I have a sister-in-law, two nephews and a niece who would take living exception to that remark.

My anger at you was that you seem to be dispairing the young people in the Military.{ my perception, maybe wrong.}

I wasn't doing anything of the kind. Not to say that I think that they all "walk on water" though either. I never did. I saw the full gamut, from "Saint to Sinner", when I was in the Army, just as I saw elsewhere before and have seen elsewhere after.

I wore the uniform with PRIDE, yet when I see the young men and women serving today, I feel humbled.

A reminder to y'all--ANYONE who served or serves honorably in ANY capacity deserves to be honored for their service.

Iraq did not attack us. Al Q attracted us. Most of the terrorist murderers were from Saudi Arabia, as is their ring leader. None were from Iraq and even if they were, which they weren’t, that would not justify Islamic (ROP) nation building and Koran kissing.

. If I were fifty years younger I would re-enlist.

With a temper like yours, they might well not even take you and if they did you probably would be discharged before long.

MB4 on July 19, 2008 at 1:32 AM

I served my time with an Honorable discharge. Do you remember Salman Pak ? When a nation allow our enemies to train for terrorist attacks { aka Pakistan } they are our enemy. This is a world war. This is nothing new with the muslims, they have been at war with the west for years. As far as nation building and koran kissing I am with you. My anger at you was that you seem to be dispairing the young people in the Military.{ my perception, maybe wrong.}

MB4 shows an almost Obama-like lack of historical perspective. (perhaps "hysterical" would be more appropriate for many of our far a port friends.)

In January of 1946, Life Magazine - the royalty of periodicals - declared that the US was "losing the victory".

The NY Times (I am sure everyone will be shocked) ran a full series of articles declaring that the Americans had flubbed the peace.

The Germans would not, we were told, participate in rushed elections, conflicts with former German soldiers and occupying troops were escalating, the enemy had a place in the new government, and... well - no need to continue, you just read it yesterday and for months.

Just take what you read and in many cases substitute "Germany" for "Iraq" and you will get the idea of how the elite MSM felt in 1946.

By the way, it was only in 1950 - five plus long years after the war officially ended - that the German government actual gained its legs and the Americans abdicated their role.

And all American troops came home. Oops. Guess not.

Another aside. The NY Times, the same organization that received a Pulitzer for the lies of its reporter Walter Duranty on his glorification of the Soviet Union (that they refuse to return to this day) - gave hefty praise to how efficient and progressive the Soviets were in Eastern Germany - way ahead of the Western zones.

MB4 would have felt right at home.

Germans hated them and they should leave.

It's mau-mau. But curiously, the Miami Herald apparently doesn't think smearing is always a bad thing. It's okay for them to do so, but they don't think it's right when people the Herald disagrees with do it.

Day, who lives in Pensacola, was part of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth that smeared former Democratic nominee John Kerry's war record in 2004.

Wha...? I'm pretty sure they simply pointed out what he did in front of the entire nation 30 years ago.

For those of you that think that not all muslims agree with the bad muslims. Where are the good muslims in denouncing the bad ones? I don't hear much from the community regarding suicide bombings or sending children to their death? There seems to be a deafening silence from this group!

I respect Bud, but I don’t agree with him.

Obviously I do basically agree with him.

All Muslims don’t want us to bow down or get killed.

No one every said all.

We’re not rebuilding for the people who hate us. We’re rebuilding for the people who want to go back to their everyday lives.

amerpundit on July 18, 2008 at 10:47 PM

No moderate can legitimately tell another Muslim to stop doing the extremist things Mohammad himself did. Also, the Qur’an condones violence and coercion to further the Islamic agenda. People whom we call moderates are labeled hypocrites by Allah Himself in the Qur’an. Moderates will always lose the argument because, as ex-Muslim author Ibn Warraq says, “There may be moderates in Islam but Islam itself is not moderate.”

Islamic expert Daniel Pipes and others estimate ten percent of the Islamic world to be militant. In 1933 when the Nazi party took control of Germany it had 2 million members, comprising only three percent of Germany’s sixty-six million citizens. A tiny minority of extremists can control a vast number of moderates, making them irrelevant.

If you don't want to be "initiated" then don't lecture someone for doing what they did not even do.

As do you it seems, as well as a course in basic manners; what compels you to attack me personally?

Bishop on July 19, 2008 at 1:36 AM

Attack you personally? By questioning your reading comprehension after you said that I did what I did not do?

I said a very mild non confrontational, which should not have upset any normal person -

He is using the word “gooks” differently from what most American troops in South Vietnam did.

There “Gooks” was a lot like “Nazis”, usually used to refer to VC or NVA.

“Dinks” was the one that was much more like the “N word” and was the racist one as it was used for Vietnamese in general.

and then you go off with a very lecturing -

Don’t presume to speak for Bud Day

don’t for a second believe that you know what he means about anything having to do with the Vietnam War.

when I was not doing anything like that. Good Lord can't you even read for comprehension the second time around? You are the one in need of a course in basic manners, in addition to a basic course in reading comprehension. Maybe you can get a discount if you buy both. I'm looking out for you.

