Good news: Obama to be president for the next “eight to 10 years”

posted at 8:10 pm on July 20, 2008 by Allahpundit

A harmless slip but nonetheless post-worthy because (a) our commenters seem to be enjoying it, (b) if ABC thinks it’s worth mentioning, I guess it’s news, (c) there’s a school of thought in this election, more so than in any other that I can remember, that every word from a candidate’s mouth is capital-S Significant, so here’s something for tomorrow’s lesson, and (d) it gives me an excuse to link Karl’s post, which ties in to the question being put to the Messiah here. Why won’t he take questions from foreign journalists, anyway?

How might it be interpreted, in today’s political climate, to to think, even in passing, that President For Life Obama sounds more plausible than, say, President For Life McCain?

OK, there may be some extenuating circumstance in the latter’s case.

(6 commas in a single sentence, a personal best)

Perhaps Messianic years are different.

“Those that have experience in foreign affairs don’t have those doubts.”

MirCat on July 20, 2008 at 10:36 PM

I had to smirk at that too. What a strange way to talk.

Entelechy on July 20, 2008 at 10:53 PM

well at least this shows he has read the Constitution. now, if he could just work on his reading comprehension.

Ya but he left off the next sentence:

“Those that have experience in foreign affairs don’t have those doubts. They know I’m not up to the task.”

LOL. Spoken with authority.

Heh, TheBigOldDog

The interviewer said “the perception is that you don’t have experience in foreign affairs”, or something to this effect.

It’s not only foreign affairs. Speaking of perceptions, from a very liberal, and fearful writer.

Arrogance and ignorance personified.

Swell!

Actually technically speaking he could be president for 10 years by doing the following
1 Win the election and become president and serve 4 years
2 Swap spots for the 2012 election with his VP. So his VP would run for president in 2012 and he’d be the VP
3 Half way through the that term have that pres step down and he’d serve from 2015 to 2017, IE 2 years
4 Run for a second non consecutive term in 2016 and server that one for 4years.

I know, fat chance of any of this happening. (If he wins he’d try to serve 2 consecutive terms which would mean only 8 years.)

Dave_d on July 21, 2008 at 12:14 AM

did he throw in the extra 2 years because it takes more time leading with 57 states.

This guy is an idiot. only one dumber then nobama is his supporters , they make a box of rocks look like rocket scientist

Mojack420 on July 21, 2008 at 12:16 AM

I’m tellin’ ya’, drugs do things to the brain.

How many of these Obama-Fries have we heard now?

Let’s see: one bomb that did in Pearl Harbor (so Obama has said), 57 states and counting make for the U.S.A., and don’t get me started on the wandering stirfry that is his “autobiography”.

Oh, and deeming himself a “head of state” (among many “heads of state” according to obama and his campaign)…

S on July 21, 2008 at 12:25 AM

Classic projection. Remember those saying “Bush will find a way to extend his term indefinitely” a few years ago? And he never claimed his presidency would go to 2010.

How did this guy make it through Harvard Law, not to mention securing the nomination to run for leader of the most powerful nation on earth? I mean, I’m sure some of those national budgets he’ll have to work on if he wins will have bigger numbers than 8 or 10.

On the other hand, I now understand why he believes he can find the money in the national budget for all his new programs, if his math skills are this bad.

Yeah. “Don’t listen to my critics. Listen to me make meaningless declarations for unnamed supporters. That’s what is really newsworthy, especially here in Europe.”

Remember this from a few months ago?
BarryO’s afraid of being waylaid by some Eurofunky journalistas ‘cuz he doesn’t have the fortitude to treat them like they oughta be treated. I don’t know much about Oddo, but at least he knows how to address the press.

And here we see the net result of instituting an affirmative action policy at Harvard.

Lincoln on July 21, 2008 at 1:52 AM

I think Mr. Barack-O has a definite problem with numbers, or dates, or both.

In the first chapter of his Dreamy book, he says his GF got all excited, sold the house and packed up to go to Hawaii before it was a state, so that was before 1959. A little further on, he says it was 1960. Still later, he says “Hawaii. To my family newly arrived in 1959…” (BO’s mother was still in HS in Seattle in 1960). And that’s only the first chapter, the date confusion continues throughout the book.

Can you imagine this guy citing case law as a Supreme Court clerk?

Dan Quayle was much smarter.

Halley on July 21, 2008 at 6:33 AM

What if he’s serious?

labrat on July 21, 2008 at 7:05 AM

The “funny” thing is, if this was Bush who slipped and said this or McCain there would be BOLD 180pt headlines on every paper about a Constitution changing Chavez-ian power grab by the GOP.

Beyond that, is he not aware of term limits or is he just an idiot?

I’m sorry but a candidate for POTUS not knowing term limits isn’t a huge issue, but it’s an issue.

I have now figured out what it takes to be a true follower of B.O.! All it takes is a simple two step process:

1) A willingness to totally suspend belief and follow blindly.

2) A lobotomy.

pilamaye on July 21, 2008 at 7:29 AM

Unless he turns on his MSM creators I truly believe he will be president for life. Once elected the MSM will pull out all the stops to ensure that there creation achieves the greatness they have planned for him. His only failure will come if he turns on them and then we will see the mother of all media wars as they try to bring him down. What they fail to realize is that they have little power over their creation but he has almost unlimited power over them. I do believe he will be in office far longer than expected but on the bright side the complete destruction of what we know as the MSM is at hand.

jmarcure on July 21, 2008 at 7:43 AM

It takes a special brand of narcissistic arrogance for Obama to assume that he’s going to be elected to one term, let alone two-and-a-half(!), before he’s even secured his party’s nomination. He hasn’t even officially beaten Hillary yet, but he’s already claiming victory over McCain . . . and the two Republican nominees who follow him!

But I guess we shouldn’t be surprised by any amount of arrogance coming from the guy who modestly announced that he is “the one we’ve been waiting for.”

Now where were we?

That Newsweek article by Eleanor Clift was funny the way she got in the cheap shot at McCain by saying the equivalent of the New Yorker cover would be a cartoon of President McCain in assisted living.

The equivalent of a Black Panther Michelle and islamic Hussein Obama would be a caricature of McCain as a fighter pilot or a POW.

Clift worries the cartoon might overshadow the revelation that Europeans are slobbering over Obama while they hated Bush

Euro-slobber is hardly a plus

You could blame 20 years of Rev. wright for confusing Obama on the details but that would not explain the wisdom of choosing G– D-mn America Wright as his cheerleader in the first place

Of course the troops youve met with dont have those doubts, there can be no doubt you are wholly unqualified and inexperienced. As well as a plethora of other shortcomings. Go play with your purple crayon and leave reality to those who know how to deal with it.

Viper1 on July 21, 2008 at 8:41 AM

Yes, 8 to 10 could sound like a prison term, but remember, he could be out in 4 for good behavior.

Perhaps Messianic years are different.

I want to know when the MSM is going to report on the huge crowd of people standing around outside Bethlehem last night, peering into the eastern sky, waiting for the glimpse of a new star.

Yoop on July 21, 2008 at 9:21 AM

Cut silly Obambi some slack. He’s probably ventured the idea before and Buzzy Ginsburg, Anthony Kennedy, and Stephen Breyer probably told him “they’d see what they could do.”

BHO – needs that 9th and 10th year to see those 57 or so states.
