ABC: Hey, how come Obama isn’t wearing armor at the Baghdad airport?

There’s an obvious answer to that question and Jake Tapper knows it, but rather than assert it himself he retreats into the “Look for McCain’s allies to claim” dodge. Fair enough. Here’s me being a McCain ally, and here’s the claim. Photos aplenty at Yahoo News. A better question is, why didn’t Obama put on some kevlar anyway to make things look more dangerous than they are? Points for honesty!
The airport-kevlar metric of Iraq’s security is actually a longstanding tradition on lefty blogs per the following golden oldies, touted at the time as a reminder that not even senior U.S. officials were safe in Baghdad with an army around to protect them. “Look for Obama’s allies to claim” now that progress is considerably more nuanced than any one photograph can capture.

If the U.S. Army were to allow a major American figure to be in a situation where there was more than the remotest chance of him/her being shot they wouldn’t being doing their job. The chances of the plane, coming or going, crashing is probably more likely.

I know you’re being sarcastic (because anyone would have to be when saying anything relating to “honesty” when talking about Barry O), but I guarantee this was actually discussed in the Obama camp. I’m sure there was a “should he or shouldn’t he” (wear the armor). Upon realizing that he’d look foolish armored up next to non-armor wearing Petraeus, I’m sure the final decision was reached, because he (or his camp) realized those images would come back here and he’d look stupid. Granted, only the blogs and Fox may have played it up. Now, of course he knew he’d get hit with blog posts like this one for not wearing it, which as you point out is basically admitting the security gains, but I think he’s betting that this version of the story will be shorter lived.

Let’s just be happy a US Senator is over there. Hopefully he’ll pick up a weapon and help lead our troops in this noble rescue mission and finally “get it” that we’re there to help these people so deserving of pity, empathy and sympathy… but even more appropriately a way forward from fear to hope.
I highly doubt though Senator Obama is there for anything more than basketball though :-(.

C) With the MSM Press actively campaigning for him, how can anyone trust where the picture was actually taken, and maybe he was wearing it, but then removed it, put on a clean shirt, and posed for a photo op in a secure location.