In short, you don’t know a damn thing about what Colonel Bud Day, my Green Beret uncles, John McCain, Norman Schwarzkopf or any other NamVet thought about ANY of this terminology. Speak for yourself.

There you go again.
- Ronald Reagan

I was there, in South Vietnam as I said, not in North Vietnam like Day, and the way I stated it was the way those terms were used by everyone I ever came across when I was there in South Vietnam (RVN). If everyone there talked a different language nobody would have even been able to communicate with each other.

With a temper like yours, they might well not even take you and if they did you probably would be discharged before long.

Welcome to the club, Johan, I was just initiated into it myself a few posts back, not that I volunteered.

Where in that did I presume anything? Answer - nowhere, and very clearly so. I said that he was using it differently than we did in South Vietnam.
DIFFERENTLY!!!
You need to take a reading comprehension course.

As do you it seems, as well as a course in basic manners; what compels you to attack me personally?

I'll try again, how do you know what Bud Day thinks about anything? How do you know he uses that term "differently" than anyone else who served in Vietnam? His experience over there isn't composed entirely of his time as a POW, and for all you know he also used the word "dink" or any other term you care to name on a regular basis.

In fact, he may have settled on the word "gook" simply as a catch-all for EVERY slang term that soldiers like him frequently uttered. For all you know he used the word "gook" from the moment he stepped off the plane in South Vietnam.

In short, you don't know a damn thing about what Colonel Bud Day, my Green Beret uncles, John McCain, Norman Schwarzkopf or any other NamVet thought about ANY of this terminology. Speak for yourself.

Well suck it up and get over it.

Preventive war was an invention of Hitler. Frankly, I would not even listen to anyone seriously that came and talked about such a thing.
- Dwight D. Eisenhower, 5 star General and 34th President of the United States of America.

May we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.

We were attacked.

Iraq did not attack us. Al Q attracted us. Most of the terrorist murderers were from Saudi Arabia, as is their ring leader. None were from Iraq and even if they were, which they weren't, that would not justify Islamic (ROP) nation building and Koran kissing.

. If I were fifty years younger I would re-enlist.

Make up your own mind as you see fit, but don’t for a second believe that you know what he means about anything having to do with the Vietnam War.

Did you not read what I said for comprehension? Apparently not.

I said "He is using the word “gooks” differently from what most American troops in South Vietnam did."

Where in that did I presume anything? Answer - nowhere, and very clearly so. I said that he was using it differently than we did in South Vietnam.

DIFFERENTLY!!!

You need to take a reading comprehension course.

it seems you take great pains to make an argument over everything.

But my being in RVN did nothing to protect you and I don’t think that on balance anyway, if I was a generation younger, and this was a generation from now, and I had been in Iraq, I would be of any different opinion.

You make me angry. We were attacked. We are fighting a war, like it or not. My nineteen year old grandson understood this and joined the battle, along with my son and they are taking the fight to the enemy. Agree or not, but this enemy will kill you without any regret. If I were fifty years younger I would re-enlist. I will not yeild. Come and take it.

Look at this they can't make fun of Obama(because he's black)

and Obama himself said, "We know what kind of campaign they're going to run. They're going to try to make you afraid. They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did i mention he's black"
--------------

Now look at this on Conan O'Brien..

http://thepage.time.com/release-on-mccains-appearance-on-late-night-with-conan-obrien/

O’Brien then showed McCain the casting underway for a “made-for-TV-movie” about his search for a running mate, with side-by-side photos of the following:

“Sen. John McCain will be played by Tim Conway.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will be played by Bob Barker.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will be played by “Kumar” from the “Harold & Kumar” movies.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will be played by “Gomer Pyle.”

Former Head of EBay and National Co-Chair of your campaign Meg Whitman will be played by Tom Petty.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be played by any local weatherman.

Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman will be played by a basset hound.(Now is this a dig at Jews? not sure.. )

Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice will be played by Snoop Dogg.”(Snoop Dogg? Well... who is trying to ghettofy someone here? i guess we can now start Photoshopping Obama as a Gangsta Rapper with goldteeth.. and a 9mm, slappin' a ho... fair game?)

Don't presume to speak for Bud Day, I will leave it up to him to explain what he means by the word "gook", since I would believe that every man over there had their own definition. He says he doesn't ever describe any Vietnamese as North Vietnamese or even now as Vietnamese, only as "gooks". Make up your own mind as you see fit, but don't for a second believe that you know what he means about anything having to do with the Vietnam War.

My NamVet uncles referred to their enemy as all sorts of things, they too can explain the nuance they felt about each individual term whether it be "gook", "dink" or various others I have heard them use. Anecdotal I know, but it seems you take great pains to make an argument over everything.
