Major Garrett: If Obama spent more time visiting troops, he’d know they don’t only watch Fox News

If, like me, you missed the first part of this story a few days ago, no worries: The background’s here, replete with video of Obama smirking his way through the jab at Fox. No offense taken, says Garrett, it’s all in good fun — before promptly landing the verbal equivalent of an uppercut to the jaw. And thus did the gloves come off.

Here’s the news page at the American Forces Network website. Lest you doubt that the troops are getting an array of perspectives, check out who’s lined up for the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. slot. Click the image to watch.

Down goes Obama! Down goes Obama!

I guess I’ll have to take your word for it, can’t watch the video, damned video blocker here at work!

What? No Al-Jizzera

RobCon on July 25, 2008 at 1:02 PM

What an awesome story.

wise_man on July 25, 2008 at 1:03 PM

Obama is our worst nightmare, simply because he’s got political skills and the likeability factor(along with white guilt) that could allow him to push hard left policies and actually get them implemented.

jp on July 25, 2008 at 1:03 PM

Obama is a pundit, not a candidate. He’s an actor playing the President, not our Commander in Chief.

Vincenzo on July 25, 2008 at 1:04 PM

dang, the pic of O’REilly and Olberman really says it all.

jp on July 25, 2008 at 1:04 PM

Ouch! LOL

Go Major.

baldilocks on July 25, 2008 at 1:05 PM

Fox & Friends did a bit of investigating and found that the VA Hospitals are mandated to have CNN on. Guess Obama didn’t know that either since he doesn’t visit VA Hospitals.

Redbird on July 25, 2008 at 1:06 PM

Go Major!

That smirk on O’Bama’s face when he said that makes me want to punch him. Arrogant prick.

NOw…Obama said he was only kidding. I bet!

becki51758 on July 25, 2008 at 1:07 PM

actually, jp, my worst nightmare involves one too many tequilas and helen thomas, but close enough.

my bold prediction is that this berlin think will tank obama. no way the american people let a candidate get away with making an impassioned speech to a delirious throng of… germans. and if americans do let him get away with it, well, to borrow from dennis miller, i’m not going to move out of the country, but i will stay indoors more…

Maybe Obama would have gotten a bounce in the polls if he HAD ridden into Jerusalem on a donkey. Instead, he gets me mocking him in Starbucks.

Which was almost as much fun.

mjk on July 25, 2008 at 1:08 PM

You would think as a US Senator with years of experience qualifying him to be President he’d know how Armed Forces Radio and Television worked, since he would have voted on their appropriations, etc..

Uh, never mind.

I like Major’s gravitas. He’s a consistently serious reporter.

I can’t wait for the next few SNL’s. The summer/fall s/b interesting. Materials will abound, from both sides.

Entelechy on July 25, 2008 at 1:11 PM

Say, whatever became of Obama’s “my committee” Tuzla-ism? Did anyone call him on that?

mikeyboss on July 25, 2008 at 1:12 PM

Turns out Obama’s latest claim doesn’t line up with reality. The campaign claims the visit would’ve violated Pentagon reg and would be seen as campaign stop by the military, but no one alerted the Pentagon to that.

The only reason he canceled is because he couldn’t bring the press corps. Lovely.

amerpundit on July 25, 2008 at 1:12 PM

Alas, s/b SNLs.

Entelechy on July 25, 2008 at 1:12 PM

Dr.Cwac.Cwac on July 25, 2008 at 1:15 PM

Dearest Mr. Obama,

Not only does the current President direct the armed forces to watch Fox News exclusively, he also has directed the surgeon general to monitor Chris Matthews leg on a daily basis.

Hey, I was flipping through the schedule and noticed that they watch Red Eye on Sundays! That must be fun.

“He (Obama) throws a cheap shot with a smile on his face.”

Yep. Like he’ll raise your taxes while grinning ear to ear.

I have notice Major Garrett has been in the tank for BO most of the time (didn’t some reporter say it was impossible to spend so much time in the presence of greatness and not get affected???). So it was nice to see him objective (and dare I say, snarky?) for a change.

HawaiiLwyr on July 25, 2008 at 1:17 PM

Gobsmacking delicious! Maybe Barry will take up the Ft Hood group on the townhall offer.

After the state polls yesterday shows Barry sliding backwards we get another one today.

New Mexico. Barry +6. Last month it was +8. Month before +9.

Team Obama, keep up the good work.

“Lord—Protect my family and me,” reads the note published in the Maariv daily. “Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will.”

Obama’s Western Wall prayer.

It looks like the lord has his work cut out on the “guard against pride” issue.

MsUnderestimated on July 25, 2008 at 1:20 PM

I wrote about this here. We’re a military family living in Korea and all we get is the Armed Forces Network (not Armed Forces TV as Obama said). We get CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox…

Soldiers watch Fox because they appreciate the lack of bias they tolerate under the BBC or CNN.

