New York governor: If Obama loses, it’ll be because of racism

posted at 9:51 pm on July 17, 2008 by Allahpundit

I’m paraphrasing, but only a little. Like I said last month, the closer we get to Election Day the more it’ll be suggested that to even contest this election is to evince racism.

Governor Paterson, delivering a speech today at the NAACP’s 99th annual convention at Cincinnati, suggested that the defeat of Senator Obama in the presidential election would be a victory for racism in America…

“Can America reject the crucible of race that has dictated and pervaded all of our history to embrace an African American man who has the right polices for the next decade in this country? Can America overlook its past practices that were so grave that in 1820 the great Scottish Whig, Sydney Smith, writing in the Edinburgh Review, said of America: ‘How can they protest the tyrannies of Europe when they torture and brutalize one-sixth of its population?’ How can America get past this and elect an African-American president of the United States?” Mr. Paterson said.

He continued: “Can America go past the crippling way that we’ve shot ourselves in the foot over and over, denying opportunity to people who are bright, to people who are qualified, to people who are able because they didn’t look like us, or they didn’t come from where we came from, or they are from a different gender, or they are from the African continent? Can America push that away and find new leadership? We’ll find out in the next few months what America can do.”

If McCain really respected black people, he’d drop out. Link via Gateway Pundit, who notes the flip side of Paterson claiming that an Obama loss proves racism — namely, NAACP President Julian Bond recently reminding America that an Obama win doesn’t disprove racism. I.e. no matter how much better things get, they’re still awfully bad, which is why well-intended cartoons circa 2008 can still be semi-seriously compared to racial terrorism of the 1920s. Even by a woman whose own husband was a victim of racial terrorism himself.

Sure, it’s a sleazy lie..but it will work…who right now in the US can tolerate being called a ‘racist’ by anybody? Hell, I expect McCain to make a speach soon, to address this…by basically saying it’s the truth. Britain, here we come!

AUINSC on July 17, 2008 at 9:58 PM

Was Paterson for racism before he was against it?

What did he know and when did he know it?

Et tu Brute on July 17, 2008 at 9:58 PM

Just keep saying things like this loud and clear. Only it would be nicer after the convention. Like Howard Dean, I’m afraid of him fizzling out and polls dipping south before the nomination, let alone the election.

Anyone who has rejected identity politics knows this. The left will not come to terms with nominating another loser if McCain wins and excuse the loss as racism, period. I don’t care. Let the loons wallow in their own self pity and stupidity.

Out of step with America, nothing to do with race.

I wish someone would do a commercial that goes along the lines of…
White Female: “I am a racist”
Black Male: “I am a racist”
Asian Male: “I am a racist”
White Female: “I am a racist”

You get the idea.

Maybe two types of endings.

One would say that even if you believe in Barack, please join us and show those who want to intimidate you to vote skin color by saying if you dont agree with a person, you must be a racist.

Another video would point out that if disagreeing with ones policy makes you a racist, then call me a racist. People will get the idea.

WoosterOh on July 17, 2008 at 10:13 PM

Obama’s nomination is setting race relations back 40 years. I had a Veteran of the VN war in my office last week. He saw my Bush / Cheney 04 placard sitting way up high on top a bookshelf. He immediately dropped an N=bomb and asked me what I thought about Obama. I was horrified and explained that I’d vote for a black guy, just not this black guy. It’s going to get ugly this Fall. Much uglier than anyone is predicting.

DrW on July 17, 2008 at 10:13 PM

And what if McCain should choose Michael Steele as his running mate? What would that say about American racism?

Maybe nothing, or that Reps can play the game as well. Why don’t you tell us? Somehow the media will apply a double standard and make his nomination out to be some kind of racism though. That’s the only thing I’m sure of. What’s good for the braying asses isn’t so great for the elephants — “the party of Lincoln.”

Michael Steele called himself a Lincoln Republican on election night and CNN’s Anderson Cooper was so pissed at the great answer he changed it to “Republican Republican.” Or Anderson Cooper doesn’t know Lincoln was the first Republican president.

Beagle on July 17, 2008 at 10:16 PM

Obama spent 20 years in a black seperatist church that was extermely racist and marxist as well. He basicly has an empty resume, benefitted life long from affirmative action, as did his America hating spouse.

His initial supporters were terrorists and criminals. Chicago politics is his mindset. Throwing a lot of other peoples money around for programs that yielded a high crime rate in the neighborhoods that he organized, vote for tax increases and support worthless tax payer funded experiments just about sums up his achievements.

If he loses it will be because of his words and actions period. If he is elected it will be a self inflicted wound on the part of American Voters and a National Disaster.

Four years of Obama will take America twenty years to repair.

old trooper on July 18, 2008 at 2:35 AM

I will say it again- the worst enemies of black americans are black americans.

I have a feeling most people are like me- they’re fed up with the constant, neverending, belly aching from a group of people that are special in they’re the only citizens that currently benefit from instutitionalized racism in the form of affirmative action.

I’m nearly at the point where I say- you lump yourself into this mindset, we toss you under the bus. Take the chip off your shoulder and join the rest of us in the real world where imaginary racists aren’t hiding around every corner. If you want to, as a black american, disown this nonsense and take a stand against this group thing, be my guest and I will be the first to praise you for it.

The face of black America in the eyes of way too many people, unfortunately, is this sort of craziness. That needs to change and it needs to change fast, because it only hurts their brand.

Being marginalized and not pandered to by the democrats, left by the wayside, may finally bring their focus onto themselves, start following real leaders instead of the con artists and gangsters that have put them at the edge for the last 30 years. The black community has devolved socially in that time due to the message foisted on them by the democrat party and their egocentric leaders.

Isnt it racist to vote for someone BECAUSE of their race?? Give me a break!

becki51758 on July 18, 2008 at 6:53 AM

Whatever it takes. Calling me racist is just more incentive for me not to vote for Obama. The liberals, and especially blacks, don’t understand that about whites probably because they’re too busy whining about something that happended 100 years ago. There aren’t enough white racists in the country to keep Obama out of office, but there are more than enough white people who are sick of the “black victim” thing to vote against him.

So, some advice for the governor from this white guy…

Get over it…get over yourselves…pay more attention to Bill Cosby and less to Jessie Jackson…You’re victims only to yourself…If you want to use the “N” word, I’ll use it too…you’re only entitled to what you earn…a white guy has lost every presidential election since 1776 – if Obama loses, it’s because he’s a socialist/marxist and most white people don’t want a president with that ideology…and finally, every time a black opens his/her mouth and shouts racism, you perpetuate the stereotype for another year so just shut up.
