Michelle to McCain: The media is not your friend

Oh, now, I wouldn’t say that. I’d say they’re more like an ex-wife: They still love him, they’re just not in love with him. They still wave from their doorway and say hi when he drives over to their house on Friday night to pick up the kids — and of course you-know-who’s always there, his arm draped around their shoulder, thousand-watt smile and bad-ass shades glinting audaciously in the sunlight. The bastard.

Even so, credit the boss here with the single most acidic enunciation of the word “Maverick” ever captured on film. Exit question: Should conservatives really be making a big deal about the site of Obama’s Germany speech a week after the left had a collective seizure about the New Yorker cover? Intent is what’s supposed to matter, yes? Anyone think he intends to coopt Nazi imagery?

Anyone think he intends to coopt Nazi imagery?

Those aren’t the Nazi’s I knew…

rmgraha on July 22, 2008 at 9:00 PM

Should conservatives really be making a big deal about the site of Obama’s Germany speech a week after the left had a collective seizure about the New Yorker cover?

Bit of a difference between a cartoon by a western journalist and giving a speech at a landmark with direct links to the Nazis.

amerpundit on July 22, 2008 at 9:02 PM

The media is not your friend

and never will be.

The Boss is looking lovely as usual.

Dunno, but between this and this

I think it has more to do with questioning his judgement and furthering the argument that he flunks history. Would the left give McCain a pass if he did the same?

I agree that it’s not worth making a big deal out of, but it’s worth bringing up at least.

Hollowpoint on July 22, 2008 at 9:09 PM

Michelle is still the best opinion person on the air. Sharp as a tack, loaded for bear. FNC needs her on the air every day.

Zorro on July 22, 2008 at 9:09 PM

Michelle does rock.

Bit of a difference between a cartoon by a western journalist and giving a speech at a landmark with direct links to the Nazis.

Same principle, though. I could understand getting upset about a rally at Nuremberg since the Nazi resonance there is unmistakable, but if we have no reason to think he wanted the victory column for any better reason than that it symbolizes victory, what’s the big deal?

Allahpundit on July 22, 2008 at 9:15 PM

Michelle to McCain: The media is not your friend

You got that right……………

…….. I have an uneasy feeling that even if John McCain wins the election, the Media will call it for Obama, and run the story of voter fraud to the point of ripping this country apart.

Seven Percent Solution on July 22, 2008 at 9:15 PM

I was watching it live this morning, patiently waiting for Michelle to mention HotAir.

They still love him, they’re just not in love with him.

Now we know how that feels :-(

SO FNC is a few days behind HA and AoSHQ (and others) when it comes to talking about the Victory Column thing….gotta go check out the t-shirt contest, sounds fun.

HawaiiLwyr on July 22, 2008 at 9:16 PM

The audacity!

By the way, I’m trying to figure out how to spell that phonetically…it sounded like Mehh-verick to me.

That seems like a rather fitting title, all things considered.

Do you remember how crazy some on the left went when Romney announced his presidential bid in front of the Henry R. Ford Museum? Ford was an anti-Semite or something.

I, for one, don’t want to make a big deal about where Obama is making his speech. Except that it is in a foreign country at all.

Hey, McCain is coming for a visit tonight and tomorrow to my area – small-town N.E.Penna. He will appear for a town-hall meeting Wed morning at 10am. But now I’m wondering about the time – many people are at work at 10am. The place holds 1800 people – I hope there are not alot of empty chairs.

An analysis of federal election records shows that the amount of money journalists contributed so far this election cycle favors Democrats by a 15:1 margin over Republicans, with $225,563 going to Democrats, only $16,298 to Republicans .

But, of course, the personal opinions of reporters never affects, consciously or not, their reporting. And those layers of editorial fact-checking will weed out any accidental bias.

And there are no absurdities that people will reject in order to believe another absurdity.

SteveMG on July 22, 2008 at 10:04 PM

While Michelle thinks that 300 foriegn policy advisors did not have a clue to pick a site referenced to Hitler, one has to ask——did they really?

Or did they get so indignant when the first site was lambasted, Obama said “find me the worst site in the country and book it”?

MM 2/18/2008: John McCain is incapable of disagreeing with strict immigration enforcement activists without lambasting their character, honesty, and integrity. We’re “nativists” and Jim Crow-style racists who should just “f**k” off. He couldn’t help sneering at former GOP rival Mitt Romney’s business experience as dishonorable and greedy. And his personal vindictiveness toward GOP Hill staffers who have opposed his positions is well-known.

Wiseman: What my good buddy zorro is lying about here is when McCain allegedly told one man – “f-you,” not ‘the conservative base’ as is his fantasy.

