A scene from the recent Colorado senate debate. The man reading from the resolution is Republican Bob Schaffer, the man standing to his left and looking uncomfortable is Democrat Mark Udall. Given the state of public opinion, I’m not sure how smart it is to remind voters that your opponent eventually came around to seeing the war as a mistake while you never did, but as a bit of political theater, I dig it. A lot.
Probably won’t do much good, though.

Why can’t the communications people at the White House be this good?

Awesome.

They’re both white so the Republican can’t be threatened with accusations of racism. Or, maybe, the Democrat could get Obama to say, “You can’t talk like that.”

Awesome.

That’s how you lay into your opponent. GOP members, take note.
amerpundit on July 17, 2008 at 8:57 PM
Perfect…hope he pulls that out somehow. We need that in the Senate.

Bush had a lot of help getting into Iraq, although staying was his choice.
“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation … And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real…”
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003 | Source
“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002 | Source
“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
- President Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998 | Source
“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
- President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998 | Source
“We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction.”
- Madeline Albright, Feb 1, 1998 | Source
“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998 | Source
“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.”
Letter to President Clinton.
- (D) Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, others, Oct. 9, 1998 | Source
“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998 | Source
“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”
- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999 | Source
“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them.”
- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002 | Source
“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 | Source
“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002 | Source
“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002 | Source
“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…”
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002 | Source
“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years … We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002 | Source
“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002 | Source
“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.”
- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002 | Source

Why was Ross from “Friends” asking the question?
MamaAJ on July 17, 2008 at 9:02 PM
Don’t forget Al Gore in 1992, criticizing the First Bush for not taking out Saddam because of all his Terrorist ties.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9JE48XHKG64
had Bush capitulated to Saddam, at a minimum the Dems would’ve remained hawks and accussed Bush of being derelict in Duty for it and the media would’ve spent the last 5 years talking up all of Saddams terror ties instead of dismissing them and covering up like they have instead

If McCain could take it to Osama Obama that way, we might yet be saved from years of defeat and disaster.
Oh, wait. Obama has no paper trail.

I have to say PWNED!!!
I think I may have to use your quotes there and post their latest quotes and send out a mass email. :)
I hope it reaches some ppl and change their heart about these darn politicians. Everyone is saying that we will loose the congress, but if we show them for what they are (government hacks who don’t give a s**t bout the American ppl and are political expedience experts) we might be able to change Joe Smith’s mind.
lsutiger on July 17, 2008 at 9:57 PM
With all due respect, what do you mean by “we”? The Republicans are no better than the Donks. “We” lose either way. We only win by booting them all out.

There’s just one word for that: pwnd

It should be required viewing immediately on CNN and MSNBC.
Let’s get the truth out there — especially our younger and first time voters who aren’t too well informed in history.

Believe me, I am all about term limits and I have promoted goooh.com. But I would rather see true conservatives having power with a mix of left leaning (right of center) republicans than have the pinko-commies running the show.
lsutiger on July 17, 2008 at 10:28 PM
I’m actually sitting here with my mail-in primary ballot. I’ve just “blackened the oval” for Schaffer.
I know, I know. He’s running unopposed but after that debate response, I’m now an enthusiastic supporter.

Being against the war after being for it just got a little bit more difficult.
Bigfoot on July 17, 2008 at 11:38 PM
ANd have no Congress or sweep everyone out that currently holds office? I love these sweeping generalizations. You DO realise that Senators serve 6 years and their time in office is staggered with their junior or senior collegue right? The House is every 2 years and a no brainer. But if you want to sweep all congress critters out at one time, you’re cutting some Senator’s tim in office short by 2 or 4 years and that’s not constitutional.
SO, I understand your angst and pretty much agree that we should have virtual wholesale changeout in Congress, but really now, who do you think would replace them? D’s and R’s, that’s who. Or are you operating under some imaginary cloud of logic that says Indy’s would prevail?
That would be wishfull thinking of a naieve mind.

My grandmother got work with Bob back in the day when he and Marilyn Musgrave were in the state legisature. I had the priviledge of visiting with him on more than one occasion. He is a brilliant man and I look forward to voting for him in November. I certainly hope that he and Marilyn can do some good in congress. I also hope he doesn’t loose that spunk.

I just sent my ballot in yesterday. Since all Republicans were unnopposed, dontchathink we could have saved money and skipped the primary. We could use some more TV ads with this video in it…

Love this, Bob Schaffer looks like a keeper….Udall looks like another metrosexual Lib whiner. Remember that real leadership is lacking in Congress, that includes 100% of the Dims and 30%-50% of the R’s….so no they are not the same. DUMP THE DIMS in 08!
