Biden defends Obama on Afghanistan after goofing on him last year

posted at 3:59 pm on July 17, 2008 by Allahpundit

Delightful, as are so many of Greasy Joe’s public pronouncements. The peg for this is Biden rushing to Obama’s defense after Jim DeMint wondered why he hadn’t yet gotten around to holding a meeting on Afghanistan despite having chaired a senate subcommittee that covers NATO for the past year and a half. Biden’s answer today? Afghanistan’s being dealt with at the full committee level, hence there was no need. Biden’s answer in August 2007?

Biden’s letter brought attention to the fact that Obama did not attend two of those three [full committee] hearings — and for the third, on March 8, 2007, Obama only asked one question, one unrelated to Afghanistan.

How do I know the latter fact? From an August 2007 press release from Biden himself, when he was running for president.

“BIDEN CAMPAIGN CONGRATULATES SEN. OBAMA FOR JOHNNY-COME-LATELY POSITION,” it read. Noting that at the March 2007 hearing, “Sen. Obama asked one question that was unrelated to Taliban or Afghanistan.”

And that ain’t all. NBC asked Biden’s spokesman for further comment at the time. Quote:

“We find it a little disingenuous that Sen. Obama is hailing this as a new bold initiative when he has neglected to join his colleagues in the Senate when the opportunities have been there to redirect our forces into Afghanistan” Biden campaign manager Luis Navarro said at the time. “It’s good to see Sen. Obama has finally arrived at the right position, but this can hardly be considered bold leadership.” Ouch.

The RNC fact sheet on this has cites aplenty, including the comforting detail tucked away at the end that the man who’s itching to fight the “real war” has never so much as visited Afghanistan, let alone called a hearing on it. Exit question: Who’s the most prominent Democrat to have laid into Obama for his dereliction of duty on this issue? No, it’s not Biden. No, it’s not Joe Wilson either, but that’s a good guess. Anyone remember this ad? The substance of it got overlooked in the nutroots’ rush to focus on the Real Issues in the campaign by doing elaborate skin-tone color comparisons, but it’s worth revisiting now. Anybody trashing Delawarenians electing this baffoon should consider their own senate representatives.

Are we, Delaware residents, any more idiotic than, say, MA or IL?

What a loser.

There isn’t much else to say about people like him. Or Clark. Or Murtha. Or Reid. Or any one of these people who are mind-bogglingly running our nation.

I am expressly forbidden to reply. I live in CA.

As for Biden’s completely expectable cave-in: Chalk up another miracle from The Messiah!

MrScribbler on July 17, 2008 at 4:10 PM

LOL.

Wow he looks more feckless as the campaign drags on. America will never elect a weak commander in chief. Obama can best McCain on every other issue in the polls, the position of Commander in chief is most important. A person America cannot trust with the resposibility will never win the Presidency. The issue hurt Kerry, it will knee cap Obama among a significant number of voters.

Well, we all know Smilin’ Joe Biden likes Obama.

“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy…”

Man, he just looks like he’s trying to sell you a 1994 Buick Skylark.

The only idiots are the ones that vote for this unctuous retard. Just be happy that Mike Berg isn’t our congressman. At least we’re not that braindead.

Akzed on July 17, 2008 at 4:16 PM

Getting himself elected to positions he isn’t really qualified for seems to be Obama’s only real talent — and the only thing he’s ever expended any effort on.

What do you expect from Joe “Isuzu” Biden? He’s the guy who hijacked the life story of Brit Labour politician Neil Kinnock and presented it as his own.

Way to go, son of a coal miner Joe!

Anyway, now that I got it off my chest.

Senator,
What a tool.

SilverStar830 on July 17, 2008 at 4:28 PM

LMAO. He takes a chairmanship at the beginning of 2007 when his campaign started so he was too busy with the campaign to hold any hearings. So, has he have any done anything wrt to the committee besides collecting the lulu for chairing it? Or was he too busy in a presidential campaign run touting his chairmanship to get anything done?

“Flipflopflipflopflipflopflipflopflipflopflipflopflipflopflipflopflipflopflipflop.

That concludes todays report on the last 24 hour cycle of the Obama for President campaign.”

At least Joe Isuzu did’t take himself seriously. At least no one takes Joe biden seriously anymore either.

Just words. Lucky he didn’t get sued.

Sen. Biden On Being President: “I’d Rather Be At Home Making Love To My Wife While My Children Are Asleep”…

Jumpin Joe. When you look up girlyman in the dictionary, there’s Jumpin Joe.

Someone needs to ask his old Lady if she’d rather have him become President!

Biden’s answer today? Afghanistan’s being dealt with at the full committee level, hence there was no need.

Obama wants to be President and Commander-in-Chief and he isn’t even allowed to hold a subcommittee meeting. He has to go through Biden.

Joe Blow Biden is one of these blowhard egregious pompous ass-clown politico types that I can very easily visualize as being the Special Celebrity Surprise Receiver in a rather lively game of Javelin Catch.

I’m surprised he’s had the time to praise the Second Coming since he’s so busy berating the Indian community.
