My anger at you was that you seem to be dispairing the young people in the Military.{ my perception, maybe wrong.}

I wasn’t doing anything of the kind. Not to say that I think that they all “walk on water” though either. I never did. I saw the full gamut, from “Saint to Sinner”, when I was in the Army, just as I saw elsewhere before and have seen elsewhere after.

A reminder to y’all–ANYONE who served or serves honorably in ANY capacity deserves to be honored for their service.

I served my time with an Honorable discharge. Do you remember Salman Pak ? When a nation allow our enemies to train for terrorist attacks { aka Pakistan } they are our enemy. This is a world war. This is nothing new with the muslims, they have been at war with the west for years. As far as nation building and koran kissing I am with you. In January of 1946, Life Magazine – the royalty of periodicals – declared that the US was “losing the victory”.

The NY Times (I am sure everyone will be shocked) ran a full series of articles declaring that the Americans had flubbed the peace.

The Germans would not, we were told, participate in rushed elections, conflicts with former German soldiers and occupying troops were escalating, the enemy had a place in the new government, and… well – no need to continue, you just read it yesterday and for months.

Just take what you read and in many cases substitute “Germany” for “Iraq” and you will get the idea of how the elite MSM felt in 1946.

By the way, it was only in 1950 – five plus long years after the war officially ended – that the German government actual gained its legs and the Americans abdicated their role.

And all American troops came home. Oops. Guess not.

Another aside. The NY Times, the same organization that received a Pulitzer for the lies of its reporter Walter Duranty on his glorification of the Soviet Union (that they refuse to return to this day) – gave hefty praise to how efficient and progressive the Soviets were in Eastern Germany – way ahead of the Western zones.

No moderate can legitimately tell another Muslim to stop doing the extremist things Mohammad himself did. Also, the Qur’an condones violence and coercion to further the Islamic agenda. People whom we call moderates are labeled hypocrites by Allah Himself in the Qur’an. Moderates will always lose the argument because, as ex-Muslim author Ibn Warraq says, “There may be moderates in Islam but Islam itself is not moderate.”

He is using the word “gooks” differently from what most American troops in South Vietnam did.

There “Gooks” was a lot like “Nazis”, usually used to refer to VC or NVA.

“Dinks” was the one that was much more like the “N word” and was the racist one as it was used for Vietnamese in general.

I was there, in South Vietnam as I said, not in North Vietnam like Day, and the way I stated it was the way those terms were used by everyone I ever came across when I was there in South Vietnam (RVN). If everyone there talked a different language nobody would have even been able to communicate with each other.

I’ll try again, how do you know what Bud Day thinks about anything? How do you know he uses that term “differently” than anyone else who served in Vietnam? His experience over there isn’t composed entirely of his time as a POW, and for all you know he also used the word “dink” or any other term you care to name on a regular basis.

In fact, he may have settled on the word “gook” simply as a catch-all for EVERY slang term that soldiers like him frequently uttered. For all you know he used the word “gook” from the moment he stepped off the plane in South Vietnam.

In short, you don’t know a damn thing about what Colonel Bud Day, my Green Beret uncles, John McCain, Norman Schwarzkopf or any other NamVet thought about ANY of this terminology. Speak for yourself.

But my being in RVN did nothing to protect you and I don’t think that on balance anyway, if I was a generation younger, and this was a generation from now, and I had been in Iraq, I would be of any different opinion.

My nineteen year old grandson understood this and joined the battle, along with my son and they are taking the fight to the enemy. Agree or not, but this enemy will kill you without any regret. He says he doesn’t ever describe any Vietnamese as North Vietnamese or even now as Vietnamese, only as “gooks”. Make up your own mind as you see fit, but don’t for a second believe that you know what he means about anything having to do with the Vietnam War.

My NamVet uncles referred to their enemy as all sorts of things, they too can explain the nuance they felt about each individual term whether it be “gook”, “dink” or various others I have heard them use. Anecdotal I know, but it seems you take great pains to make an argument over everything.
