Video: Gore’s gas-guzzling entourage?

posted at 2:35 pm on July 19, 2008 by Allahpundit

Anyone willing and able to fact-check this? I don’t know nearly enough about cars to recognize hybrid models on sight, but I have to assume that’s what these are. Not even a hypocrite of the Goracle’s magnitude would dare roll up to a speech on gas prices and conservation in these hogs. What did he use to get to Nutroots Nation, I wonder? An armor-plated Humvee?

Watch it if only for the part with the chauffeur.

“Sacrifice for thee, but not for me” – indeed.

…murmurings of the little harp-girl’s song in Heinrich Heine’s 1844 poem “A Winter’s Tale”

I know the authors, I know the tune,
I know it line for line
In public, water is all they preach;
While in secret they guzzle wine.

…the swine!

European countries also have an unrivaled public transportation system that allows them to have $8 a gallon gas. We who live in the suburbs and rural areas in certain MidWestern cities have NO public transportation, and driving is an absolute necessity. Some of us own businesses that require us to drive pickup trucks. I couldn’t image getting on the train to head to my shop with a complete set of fenders and tanks from a motorcycle. If gas goes up to $8 a gallon, I will be forced to fire 2 employees to make up the cost. Why can’t these people understand that?

My family and I are voluntarily donating 5 of our carbon credit points to Al Gore so that he can keep limousining to whereever he needs to go to warn the world of the perils of global warming.

This is what really annoys me about Al Gore. The guy has millions of dollars. Yet, he doesn’t put solar panels on his house. He doesn’t fly commercial. And he doesn’t use hybrid vehicles on his travel team.

SoulGlo on July 19, 2008 at 2:53 PM

Doesn’t he have a secret service security detail? Those are probably imposed on him… that’s not to say he isn’t mind-bogglingly hypocritical, and it’s certainly good for a laugh, but I doubt he chose these himself–for the reasons you mentioned.

DaveS on July 19, 2008 at 2:56 PM

I’m not much more of a car expert than AllahP, but I’m pretty sure none of those are hybrids. Chevy makes a hybrid Tahoe, which has received surprising accolades from some greenies. The Tahoe is a little smaller than a ‘Burb, but I’ve yet to hear of a hybrid Suburban. Similarly, I haven’t heard of a hybrid full-size Lincoln.

Europe is doing just fine with their high gas prices? Apparently this guy didn’t catch the media coverage of all the French truck drivers who’ve been protesting (some violently) the high cost of gas there.

SoulGlo, I believe it was reported that Al Gore (recently) had some solar panels put on his house. He did this after it was reported that the electic bill for his giant home in Tennessee was running more than $3,000 per month. According to the story I read, the solar panels did little to reduce his massive bill. But I doubt Gore cares, since it was just for show anyway. He has made millions, literally, with his global warming/carbon credit scams and as long as the dupes keep paying him big bucks, he’ll keep living large and laughing at the rest of us, all the way to the bank.

AZCoyote on July 19, 2008 at 3:12 PM

Doesn’t he have a secret service security detail? Those are probably imposed on him …

If Al cared as much about the environment as he claims, he would decline the secret service protection and find an eco-friendly mode of transportation.

But Al is Numero Uno in Al’s book. Screw the trees and the polar bears and crank up the AC. And screw those silly morons who show up for my eco-sermons and buy all the crap I shove down their gullet.

I know Hannity has a hybrid SUV of some kind, but I’m sure the Goracles’ is a regular gas powered and more then likely up-armored for security. If that is the case they’re probably heavier and burn more fuel then normal.

They could be aftermarket retrofitted, but what kind of retrofitting is an acceptable alternative? Hydrogen or electric? If they were I’m sure the chauffeur would have said so. Also, I think the folks who made the vid would recognize if they were electric.

But what of ethanol as an alternative? Is it possible Gore’s vehicles run on 100 percent ethanol? Highly doubtful.

So we are down to some gas/ethanol blend. Ignoring the disastrous effects on the environment from the forced marketization of ethanol, isn’t ethanol is less efficient than gasoline, consuming more oil than it is worth in environmental CO2 savings?

I know when corn based E blended fuels range from 10 to 20% less efficient than regular gasoline in miles per gallon. And that does not count the use of fossil fuels to make the ethanol, which more than make up for whatever piddly little efficiency the E fuel provides.

Dusty on July 19, 2008 at 3:41 PM

As usual on Ham & Cheese last night, Colmes played the “shoot the messenger” card, which doesn’t wash with those of us who are intelligent enough to see thru the hypocracy of Gore.

madmonkphotog on July 19, 2008 at 3:49 PM

Research how much water is consumed to make a single gallon of ethanol. I could care less if Gore drove up in a 100% ethanol vehicle, burning food for fuel when you can’t eat what it is supposed to replace is stupid.