“Lord—Protect my family and me,” reads the note published in the Maariv daily. “Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will.”

Funniest thing is that I was told by Israelis before I went to the Western Wall with my prayers that I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone what my prayer was. Something of it being a communication between me and the Good Lord. So publishing the prayer in a newspaper, probably not keeping it between the Lord and himself….

It’s like the same nonsense from the left who’ve been whining for years about Armed Forces Radio running an hour of Rush.

No, they’re just not satisfied controlling 99% of the media and information we get. Any dissenting opinion must be silenced.

Entelechy on July 25, 2008 at 1:34 PM

I didn’t think that was a “cheap shot” at all… frankly, Obama’s demeanor scared the crap out of me. If there was a video of President Bush speaking like this, complaining about some kind of media monopoly, the left would be screaming bloody murder from the rooftops. I eagerly await the left’s condemnation of Obama’s bullying here. The totalitarian streak on the left is very distressing.

dave_lantos on July 25, 2008 at 1:34 PM

I am sincerely hoping that when B.O, gets back to his home soil and sees how much damage his Most Excellent World Tour has done for America’s image overseas, that smirk is going to fall off his kisser real quick. Hopefully, his poll numbers will start to plummet right after that as well.

B.O. truly stinks.

Israeli paper publishes Obama Western Wall prayer

The paper’s decision to make the note public drew fire. The rabbi in charge of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinovitz, said publishing the note intruded in Obama’s relationship with God.

and of course the people who watch Fox News, who already know that Fox is fair and balanced, that know that there is no set-up with the president to demand that Fox is the only network on military bases know this.

And the people who don’t watch Fox News and won’t see this report will continue to believe that Fox is biased, and that the president probably demands that Fox is shown at military bases… they’ll go on watching the real echo chamber of MSNBC and Keith Olbermann as he continues to lie to his followers.

I’ve seen nothing but Fox News and ESPN on all televisions in dining facilities and common areas. Is there really any question as to why? Does Obama really not know why Fox is the station of choice? These tree-hugging dirt-worshipping hippies have never given our soldiers an ounce of credit for what they’ve accomplished. Nothing but negative and sensational yellow journalism.

Doesn’t much matter to me, except that someone REALLY doesn’t want Obama’s prayer to be heard by G-d. So removing is bad, publishing it is worse. A seminary/yeshiva student would know that too.

Hmm, putting on my tinfoil hat.

:)

“If Obama spent more time visiting troops, he’d know they don’t only watch Fox News.” But if some of them only watch FNC it’s because they know how completely skewed to the left the other channels are. The lefties are like the princess and the pea is FNC. Tolerance is something that only The Rightwingers need to embrace because they are perfect, in every way.

Christine on July 25, 2008 at 2:37 PM

madmonkphotog on July 25, 2008 at 2:45 PM

Bottom Line: No big time photo OP, no visit!
Obama despises the Military, as do most Marxists.

Any focus of attention from the media that diverts attention
to Real Americans is not on his agenda. Those of finer character, those who embrace American Values and Patriotism do not fit his Agenda. Those whose focus is on Victory disgust Marxist punks like BO.

It is All about Him.

DOD does not put our brave battle wounded on display for campaign purposes. Nor should it ever. If he had an ounce of moral character her would have made time to honor those that fought for Freedom. It just was too much to ask or expect.

He is unfit for Command and unfit for public office. Period!

old trooper on July 25, 2008 at 2:57 PM

I guess all that “uniting” and “wall-breaking” are reserved for “Barack the world-citizen”, not “Barack the presidential candidate”. Because “Barack the presidential candidate” know that he have to “slam” Fox News every now and then to maintain his “street cred” with the loonie left.

JULY 16 STORY NOT PUBLICIZED UNTIL JULY 24
The New Republic “End of the Affair” by Gabriel Sherman
re: NYT

Chief political correspondent Adam Nagourney received a terse e-mail from Barack Obama’s press office on the front-page piece titled “Poll Finds Obama Isn’t Closing Divide on Race.”

Nagourney responds. But Obama camp not satisfied and mounts its own publicity campaign vs. Nagourney who whines:

“I’ve never had an experience like this, with this campaign or others,” Nagourney tells me. “I thought they crossed the line. If you have a problem with a story I write, call me first. I’m a big boy. I can handle it. But they never called. They attacked me like I’m a political opponent.”

Hey, Nagourney! Obama’s camp DID send you an email. All anyone ever gets from the Obama camp is an email. When McCain showed the good etiquette to have a messenger bring Obama a personal note, Obama’s staff got angry at the inconvenience caused as it had not simply been emailed.

LOL! What’s good for the goose = gander Nagourney & NYT. You can dish out the bias and negativity but can’t take it.
