John McCain presents: “The Obama Iraq documentary”

Why attack your opponent on an issue in which ~60% of the public has come around to the position he held six years ago? Answer: They’re not. This isn’t really a video about Iraq. It’s a video about transforming Barack Obama, farsighted foreign policy sage and avatar of post-partisan principle, into Barack Obama, leftist defeatist and political opportunist, in the public mind. Re-read Byron York’s interview with an unnamed Democratic analyst from a few days ago: “If McCain can turn him into a politician, Obama has lost his advantage.” The data doesn’t lie.
Expect a McCain Iraq documentary, chock full of hawkish, optimistic quotes circa 2002, from the Obama camp forthwith. Exit question: As effective as this is, given the length and the lopsided lefty advantage in online readership, who’s going to sit through it?
Update: Actually, this might make a more effective topic for a rebuttal documentary.

If McCain keeps needling Barack Justanotherlyingpolitician Obama, so that Obama’s every non-scripted public statement is outrage, reaction, denial, countercharge, and all other manner of defensiveness, then does it matter than anyone other than Obama himself watches it?
Keep him off-balance and angry, and he’ll undercut his own image as the Messiah.
NeighborhoodCatLady on July 17, 2008 at 4:41 PM
Not me. I got 1:22 in and was too bored to continue. McCain is preaching to the choir with most of us (the online right), and I don’t see the nutroots sitting through it. It looks good, I just don’t know who the target audience is.
aero on July 17, 2008 at 4:41 PM
Too darn long. Anyway, everyone knows he is a flipper.
eh..eh..eh..eh..eh..eh

For the Press. Same thing with that 3 minute or so long video about Dems flip flopping a few years back.
Vizzini on July 17, 2008 at 4:43 PM
The way this man lies and flops to gain power makes him even scarier in my mind.
This guy is the ultimate Manchurian Candidate. Who is pulling the strings?
EJDolbow on July 17, 2008 at 4:43 PM
0:00 to 2:05 is enough to nail him.
Limerick on July 17, 2008 at 4:43 PM
Could be the “read it in a book this thick” tactic: The length of the video is part of the message.
CK MacLeod on July 17, 2008 at 4:44 PM
BO is the most disingenuous person I have ever heard. How is it that he has been able to rally people around his message of Hopeandchange, when the only thing we have to do is point out the obvious fact that he has been wrong about EVERYTHING? It doesn’t make me feel very good about 50% of our electorate if they can’t see through this charade.
pullingmyhairout on July 17, 2008 at 4:44 PM
Maybe they can come up with a condensed version of the video. Still, some of Obama’s bites need to run in order to get the true context. Good video, great idea. McCain must be listening to Dick Morris!
Ordinary1 on July 17, 2008 at 4:45 PM
Agreed. And they need to run the ads non-stop on all the major networks.
pullingmyhairout on July 17, 2008 at 4:48 PM
the one where he says that George bush actually “doubled down”, with MORE troops.. is the best.. :}
Chakra Hammer on July 17, 2008 at 4:51 PM
George Bush Master poker player. :}
Obama you gotta know when to hold ‘um, know when to fold ‘um, know when to walk away and know when to run!
All the Democrats want to do is FOLD, walk away and run and lose!
Chakra Hammer on July 17, 2008 at 4:52 PM
When the Obamassiah coined “Hope” and “Change” in his campaign, I think he was secretly saying he Hoped his pandering convictions wouldn’t have to Change because he would be proved wrong.
Barack Hussein Obama’s new campaign slogan:
Whichever Way The Wind Blows
…by the way, the music in that video sounds like the Church of Scientology L. Ron Hubbard commercials. It’s so annoying I couldn’t finish watching video.
SilverStar830 on July 17, 2008 at 4:54 PM
He said we could “salvage it”.. as if.. this guy is such a pessimist and not worthy of being commander-in-chief
Chakra Hammer on July 17, 2008 at 4:56 PM
He really is a sophomoric bumbler without the teleprompter.
fogw on July 17, 2008 at 4:56 PM
Good video, although a bit lengthy. The man has no principles on which he stands. If he did, he would remember his past statements because they came from his heart, not from which political wind is blowing at the time.