The agent told me that Al Gore is a private citizen. He would have had Secret Service protection for no longer than six months after his time as VP.

Ok, maybe he didn’t exactly ask people if he could float on their credits but really-should he have to? It is after all, for the good of the planet. And don’t we all want to save the planet?

European countries also have an unrivaled public transportation system that allows them to have $8 a gallon gas.

A public transportation system that is in large part funded by the United States Department of Defense. 50 years of not having to pay a dime for your national defense against the Soviets equals lots of scratch to pay for socialist candyland goodies.

Not even a hypocrite of the Goracle’s magnitude would dare roll up to a speech on gas prices and conservation in these hogs.

Was that tongue in cheek? Because from everything I’ve seen Goracle do, I’m quite sure he would indeed.

I don’t know nearly enough about cars to recognize hybrid models on sight, but I have to assume that’s what these are. Not even a hypocrite of the Goracle’s magnitude would dare roll up to a speech on gas prices and conservation in these hogs.

Well, aside from the fact that I can’t believe you’d put anything past this guy, I don’t believe Lincoln makes a Town Car hybrid, nor do I believe Chevy makes a hybrid Suburban. Chevy does have a hybrid Tahoe, but as far as I can tell, they do not make a Suburban hybrid.

Every time we see Gore’s hypocrisy I’m reminded of Coulter’s line (I’ll paraphrase, because I don’t remember it word for word): At least now we know he’s not stupid, he’s just a liar. Because if he really believed in the “emergency” he’s always screaming about, he wouldn’t take private jets, gas guzzlers, etc.

I always take it a step further. In his position of supposed authority, he should never travel unless absolutely necessary. His people always say he has to travel around the world for awareness, etc. But that’s a lie. Why not appear via satellite or web cam? We all see reporters on TV via satellite every day… certainly this isn’t secret technology, hidden from the former VP. We also have tweens using video chat on their instant messengers. Surely the inventor of the internet is aware of this capability.

That all came to me one day as I saw him going back and forth between the east and west coast to promote his movie on all the morning and late night shows. I couldn’t help but wonder why he took planes so much, when he could have appeared via satellite or internet. In fact, making that stance, and just setting a TV or computer monitor on the guest chair at these shows could have been a big publicity stunt that would have gotten his crockumentary even more attention.

Bottom line – Gore is a tremendous POS.

There are no Suburban hybrids at this time. There are Chevy Tahoes, and Cadillac Escalades, that are hybrids now or coming soon (I’m sure the Goracle could get one before mere mortals.)

Of course he’s a hypocrite. You don’t see Bush’s efficient home in Texas on the cover of Time, do ya?

I just love the “roll up the window” moment. I hope millions see this on YouTube.

Next Gore-driven scam: Windmills!!!

No commercial power-generating windmills would ever be built except for the unreasonably high PTC Tax Credits ($21/MWH in 2008) and foolish state mandates. The costs of both of these come out of YOUR pocket…and are thus a TAX on you to pay for an unreliable energy source which you probably cannot use and which makes no economic sense!!!

The costs of building, maintaining, and using wind have been vastly understated and buried by the developers and leftist advocates for these things. In addition, major costs like power lines, power conditioning and regulating, and coordination of putting the sources on line and taking them off line (so the power lines don’t pop and so all of your appliances don’t blow out) have been pawned off on existing utilities and forced into consumer power rates: another TAX!!

The fact is that wind technology never pays: it is hugely expensive. When capital, installation, operation, and maintenance costs are honestly figured in the same manner as you would for coal, oil, gas, or nuclear, you will find that wind is vastly more expensive and than any of the alternatives. I would also argue that wind is also more environmentally intrusive due to the huge amount of land it requires, as well as a vast new network of power lines and associated infrastructure strewn all over the country.

So when you hear T. Boone (“Pocket”) Pickins and his bright ideas on wind, remember that the money he wants to “invest” (Liberalese for “pour down a rat hole”) is YOURS!!!

landlines on July 21, 2008 at 12:28 PM

Correction: SOLAR is the absolute worst ($30,000 cost to generate not-quite-enough energy to power a toaster when the sun is shining), with wind a distant second-worst.

T. Boone is just another opportunist, look where his money is; a big wind farm in west Texas, and gas wells. Not to mention the Federal subsidies he get for each kilowatt generated from the wind farm.

You’ve got to admit, Gore is getting a little smarter–giving this speech in the summer. At one outdoor speech Gore gave in New York in January, it was only 12 degrees, and a little warming would have been welcomed, not feared!

As for how well Europe is doing–France gets 80% of its electricity from nuclear power plants, without CO2 emissions. Now, which candidate was mentioning building them here? Sorry, can’t mention that–there’s no money in it for Big Al!
