climate "crisis" into one and the same.

I'm not worried about emissions. The air smells/tastes great to me as it is. Tons of old people are out and about. The climate/atmosphere is so hospitable to us humans that I'm thinking of taking my space suit off soon.

Get me some gasoline, or some compressed natural gas, or electricity for my vehicles. The environment is doing just fine.

McCain's views are better than the Dems, but he's still behind the eight ball. (Maybe we can arrange somehow for Lieberman to win a 6 month trip to Israel or something.)

I’m no fan of McCain, but at least he is sticking to what he believes in, regardless of popularity. Unlike Obama…

McCain can legitimately say that ANWR has been debated ad nauseam in Congress and has never achieved a majority,

he could say that, but it would be a lie, since the congress passed it in the 90s, and it was vetoed by Klinton.

There is simply zero chance that a President McCain would be able to get it through a Democrat-controlled Congress

he'd bend over backwards to 'accomodate' the dems.

THEN becomes “the biggest McCain flip-flop yet”,

he's already flipped on offshore drilling, whats one more?

Most think Alaska is part of Russia anyways...

upinak on July 25, 2008 at 12:11 PM
I had a Russian teacher that railed on and on about how 'Alyaska' was really theirs. Good times, learned all sorts of interesting words from that rant.

I guess I'm lucky, I paid $3.79 for gas today ($.05 discount for paying in cash). Still, it's killing us with my husband driving 300 miles a weekend... McCain isn't even trying to get our votes, is he? I didn't know Maverick meant being asinine.