Oh good gawd that’s a scary story in that link.

too long and preaching to the choir
billypaintbrush on July 17, 2008 at 5:00 PM
That was pretty good. Will not change the mind of many Obama voters, sadly. Good for a GOP pep rally though.

Obama has been clear on his position on Iraq all along.

Again I wonder what the democrats are going to do with this guy when he loses the election.
elduende on July 17, 2008 at 5:04 PM
what a joke they are, out of context of course which is what they do best.
jp on July 17, 2008 at 5:07 PM
Way too long.
That said, I do hope “No, no, no, that’s not what I said” becomes the epitaph for Osama Obama’s campaign.
I would hate to think we’ll hear him saying that from the White House while Americans die in new terrorist attacks.
MrScribbler on July 17, 2008 at 5:10 PM
Too long and slow. Needs tightening and perhaps superimposing the written statements with the contradictory audio/visual statements. The tag line: Obama has been wrong all along on EVERY issue.
jerseyman on July 17, 2008 at 5:11 PM
I watched it all the way through.
Great video.
WoosterOh on July 17, 2008 at 5:12 PM
George W. Bush should invite Sen. John McCain to go to Iraq the exact same time frame that Obama is there. That would upset a few liberal orgasms.
Travis1 on July 17, 2008 at 5:12 PM
Wow, string em together and it’s amazing. This way, that way, back to this way….
I saw the timer and thought it would be too long but it goes by faster than a “Girls Gone Wild” comercial.
Not that I actually timed them….:P

Man, he’s better than Slick Willy. His constant use of hedge words “my perception”, “as I see it”, “it appears” gives him so much wiggle room it’s disgusting.

i made it to 3:27…

I watched the whole thing because it amused the hell out of me.
I would like to see a text version - the quotes side by side - but then I’m kind of a text-friendly person.

Got bored and started to read my Email. Do it in one 60 second ad and one 30 second ad. Include opposing text bullets like samnoncazr suggests. End with one white on black text: “Liar”
Rod on July 17, 2008 at 5:54 PM
After watching the complete video, it’s the swing voters that should see this time and again. It’s amazing that Obama can even remember which side of the bed to get out of each day. Forgetting the “hope”, the man’s got “change” down to an art form.
Rovin on July 17, 2008 at 6:03 PM
Unfortunately, most of the voting public has about a 30-second attention span. McCain’s people need to make these a lot shorter and tighter.
Slightly OT, I saw a CNN report today talking about Obama’s upcoming European/Iraq trip, and the network plans to cover it (fawn over it) so extensively. CNN mentioned that Obama has been getting two to three times the amount of coverage from the MSM that McCain has been getting. No analysis of how biased in Obama’s favor the lopsided coverage has been; no analysis of how so much lopsided and biased coverage in Obama’s favor by every MSM outlet is likely to influence the electorate; just “Republicans are concerned” about it, but hey Obama’s new and fresh and “historic” (i.e. black) — so what do you expect?
At the rate things are going, by the time fall gets here, most voters won’t even be aware that there’s anybody but Obama in the race.
AZCoyote on July 17, 2008 at 6:04 PM
Our pal Ellis was on FNC earlier explaining how the lopsided coverage is OK because Obama is fresh and new and interesting and McCain is a boring old man that no one cares about, and besides, some of the coverage has been negative - like the recent cartoon controversy. Heather Nauert did manage to call him on that one, but he just pretended that he didn’t hear. Typical.
salmonczar on July 17, 2008 at 6:15 PM
About as exiting as a John McCain speech! Shorten it up and get it out there!
sabbott on July 17, 2008 at 6:17 PM
If this video was 30 seconds long, then it would matter. The type of people we need to persuade are not the type trolling McCain’s website for videos. We need it 30 seconds long so we can run it as a commercial on “According to Jim”

I just had an odd thought. If bho looses to McCain, will hillary be able to run against him in 2012? Maybe we should be working to see that she sabotages his iran/iraq positions.