Lying about McCain =/= disagreeing with what his policy positions are. It is these people who are using the methods are the style of liberals at DKos or DU. As those people at the liberal blogs have been doing to Bush over the past 7 years. wise_man on July 22, 2008 at 11:20 PM

Think of the MSM and Obama joined at the hip, then look at Goebbels Principles of Propaganda..

————–

1. Propagandist must have access to intelligence concerning events and public opinion.(MSM, Polls, etc)

2. Propaganda must be planned and executed by only one authority.(MSM)

a. It must issue all the propaganda directives.(NY Times, MSM)

b. It must explain propaganda directives to important officials and maintain their morale.(DNC, MSM, NY Times)

c. It must oversee other agencies’ activities which have propaganda consequences(lib blogs etc.. )

3. The propaganda consequences of an action must be considered in planning that action.(B.O. tells the MSM what to say)

4. Propaganda must affect the enemy’s policy and action.

a. By suppressing propagandistically desirable material which can provide the enemy with useful intelligence

b. By openly disseminating propaganda whose content or tone causes the enemy to draw the desired conclusions

c. By goading the enemy into revealing vital information about himself

d. By making no reference to a desired enemy activity when any reference would discredit that activity

Gatordoug on July 22, 2008 at 11:44 PM

“[Expletive] you! I know more about this than anyone else in the room,” shouted McCain at Cornyn.

Cornyn should have decked the temper tantrum throwing old coot right there.

I caught up with the Straight Talk Express in Darlington, SC. McCain finished his stump speech and said he’d take some questions.

My hand shot up. He pointed to me. I stood up and asked,

Senator McCain, current immigration policy is doubling US population within the lifetimes of today’s children. Since you support this policy, will you at least say when we should stop?

One billion people? Two billion? Three?

McCain’s eyes narrowed, and his head drew down into his shoulders. “You and I, sir,” he began slowly, emphasizing each word and glaring at me as if I were a poisonous insect, “obviously have differing views on immigration.

“But let me make one thing perfectly clear,” he continued, his voice rising, “there is no room in the Republican Party for bigots, xenophobes, or racists.”

I’ll say this for the intelligence of South Carolina Republicans as compared to that of New Hampshire Democrats: no one applauded McCain.

Has anyone else noticed that there are several people here who have made it their mission to convince as many conservatives not to vote for the winner of the republican primary on a conservative site by rehashing what we already know about McCain? These people seem to be acting just like democrats, who want the same things that they do. McCain to fail. And when McCain loses in a two man race, there is only one other outcome. They insult other posters, lie about McCain and regurgitate the liberal talking points from places such as the move on pac’s website.

Do you wonder who they are, why they are here and what they hope to accomplish?

Michelle to McCain: The media is not your friend

I think that despite Michelle’s ability to be P*ssed off by McCain saying his signature “my friends” comment, that pressing him like this is not going to get McCain to reevaluate his stance on illegal immigration.

I sure hope that she finds a better way to focus her anger on McCain from sniping at him to maybe even finding a way to convince him that his approach is the incorrect one.

Constantly laying out the snarky comments is not succeeding in any subsistence way, so far.

wise_man on July 23, 2008 at 12:20 AM

NOw that I come to think of it … Quite a lot would be forced to return to the daily kos if the big old dog were ever to be made a moderator. That is indeed a good thing.

wise_man on July 23, 2008 at 12:21 AM

wise_man on July 22, 2008 at 10:45 PM

I’m not thrilled about McCain, but I have decided to support him anyway now that he’s the only way to stop Obama. So I’m on your side in this debate. HOWEVER, you’re not really helping with your abrasive comments toward long-time Hot Air participants. They are not trolls for being unable to overcome their hatred of McCain. That hatred has been building for a quarter of a century for some of them, and for good reason. Like you, I hope that all conservatives, Republicans, moderates, and Blue Dog Democrats will come around by November and decide they hate Obama and his socialist policies far more than they dislike McCain and go ahead and vote for the (R). But if they don’t, they don’t. I think you may be pushing some of them even farther away from the possibility of holding their noses and voting for McCain when the time comes. Anger breeds stubbornness in us independent-minded types. That’s a good thing, most of the time. It means we dig in and hold strong to our principles. But in this case, a little respect and understanding will go a lot farther than denigration and criticism. These are NOT trolls, wise_man. They’re good conservatives, and they need to arrive at their decision on their own. Stop trying to bully them into voting for McCain. We all know by now where you stand. You’ve done what you can. It’s time to trust good conservatives to come to their own conclusions and do what they think is right.

aero on July 23, 2008 at 12:28 AM

I think that despite Michelle’s ability to be P*ssed off by McCain saying his signature “my friends” comment

What normal person, at least conservative, would not be “p*ssed off” by the nasty old coot’s incessant use of that?

I sure hope that she finds a better way to focus her anger on McCain from sniping at him

wise_man on July 23, 2008 at 12:20 AM

She is not “sniping” at him, she is delivering body blows and that is what is getting to you so much you can hardly bare it and something tells me that she is not going to McShutup for you.

MB4 on July 23, 2008 at 12:29 AM

The people that I have been commenting on have not been acting like “good conservatives,” aero. For the people who have been trolling and you know who they are by their actions, I have previously been directing my comments toward them. And them alone, not every single person who is dissatisfied with McCain and expresses so here.

But I will do as you ask.

wise_man on July 23, 2008 at 12:33 AM

NOw that I come to think of it … Quite a lot would be forced to return to the daily kos if the big old dog were ever to be made a moderator. That is indeed a good thing.

wise_man on July 23, 2008 at 12:21 AM

If you and BigOldDog had your way, yourselves and the few remaining members of HotAir could all spend your time idolizing McCain. You’d have so much free time on your hands you could all practice marching in lock-step and admiring your own echoes.

what a ‘good conservative’ you are. I can not counter your opinion, so your opinion stands without rebuttal from me. Congratulations.

You could try but I don’t think you will because advocating the censoring of conservative opinions on a conservative blog site merely because they won’t conform to your perception of group-think, (which is quite antithetical to conservatism), is preposterous.

FloatingRock on July 23, 2008 at 12:51 AM

wise_man on July 23, 2008 at 12:33 AM

I appreciate that, wm, I really do. I know for a certainty that many of the commenters I’ve seen you butt heads with over McCain in this thread and others have been here a long, long, long time, and I have seen many of them comment repeatedly in the past — before McCain was our candidate — in ways that convince me quite thoroughly that they do indeed hold strong conservative values. Small government, fiscal restraint, ethical behavior, victory in war, lower taxes, etc. I, too, have felt and expressed frustration with our conservative friends who will not support the Republican nominee. But I completely understand and respect their feelings. I felt railroaded and enormously betrayed when we got stuck with McCain. I no longer consider myself to be a Republican as a result of the McCain nomination. I’m a conservative who is forced to vote Republican because they’re the closest I can find to what I am and have a chance of winning. But I’m more of a pragmatist than some, and I can vote for McCain over Obama without hesitation. It’s clear to me which candidate is more dangerous to America, and I will do what I can to protect the future of this country and preserve the Republican party’s chances for when a conservative movement leader once again comes on the scene to push back the tide of socialism.

The media loves Maverick. They’re even trying to help him pick his running mate so he’ll have the best chance to win.

I tried to warn everybody what was happening, but nooooooooo, everybody insisted on their own little niche candidate which only appealed to a narrow faction within the old coalition, (we’d all be compelled to vote for him after the nomination, we were frequently told), and just like I said, we ended up with McCain as a result.

I blame you, Aero! You informed us all that, like clockwork, whichever candidate you support always loses! Knowing about your rotten luck you could have done the honorable thing and sacrificed yourself on the alter of McCain to sink his campaign, but noooooooo, you had to support the only candidate trying to appeal to the entire base!

You’re the worst!

/just kidding

By the way, I didn’t ask you to never respond to those who say nasty things about McCain. I suggested that you try a more respectful and reasonable approach and attempt to understand where they’re coming from. Besides, I can’t make you stop saying what you think here. I’m just another commenter. I’m trying to help, though, because I agree with you about the need to either support McCain or at least stop undermining him. Rush has the right approach. He’s been tearing down McCain for years, but Rush has mostly stopped saying truly nasty things about McCain now that he’s the only alternative to Obama. Rush seems to be mostly focusing on tearing down Obama since he can’t credibly build up McCain at this point. I wish that were the direction our anti-McCain conservative friends here at Hot Air would go. You see how much more constructive that suggestion is than telling them they’re stupid Kosling trolls when they’re clearly not?

LOL! You remember my curse! And you’re right, I blocked it out of my head in the course of grieving for the Fred candidacy that was not to be. I need to change my allegiance to Obama ASAP, before I kill McCain’s tiny tendril of a chance. And I totally need to shut up about Palin, don’t I? I’m shocked and horrified that I’ve endangered the mission so thoughtlessly. ;-)

aero on July 23, 2008 at 1:12 AM

You picked the wrong place for a speech BHO.

Seig Heil! Seig Heil! Seig Heil!

Yes we can. Yes we can. Yes we can.

What’s the difference?

FloatingRock on July 23, 2008 at 1:05 AM

Oh, and I apologize abjectly for not supporting McCain before he got the nomination, which would indeed have ensured that he lost. All I can do is claim that he took me by surprise. I thought he was dead in the water the summer before. (Also, I’m pretty sure the Fates know when I’m lying. I tried to pretend that Fred wasn’t my guy for awhile, but he tanked anyway.)

When the election is over we’ll all honor your sacrifice and welcome you back into the fold. You can save a link to this thread as proof when you return.

Here’s an idea: move to San Francisco and immerse yourself in liberal ideology. Like a spy, don’t even think in your native language, it’s too risky. You’ll have to learn their groupthink and not only live by it, but also integrate it into your system. Let some of your conservative friends in on your plan and specify that, after the election is over, they’re to come to San Francisco to deprogram you. Give them written authority to do whatever it takes to save your from the leftist dogma you’ve been exposed to.

You might even want to record a video for yourself to inform your alternate self of your true identity, as Quaid did in Total Recall.

FloatingRock on July 23, 2008 at 1:30 AM

FloatingRock on July 23, 2008 at 1:30 AM

Okay, you made me laugh out loud for real with that one. I’m sure the Fates wouldn’t even think to look in San Francisco for undercover conservatives. Haha!

aero on July 23, 2008 at 1:35 AM

The moles hijack every thread and make it about McCain these days.
TheBigOldDog on July 22, 2008 at 10:33 PM

They are lucky I don’t control the ban hammer. Anyway, best to just ignore them thereby preventing them from hijacking the thread.
TheBigOldDog on July 22, 2008 at 11:05 PM

Perhaps you might glance up at the top of this thread where it says:

Michelle to McCain: The media is not your friend

How can one hijack a thread about McCain by discussing McCain?

You McCainiacs are just like the Obamanites: You don’t like what people say about your guy; you can’t really defend him through the application of logic and common sense, so you seek to censor them…. Or use the ‘race card’ when discussion of llegal immigration isn’t going the way you want it.

Or accuse them of being Democrat operatives, when it is obvious to everyone with half a brain that they are hard core conservatives.

It is very fitting that you use the same tactics that the left uses: When there is little of value to the guy you are shilling for, all you can do is either censor them, demonize them, or use ‘the big lie’ tactics.

As I suggested to wise_man above, let’s try to stop eating our own, hmmm? I think it’s clear that most of us here are just trying to do what we think is the best and right thing to do regarding whether or not to support McCain. I’ve reluctantly decided I’m going to vote for McCain, but I’m not going to try to force you to. I hope that others on both sides will decide to adopt a more respectful tone with each other. When all is said and done, the great majority of us are on the same side.

aero on July 23, 2008 at 1:50 AM

Awwwww, crap! I mean I’m NOT going to vote for McCain! I’m moving to San Francisco to campaign for Obama! Bad aero! Bad, bad!

You see how terrible an undercover operative I am, FloatingRock? Not 20 minutes after the Grand Plan is hatched, and I revert to the truth that I’m really intending to vote for McCain. I’ll never fool the Fates. I’m just too honest.

aero on July 23, 2008 at 1:53 AM

In Total Recall they used technology to alter Quaid’s mind, but that’s just sci-fi. In San Francisco they’ve resorted to various mind altering substances to achieve similar ends. The SF city government has been releasing illegal alien crack dealers back onto the streets of under served areas to help evenly distribute the substances necessary to their continued rule over the city.

FloatingRock on July 23, 2008 at 2:12 AM

I just realized that the sleazy Recall salesman in Total Recall is named McClain.

FloatingRock on July 23, 2008 at 2:23 AM

Even so, credit the boss here with the single most acidic enunciation of the word “Maverick” ever captured on film.

Wow, that was great! I hope somebody clips that out & uses it as a sound board on one of the conservative talk shows.

Wiseman: I would do what I could to weed out the trolls, if I could. And in the previous case, I pointed out how the previous person was lying.

Does anyone think Reagan intended to honor the SS when he gave a speech at a cemetery where a few were buried?

MarkTheGreat on July 23, 2008 at 7:10 AM

The media hates McCain – yeah right!

That’s why CBS edited out another stupid blunder of his out of an interview last night and aired some bullsh*t answer to another question in its place.

Yes! They hate him! They try to save his as* with editing, but they hate him!

Hilllllarious!

Dave Rywall on July 23, 2008 at 8:17 AM

Intent is what’s supposed to matter, yes? Anyone think he intends to coopt Nazi imagery?

Of course not, but isn’t that why conservatives are making a big deal out of it? Precisely because it proves once again how useful Obama’s judgment is?

Had he intended that imagery, it wouldn’t be a gaffe.
